The Chelsea Board of Education was introduced to new high school teacher Martha Waldo on Monday night.

Waldo has been in education for approximately 30 years, said Chelsea High School Principal Mike Kapolka.

“Most recently, she taught Family and Consumer Sciences at Carleton-Airport Community Schools and Adrian High School for the past 12 years,” he said.

She is currently teaching Family and Consumer Science courses (Foods and Nutrition, Personal Management and Child Development) at the high school.

Kapolka told the Board of Education that he’s looking forward to Waldo “moving the program forward.”

She replaces Emily Myers, who resigned from the position. There were 10 applicants for the staff spot.

“Waldo’s depth of experience with family and consumer sciences as well as her ability to engage and relate with high school students make her a great fit at Chelsea High School,” Julie Deppner, executive director of instruction, said in a memo.
