Please donate to Chelsea District Library’s Holiday Hygiene Drive

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Virginia Krueger for the information in this story.)

Chelsea District Library’s (CDL) Holiday Teen Hygiene Drive is a collaborative effort to make basic hygiene needs one less thing for families to worry about.

In partnership with Faith in Action (FIA) and the Ozone House of Ann Arbor, the library is collecting hygiene items to help homeless teens and children. The drive will take place during December and donations can be dropped at the library’s main lobby during normal business hours.

The holidays are approaching and they can be a time of joy, thanksgiving, and eager anticipation. For some however, this time of year is filled with anxiety as food and shelter insecurity for families in need often increases during the holiday season.

According to the Ozone House of Ann Arbor, there are currently an estimated 1,300 children experiencing homelessness or housing instability in Washtenaw County.  Assisting with their basic needs, such as giving kids a place to take a shower, get a hot meal, or find safety for the night are all ways that the Ozone House helps homeless youth.

Faith in Action is the largest emergency service provider in western Washtenaw County and provides food, clothing, employment services, advocacy, and more for the Chelsea and Dexter school districts.

CDL is proud to partner with these great organizations to help with the pressing needs of youth in our area. While all general hygiene items are welcome, some of the more needed items are conditioner and body wash (full size or trial size), unscented lotion, petroleum jelly tubs, stick deodorant, toothbrushes, razors, toddler pull-ups, and socks—all donations should be unopened. Items will be distributed between FIA and the Ozone House.
