Meet Lucy Jones new groomer at Lane Animal Hospital

Lucy Jones brushes out a happy Ryan after his recent visit for grooming at Lane Animal Hospital.

Lucy Jones says she enjoys combining science and art and that led to a career in pet grooming.

Jones says it’s gratifying to work with both cats and dogs, whether purebred or mixed breed. Each animal is unique and the right styling can make an animal look and feel terrific.

She recently brought her talents to Lane Animal Hospital, which offers two pet stylists and 6-day-a-week grooming services.

Some people might not realize that art and science collide – in a good way – when it comes to creating “the look” that best exemplifies each pet’s breed type or personality. Most times Jones closely follows the American Kennel Club standards for the proper “trimming” or “coat style;” or, she’s guided by what the pet’s owner might like best.

Lucy let Ryan know he’s very handsome.

Jones says she enjoys camouflaging a pet’s imperfections with just the right cut using more than 12 years of training and learned techniques.

Some pet owners might want something completely different and her more creative services include an animal-safe, plant-based “pop” of color or stencil design.

Whether you are looking for a simple bath and blow dry or something more unique, Jones enjoys the challenge of making all her clients happy and their pets leave the grooming room looking, feeling and smelling better than when they arrived.

When asked what got her interested in pet grooming, she says while in college, she was looking for a part-time job and a PetSmart opened near her home in Canton. With a love of animals – she has two chihuahua and a cat at home – she thought working at the pet store would be fun.

It was there that she discovered a passion for grooming animals and that this service meant more than just a bath and a blow dry. A manager at the store spent a lot of time showing her the best techniques and Jones began her career.

She said the more she learned, the more she liked it – because it combined her love of creativity and curiosity, and she liked watching her clients leave the store with tail’s wagging.

“I’m a life-long learner,” she says, adding that she stays current on the latest trends but attending industry trade shows and participating in grooming competitions for rescued pets.

Jones explained that during these events, groomers are assigned a rescued pet and the stylist’s task is to make the animal look and feel good.

She is available for grooming appointments on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Brittany Fanning will have appointments available Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
