On Monday, Chelsea Kiwanis members will hear from Alison Beatty and Patsy Kemner, who will speak about Rosie the Riveter.

They belong to a group that remembers and honors the work of the women who worked in the armament factories in place of the men who were fighting in World War II. Rosie is a symbol of American feminism and women’s economic power.

Last week, the club heard from Chelsea Girl Scouts. The troops worked this year on community service, for example, collecting food for Faith in Action.

They enjoyed encampments together, learning and improving their skills, like orienting in the environment.

The older girl scouts pass on their knowledge and responsibilities to the younger ones.

Sales of Girl Scout cookies aid in the process.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m. Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
