Ballet Chelsea’s Board of Directors President John Shea, along with Artistic Director Wendi DuBois, recently announced the appointment of Michelle Quenon as the new artistic director of Ballet Chelsea.
With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance performance from Butler University and a professional career at Nevada Ballet Theatre and Ballet Theatre of Indiana, Quenon brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Ballet Chelsea.
Quenon’s passion for the choreographic and pedagogical aspects of ballet led her to transition from dancing professionally to teaching, choreographing, and directing roles at various dance studios in Indianapolis.
She has choreographed numerous full-length original ballets for both professional artists and students including Cinderella, The Nutcracker, Alice in Wonderland, and The Great Gatsby. In addition, Quenon has staged excerpts from the classical repertoire including Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and Giselle.
Quenon’s career as a dancer, guest teacher, stager, rehearsal director, and artistic collaborator has instilled in her a profound passion for the creative process and new works.
She will assume the role of artistic director from Wendi DuBois, whose 25-year commitment to teaching dance in Chelsea has been influential and sustained. DuBois has had an unforgettable impact on Ballet Chelsea. The success of Ballet Chelsea’s studio and company is attributed to her contributions.
Shea said, “Ballet Chelsea would not be where it is today without the vision, tenacity, and expertise of Wendi DuBois, and for that, we are forever indebted to her.”
With the appointment of Quenon, Ballet Chelsea is excited to continue DuBois’s legacy by building on the foundation established over the last 25 years. Quenon’s enthusiasm for the creative process and new works, coupled with her propensity for collaboration, aligns with Ballet Chelsea’s vision, mission, and values as established by DuBois.
Under Quenon’s leadership, the organization will continue its mission to build strong individuals through high-caliber training and performance excellence, while also exploring new directions and opportunities for growth.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Ballet Chelsea’s mission is to build strong individuals through high caliber training and performance excellence while giving back to the community that supports us through arts education and outreach.
