Please take the Chelsea Parks Survey

By Lisa Carolin

Progress should be made in the next week or two on the Pierce Park pavilion according to Chelsea City Manager John Hanifan.

He shared the news during the Chelsea Parks Commission meeting via Zoom Dec.1.

Hanifan also shared that 237 responses have been received so far on the parks survey, which is available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ChelseaParksSurvey2020 for the next couple weeks. The city would like to receive responses from people of all ages, and the results will be incorporated in the final Parks Plan Update. The survey takes just 5-10 minutes to complete.

Using Chelsea’s parks for winter activities was also discussed at the meeting. Sledding, cross country skiing, and ice skating are all possibilities.

Drawings from an engineering study for a west side connector were presented to Parks Commission members. There is a proposal to build a bridge that crosses Letts Creek from the Westchester housing development located in Sylvan Township with the potential for multiple points of access. The project could cost close to $270,000 and will be submitted for a Connecting Communities grant.

The Parks Commission meets next on Jan. 5, 2021 at 9 a.m.
