New crime map available for Chelsea

Chelsea Police patchResidents can now access a crime map for Chelsea thanks to a partnership with Crimemapping.com.

Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth told the Chelsea City Council about the new service at its meeting on June 25, adding that the partnership began on June 17.

The chief said that only verified criminal activity is included. So, for example, if police get a call about a break-in, but it turns out that a family member forgot a key and crawled in through a window, this would not be reported.

CrimeMapping.com pulls incident data every 24 hours from the City of Chelsea police records management system, according to information about the service, and residents can subscribe to receive crime alerts and receive e-mail updates when new crimes occurs near a specific address.

“Only crimes that have completed the review and approval process are displayed, and cases under review are excluded from the daily updates.
