Oct. 16-31: M-52 railroad crossing closure

railroad-signal

Get ready for about two weeks of detours at the railroad tracks at M-52. MDOT will close the railroad tracks at M-52 from Oct. 16-Oct 31 to prepare the tracks for high speed rail.

Traffic will be detoured around town using the same two detour routes as when the crossing was closed in 2009.

The detour routes are as follows:

  • Northbound M-52 traffic will be directed east down Old US-12, north on Freer Road (temp 3-way stop at Dexter Chelsea Road), west on Dexter Chelsea Road, north on McKinley, west on Dewey to M-52.
  • Southbound M-52 motorists will be directed west down North Street, south on Hayes, west on Middle, south on Wilkinson, east on Old US- 12. Because of the steep grade of the railroad crossing at Hayes Street, a message board will instruct southbound low semi -trucks and trailers to use Dewey Street and take the east side detour route.

Downtown businesses will be open and signs will be placed on M-52, north of North Street and also at the intersection of Hayes and West Middle.

Please keep in mind that this is not a City of Chelsea project, it is an MDOT project.
