The Chelsea Board of Education was officially introduced to the newest teacher in the district — Melissa McGuire a new 3rd-grade teacher at South Meadows Elementary.
McGuire, of Ypsilanti, is a 2011 graduate of Eastern Michigan University, who was one of 240 external applicants for the position.
She completed her student teaching at North Creek Elementary in 2012, and Superintendent Andy Ingall said Monday night that he was certainly glad McGuire kept an eye out for openings in Chelsea after taking a job at Cesar Chavez Academy in Detroit.
McGuire has a degree in elementary education.
