Next Lima Township Planning Commission meeting to include Master Plan work session

By Lisa Carolin

Patrick and Alicia Tanner, owners of Tanner Excavating, have a special use permit pending approval by the Lima Township Planning Commission at its March 23 meeting.

At the commission’s Feb. 24 meeting, members agreed to the special use permit with the addition of several requests that include putting a berm by the drain field, specific planting locations of evergreens, hours of operation from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., and a review every three years.

The Tanners’ homestead, farm, and business are all located at 375 S. Freer Road. The purpose of their application is to be able to store equipment both inside and outside at that address.

The Lima Township Planning Commission held a public hearing for the special land use application at its January meeting but postponed any decision on the request pending better clarification.

John Enos, from Carlisle/Wortman Associates, Inc., said that for the most part, the use request by the Tanners is permitted. He talked about preserving the rural character of the township and said the equipment will be pretty well screened from Freer Road.

Also at the planning commission’s Feb. 24 meeting, the commission changed the date of its work session to discuss the township’s master plan. That meeting was postponed from March 16 (which is when the Lima Township Board will meet) to the time of the commission’s regularly scheduled meeting on March 23.
