Meet the 2022 Chelsea High School Top 10 Scholars

Ian Carter

Parents: Erin Hunt-Carter, Brent Carter

Ian played the tuba in the band and was a member of the varsity football team. He was also a member of the high school robotics team and coached for one of the middle school robotics teams. In addition, Ian independently builds miniature combat robots.

Ian’s favorite memory from Chelsea High School was his recent trip to Houston, Texas to compete in the Robotics World Championship.

He will be attending Michigan Tech University to study engineering.

Jace DeRosia

Parents: Maria and Tom DeRosia

Jace’s accomplishments include being a member of the Economics Challenge State Championship team, the Personal Finance Challenge State Champs team and a MHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award Finalist. Athletically, Jace was also selected as a 3x All-Conference selection for the golf team, 3x Conference golf champs, 2x Regional golf champs and Top 5 at golf states. He was also a 2x District soccer champ.

Jace’s favorite memory from Chelsea High School was dominating at both the Economics and Personal Finance Challenges and being a part of the State Championship team for both.

He will be attending the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan.

Gabrielle Dougherty

Parents: Trish and Dennis Dougherty

Gabrielle is a member of the National Honor Society and will be graduating with Summa Cum Laude status. In addition, she was a 3-year academic letter recipient.

Gabrielle also played AAA hockey and was a captain for 2 years and won 4 state championships, as well as 2 national championships. In 2019, Gabrielle was the Congressional App Challenge winner. She was a 4-year varsity soccer team member. Her soccer awards include: 3-year Academic All State, All District and All Conference.

Gabrielle’s favorite memory from Chelsea High School was her freshman year because this is the only year she was able to attend school with her brother.

She will be attending Syracuse University majoring in sports analytics and will play D1 hockey.

Kate Gaiser

Parents: Randall and Susan Gaiser

Kate is the National Honor Society president, the Board of Education Student Liaison, the Student Council Community Events Chairperson and Key Club president.

In addition, she is a Chelsea Robotics Team programming lead and drive coach, a LINK Crew Leader and a MYLead Representative. Kate has received the Senior Excellence Award and the DAR Good Citizen Award.

She will graduate with Summa Cum Laude status and is recognized as an AP Scholar with honors.

Athletically, Kate is an All-State Academic athlete, Varsity Cross Country and Track captain and All-Conference and All-Region Cross Country athlete.

Kate’s favorite memory from Chelsea High School was using a Bunsen burner to make s’mores in AP Chemistry.

She will be studying Engineering at Colorado School of Mines.

Forrest Gorby

Parents: Ellen Kent and Doug Gorby

Forrest is a member of the National Honor Society, an Academic Letter recipient and will graduate with Summa Cum Laude status.

He is also an AP Scholar Award recipient and was a member of the 20-21 Southeastern Conference All-Academic Team.

Forrest has been involved in Quiz Bowl (co-founder and 2nd and 3rd at States) and vice president of the Arbor Club. He was also a member of the varsity soccer team and a member of the District champion team.

Forrest’s favorite memory of Chelsea High School was winning Districts in soccer.

In the fall, he will be attending the University of Michigan, majoring in International Studies.

McKenna Major

Parent: Jamie Major

McKenna was a member of the Chelsea volleyball team, HVVC volleyball club, Key Club and an American Red Cross volunteer. She was a member of National Honor Society and will graduate with Summa Cum Laude status.

McKenna’s favorite memory from Chelsea High School was watching Chelsea win the football state championship at Ford Field with friends.

McKenna plans to attend Michigan State University to study pre-med.

Hunter Napieralski

Parents: Todd and Peggy Napieralski

Hunter was a member of the National Honor Society, a 3-year Academic Letter recipient and will graduate with Summa Cum Laude status. He has received the Presidential Scholarship from Hope College. In addition, Hunter earned his varsity tennis letter and won SEC and Regional Tennis Championships. He also received SEC All-Conference honors, All-State Tennis Award, Scholar-Athlete Award, Tennis MVP Award and Coach’s Award.

Hunter’s favorite memories from Chelsea High School were competing at the State Finals for tennis all four years.

In the fall, Hunter plans to attend Hope College to study pre-med and play men’s tennis.

Elena Nestale

Parents: David and Monica Nestale

Elena was a 4-year member of the Interact Club and served as president. She was also a Student Council representative, National Honor Society member, and SEC All Academic award recipient. She will graduate with Summa Cum Laude status.

Elena’s favorite memory at Chelsea High School was Choreography Bootcamp and the retreat for Co.C freshman and sophomore years.

Elena plans to attend the University of Michigan to study biological anthropology.

Evan Sing

Parents: Eric and Christine Sing

Evan was the founder and captain of the CHS Quiz Bowl team and was a 2-time highest individual scorer in Michigan. Evan is an AP Scholar with Distinction and received the Chelsea Excellence Award. He was also class president and president of the Arbor Club. He recently

was a member of the State Champion Econ Challenge team and National Finalist for the Personal Finance Challenge. In addition, Evan was also nominated by CHS for “WXYZ’s Brightest and Best”.

He was a member of the varsity tennis team and the SEC champion at 1 Doubles.

Evan’s favorite memory from Chelsea High School was making the state final in our first year as a Quiz Bowl team.

In the fall, Evan plans to study International Relations at Stanford University.

Michael Struk

Parents: Melissa and Alex Struk

Michael was a member of the student council as the Class president/cabinet VP. He was also a member of National Honor Society and will graduate with Summa Cum Laude status.

In addition, Michael volunteered with the Chelsea Community Ed. He participated in marching band as a snare drum player and was a member of the varsity tennis team as a doubles player.

Michael’s favorite memory from Chelsea High School was competing in the Personal Finance Challenge State Championship.

Michael will be attending the University of Michigan to study astrophysics and astronomy.
