Five fair queen candidates, four from Dexter and one from Chelsea are expected to compete in this year’s Chelsea Community Fair Queen program.

On Friday, Aug. 2, the candidates met at The Depot in Chelsea for a tea and reminders about the expectations of the ladies before and during the 82nd annual Chelsea Community Fair.

Vying for the title of Chelsea Community Fair Queen are Madison Welshans, Katie Krueger, Emily Trinkle, Becky Hall and Amanda LaRoe.

Welshans, 17, of Dexter plans to show still exhibits at fair. She said she’d thought about running in the past but since this is her last year, it was time to step out of her comfort zone and give it a try.

Her talent will be cake decorating.

Welshans is the daughter of Doug and Robin Welshans and is sponsored by Mancino’s of Saline.

Katie Krueger.

Krueger, 15, of Dexter says she isn’t planning to show anything at fair and learned about the competition, which features scholarships, trophies and awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd runner-up as well as Miss Congeniality and talent, through her mother who saw a Facebook Post that the event was seeking candidates.

She, too said, being a part of the program would help her to break away from her anxieties and do something she’d never done before.

Krueger plans a modern dance routine for the talent portion of the contest.

She is the daughter of David and Holly Kreuger and is sponsored by Angie Finch, CPA.

Emily Trinkle.

For Emily Trinkle, 15, of Dexter, showing livestock at fair has been something she’s done since she was 6 years old.

This year, she will show a steer and pigs and in addition, plans to enter enough still exhibits to compete for Junior Homemaker.

Her talent will be showing her steer.

Trinkle said she’d been a princess when her older sister ran for fair queen and this was the first year she could participate so she was excited to give it a try.

She is the daughter of Chad and Carrie Trinkle and is sponsored by Doug Trinkle and Sons.

Becky Hall.

Becky Hall, 16, of Chelsea plans to enter items in the baking competition at fair.

She decided to enter as a way to start getting involved in the community.

She plans to perform a dramatic monologue as her talent.

She is the daughter of Jim and Leah Hall and is sponsored by the Chelsea Area Players.

Amanda LaRoe, 16, of Dexter, had so much fun participating last year, she decided to do it again. Plus, she says, it’s a good way to get involved in the community.

Amanda LaRoe.

She will enter enough still exhibits and also compete for the Junior Homemaker title.

LaRoe’s talent will be a presentation of how to show a miniature horse.

She is the daughter of Ed and Lisa LaRoe and her sponsor is KD Equipment Sales.

The fair queen competition takes place on Friday, Aug. 23 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Multipurpose building.
