Wallet stolen, fraudulent purchases made

On Aug. 17, police were called to the 200 block of Silver Maples Drive for a report of a stolen purse and two fraudulent charges.

The victim told police that sometime between Aug. 1 and Aug. 15 someone stole her wallet from her purse and subsequently made two fraudulent purchases.

The case remains under investigation.

Embezzlement complaint
On Aug. 17 at 12:40 p.m., police were called to the 700 block of South Main Street for an embezzlement complaint.

The victim told police that they recently suspected a female employee of stealing prescription medication and either using or selling it.

The suspect was not available at the time of this report to interview.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Embezzlement discovered in business on South Main Street

On July 17 at about 11:30 a.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for an embezzlement complaint.

The victim told police he had discovered that a 20-year-old Grass Lake employee had been running fraudulent returns on her credit card.

He told police he first discovered the embezzlement on July 3 and in total, he found five fraudulent charges. The woman admitted she had made the charges and agreed to pay back the money that had been stolen.

The store did not wish to pursue criminal charges and the case was closed.

Vehicle stolen from 500 Block of North Main Street

On July 17 at about 3:50 a.m., police were called to the 500 block of North Main Street for a report of a stolen vehicle.

The victim told police she’d been working and left her keys inside her vehicle with the doors unlocked. While a co-worker was outside her place of employment, an unknown male approached him and turned over the keys to the vehicle and fled on foot.

The woman and police began a search and police found the vehicle damaged and in the municipal lot in the 100 block of North Main Street. It had apparently been occupied by an intoxicated male who was believed to have been sleeping in the vehicle.

A woman’s purse and cell phone was found in the vehicle.

Police are still searching for the man who returned the car keys and the case remains open.

33-year-old Chelsea man arrested on misdemeanor warrant

On July 15 at about 6:10 p.m. in the 20000 block of West Old US 12, police were called to assist with a 33-year-old Chelsea man who was intoxicated.

He was wanted in Jackson County for a misdemeanor warrant, was arrested and taken to Clear Lake Road and I-94 and turned him over to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

Woman arrested after throwing hot pan with grease at ex-husband
Police were called to the 500 block of North Main Street on July 12 at 3 a.m. for a domestic dispute that resulted in the arrest of a 46-year-old Chelsea woman.

The woman, who was living with her ex-husband, was arrested for assault after she threw a hot pan with grease at his back causing burns.

The woman was placed under arrest and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where she was held pending authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

66-year-old Chelsea man arrested for a DUI
Police were called to the intersection of South Main Street and Old Manchester Road on July 10 at about 5:30 p.m. for a report of a hazardous driver.

Police found a man in a car parked in the lot with two flat tires, apparently from hitting curbs.

According to the police report, the man appeared disoriented, had slurred speech and there was a strong smell of alcohol in the vehicle. He was unable to perform standard sobriety tests and was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea for a blood draw and then transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

3 cars broken into, stereos stolen in 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive
On July 10 at about 7:30 a.m., police were called to the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive for a report of guest vehicles having the side window smashed and stereos stolen.

According to the police report, three vehicles had been broken into by smashing a side window and accessing the passenger compartment of the vehicles.

The thefts were believed to have occurred sometime between July 9 at about 8:30 p.m. and July 10 at 7 a.m.

The case is closed pending further leads.

Family disturbance reported on Van Buren Street
On July 10 at about midnight, police were called to the 100 block of Van Buren Street for the report of a family disturbance that had turned physical.

The victim told police she had gotten into a verbal argument with her 20-year-old daughter and the argument turned physical, resulting in several fingernail scratches to the victim’s shoulder and neck.

The daughter had already fled the scene when police arrived and the case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Motorcycle stolen from South Main Street
On July 9 at about 11:30 a.m., police took a report of a motorcycle theft from the 1500 block of South Main Street.

The victim told police that his Kawasaki Ninja 250 motorcycle had been stolen sometime between midnight and 8 a.m. on July 9.

He told police he’d parked the bike and planned to return later that day to take it in to have work done on it but when he returned to the parking lot, the bike was gone.

The case remains open.

Jackson man arrested for drunk driving
On July 4 at about 1 a.m., Chelsea Police were called to East Old US 12 and South Freer Road for a report of a possible drunk driver.

The caller told police she was following a white Cadillac Escalade and was concerned that the driver might be drunk. Police spotted the vehicle in the 1200 block of South Main Street and pulled over the 28-year-old Jackson man. According to the police report, he was driving on a suspected license, and had no registration or insurance.

Police could smell alcohol and the driver had slurred speech according to the police report, and he was eventually arrested for being under the influence.

The suspect was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea for a blood draw and then transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police crime lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

State Police stop man wanted on outstanding Chelsea DUI warrant
On June 27 at about 9 p.m., Chelsea Police were called by Michigan State Police who had arrested a 45-year-old Pleasant Lake man wanted on an outstanding DUI warrant from the city.

The man was arrested by Michigan State Police during a routine traffic stop.

Chelsea Police transported him to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending a court hearing for failing to appear on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Man arrested by Ingham Sheriff’s Department on misdemeanor warrant
The Ingham County Sheriff’s Department contacted Chelsea Police on June 25 at about 1:45 p.m. to say they’d found a man wanted for an outstanding city warrant.

The 30-year-old Stockbridge man was wanted for a misdemeanor larceny from a building charge, according to the police report.

He was arrested and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held until his court hearing.

Larceny from auto on Commerce Park Drive
On June 21 at about 9 a.m., police were called to the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive for a report of a larceny from an auto.

The theft took place between June 20 at 8 p.m. and June 21 at 9 a.m.

The victim told police that her vehicle was parked in the parking lot and an unknown suspect broke out the passenger side window of the vehicle.

Taken was the factory installed touchscreen radio/GPS unit. The case is closed pending any new leads.

Attempted break and entry on West Middle Street

On June 17 at about 3 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of West Middle Street.

The victim told people that between June 15-16 someone unsuccessfully attempted to pry open the door to the building.

The victim “did not wish for any further investigation” and did not know of anyone who might have wanted to break in, according to the police report.

Case was closed pending further leads.

Cash register emptied in North Main Street burglary
On June 15 about 8:41 a.m., police were called to the 100 block of North Main Street for a report of a burglary.

The victim told police that the theft had occurred overnight, between the hours of 7:30 p.m. on June 14 and 5:30 a.m. on June 15.

According to the police report, an unknown suspect or suspects entered the locked building and emptied out the cash register.

Police searched the building and found no signs of forced entry into the building and when the morning employee arrived to open up the business the person noted that the door was locked.

The case remains under investigation.

Money stolen from cash register in South Main Street burglary

On June 14 at about 10:23 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Main Street, police responded to a burglar alarm and found the main door to the business had been pried open and money had been stolen from the cash register.

28-year-old Chelsea man arrested on bench warrant
On June 14 at about 7:35 p.m., police responded to the intersection of I-94 and Fletcher Road for the pickup of a 28-year-old Chelsea man who was wanted on a bench warrant.

According to the police report, Michigan State Police stopped the man for a traffic violation and a routine computer check revealed the man had a bench warrant for failing to pay a traffic ticket for disobeying a stop sign.

The suspect was transported to the Chelsea Police Department where he was able to post bond.

33-year-old Chelsea man arrested for property damage
Chelsea police were called to the 500 block of North Main Street on June 8 at about 9:45 p.m. for a property damage complaint.

The victim stated that an unknown person had smashed out the rear window of the victim’s vehicle. Surveillance footage revealed the suspect, later identified as a 33-year-old Chelsea man, walk out of the building and smash the victim’s rear window.

The case remains open pending further investigation and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Pellets fired at building on South Main Street
Police responded to the 900 block of South Main Street on June 8 at about 6 a.m. for a report of possible “rifle pellets” fired at a window about 4:45 a.m. that morning.

Police met with the witnesses and viewed surveillance footage, which may help them find the shooter.

The case remains open pending further investigation and arrest warrant submission to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Assault and battery reported on Main Street
On June 7 at about 8:10 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of South Main Street for a report of an assault and battery.

The victim told police he was in the common laundry room of the building when a verbal altercation between he and the building manager turned physical.

The victim told police he was grabbed by the head and neck area and was thrown into the door frame before being thrown to the floor.

The victim declined medical attention for his injuries telling police he would seek medical treatment on his own.

The case remains open pending further investigation and interviews with the witnesses and the suspect.

Window smashed, purse stolen from car
Police were called to the 200 block of North Freer Road on June 2 at about 4:45 p.m. for a report of a car break-in and purse theft.

According to the police report, the driver side front window was smashed with an unknown object and the victim’s purse, which was left on the front seat, was missing. The victim also cancelled all of her credit cards so they could not be used fraudulently.

The case remains open.

Child left in car while mom shops
On May 27 at about 6 p.m., Chelsea Police were called to the 1000 block of South Main Street for a report of a child left unattended in a car for an extended period of time.

Police spoke to both the caller, who reported the incident, and the mother, who had returned to the car when police arrived on the scene.

The mother told police she’d left her 4-year-old son in the vehicle for less than 8 minutes while she ran into the store, according to the police report.

An incident report will be turned over to Child Protective Services for follow-up.

The case remains open pending the Child Protective Services investigation and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Discrepancy in cash drawer leads to dispute
On May 23 at about 11:28 p.m., police were called to the 1500 block of South Main Street for a report of a dispute.

According to the police report, there was a discrepancy with how much should be in the cash drawer.

Officers diffused the situation and it is under investigation.

Cell phone stolen from Timbertown
On May 22 at about 3:05 p.m., police were called to a victim’s job for a report of a stolen cell phone.

The victim called police to report the missing phone that she had with her while at Timbertown an hour earlier. She told police that she began calling the phone to locate it but was unsuccessful because it had been turned off.

Case remains closed pending further leads.

58-year-old Chelsea man arrested for DUI
On May 18, police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street at about 2:41 p.m. for a report of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance.

Staff at the location were concerned that the subject would attempt to drive away and reported that he was visibly intoxicated according to the police report.

Upon arrival, officers met with the staff as well as the suspect, a 58-year-old Chelsea man who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and transported to Chelsea Community Hospital for blood alcohol analysis.

After the blood test, the suspect was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail to be held until his blood alcohol level went below the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors office.

Chelsea man injured while riding bike drunk
On May 17 at about 1:30 a.m., police found a 49-year-old Chelsea man on the ground near his bike at the corner of West Middle and Grant streets.

According to the police report, the male subject appeared to be highly intoxicated and had several visible injuries.

The officers requested an ambulance to respond to the 400 block of West Middle Street to evaluate the patient, and he was transported to Chelsea Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Ladder stolen from front yard
On May 11 at about 1:15 p.m., police were called to the 14000 block of East Old US-12 for a report of a stolen aluminum step ladder.

The victim said he was outside doing some work on his house, went into his house for approximately 45 minutes and when he returned outside his 6-foot aluminum step ladder was missing from the front yard.

The case was closed pending further leads.

Water softening salt stolen
On May 2 at about 8:37 a.m., police were called to the 1000 block of South Main Street for a report that bags of water softening salt were stolen.

The victim told police that someone driving a silver Chevrolet pickup pulled up to the front of the store and loaded two bags of softener salt into the back of the truck and left the scene.

The case remains under investigation.

Rock enclosure taken
On April 29 at about 12:18 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of Jackson Street for a report of a theft of a decorative rock enclosure that was on display in front of the business.

The incident was reported to have taken place sometime between April 25 and April 27.

No suspect information was available at the time of report.

Money stolen from room
Police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street on April 27 at about 10:50 a.m. for a report of money stolen from a living area.

The victim told police that some money had been stolen from his room sometime between April 26 and April 27.

The case remains open pending further investigation and the interviewing of witnesses.

Antique table stolen
Police were called to the 100 block of Jackson Street on April 10 at about 9:30 a.m. for a report of the theft of an antique wood table.

The victim told police that it was taken sometime between April 9 at 6 p.m. and April 10 at 8:30 a.m.
Items were removed from the table, which was located on the outside of the property, before the table was stolen, according to the report.

There is no further information and the case is closed pending further leads.

Chelsea man arrested for domestic assault
On March 29 at 9:40 p.m., police were called to the 40 block of Butternut Court for a report of domestic assault in progress.

Police interviewed both people and a 22-year-old Chelsea man was arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail for arraignment on the charge.

Skates on display stolen
On March 28 at 7:45 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of Coliseum Drive for a report of a larceny of skates, which were on display.

A suspect, a 73-year-old Whitmore Lake man, was found on the scene and interviewed by police.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Driving with expired registration and suspended driver’s license
On March 25 at about 11:40 a.m., police stopped a vehicle in the 500 block of Wilkinson Street for an expired registration.

After talking to the 62-year-old Chelsea driver, it was discovered that he was also driving on a suspended license.

The vehicle was impounded and the case remains open pending warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Passenger in car arrested for outstanding warrant
On March 21 at about 2 a.m., Chelsea Police witnessed a vehicle with three people in it going through a stop sign in the 900 block of South Main Street.

Police pulled over the car and found a 24-year-old Chelsea man who was a passenger in the car was wanted in Blackman Township for a “misdemeanor charge of misrepresenting of age.”

He was arrested and taken to I-94 and Mount Hope Road and handed over to Blackman Township Department of Public Safety officers.

Malicious destruction of property reported
On March 20 at about 8 p.m., police responded to a report of malicious destruction of property in the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive.

The victim said she’d parked her vehicle in the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive to attend a dinner banquet and when she returned to it she saw several scratches on “her trunk lid, passenger side doors and the rear passenger quarter panel.”

Police determined the damage was caused by a sharp metal object and took place on March 19 between 6-9:30 p.m.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Bad parking leads to arrest of driver wanted on felony warrant
On March 19 at about 7:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of South Main Street, police responded to a report of a drunk male sitting in a white pickup truck in front of a business. The vehicle was taking up two parking spots, including a handicap spot.

The man was found inside a local business and a routine computer check turned up a valid felony warrant for driving under the influence of alcohol (third offense) from Washtenaw County.

The 43-year-old Chelsea man was arrested and transported to M-52 and I-94 where a Michigan State Police Trooper transported him to the Washtenaw County Jail.

Driver gets stuck on tracks, ends up in county jail for drunk driving
On March 6 at about 8:40 a.m., police were called to the 300 block of South Main St. for a report of a vehicle stuck on the railroad tracks.

The female driver said she was unable to dislodge the vehicle and police smelled alcohol on her breath. She admitted to consuming 2-3 drinks about 2-4 hours prior to the incident.

The 56-year-old driver from Brooklyn submitted to field sobriety tests, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and was taken to Chelsea Hospital for a blood draw to determine her alcohol level. She was then transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

UPS package stolen
On March 5 at about 7:30 a.m. police were called to the 700 block of South Main Street for a report of a stolen UPS package, which had been delivered on March 4.

The victim told police that she’d received notification that the package had been delivered but it could not be located following a thorough search of the area.

There is no further information about a possible suspect, but the theft is believed to have occurred on March 4 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Speeding leads to multiple tickets
On March 4 at about 9:15 p.m., police pulled over the driver of a speeding vehicle near the intersection of East Old US-12 and South Main Street.

A license plate check revealed that the California plate on the vehicle was improper and did not belong on the vehicle. The license plate was confiscated and the vehicle was impounded.

The driver, a 24-year-old Pinckney man was issued a citation for speeding, no proof of insurance and improper vehicle registration.

Possible pot sale investigated
On Feb. 20 at about 11 p.m. police responded to a report of a possible sale of marijuana in the 900 block of South Main St.

The complainant told police he observed suspicious activity in the parking lot about 9 p.m. involving several males and confronted them.

The alleged seller denied knowledge of any drug sale.

However, the witness got a license plate number and the care remains open pending further investigation.

Fraud complaint
On Feb. 20 at about 4 p.m. in the 100 block of East Middle Street, police responded to a possible fraud complaint.

A business owner said he’d received a phone call from a woman who said she was a single mother with children who lives in Chelsea and was stranded with car problems.

The owner agreed to wire the woman $75 to help her get back to Chelsea. After wiring of funds, the business owner did some checking and began to feel he was uncomfortable with the woman’s story.
Police did local checks and determined that the female did not live anywhere near Chelsea and multiple attempts to contact her were unsuccessful.

The case remains open pending the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s determination if any type of fraud charges could be pursued.

Car damaged during dispute
On Feb. 12 at about 12:40 p.m., police responded to west Old US-12 and Old Manchester Road for a report of damage to a vehicle.

A female victim told police that the night before she and her ex-boyfriend, a 19-year-old Chelsea man, got into an argument and he punched out the front windshield and rear view mirror of her vehicle.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Basketball loss leads to assault and battery, destruction of property charges
On Feb. 10 at about 7:30 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of Washington Street for a report of a 17-year-old Chelsea man who got angry following a basketball game, struck another person as well as several other items as he left the building.

According to the police report, he reportedly struck a victim, two drinking fountains and a trash receptacle that were in the hallway.

Bystanders followed the suspect out to the parking lot area where they witnessed him striking the victim’s parked vehicle cracking the windshield.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for the charges of assault and battery as well as malicious destruction of property.

Warrant arrest made
On Feb. 7 at about 5 a.m. in the 700 block of West Middle Street, police arrested a 54-year-old Chelsea man who was wanted on a warrant for violation of his probation from the 14 A District Court. He was then transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

Domestic assault charged
Chelsea Police responded to the 500 block of North Main Street on Feb. 4 at about 11:30 p.m. for a report of domestic assault in progress.

The male victim told police that the suspect, a 32-year-old Flint woman, got mad while dinner was being prepared, threw a glass plate across the room and began assaulting the victim. She was arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

On Thursday, Feb. 5, the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office authorized the charge of domestic assault and she was later arraigned.

Check forgery and credit card fraud
On Feb. 3 at about 7:50 a.m., police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street for a report of check forgery and credit card fraud.

The victim stated that she had had several checks stolen and her signature was forged on them and her credit card was used to make unauthorized purchases.

The case remains open pending further investigation and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Laptop stolen at business
On Jan. 30 at about 5 p.m., police were called to the 1500 Block of South Main Street for a report of a stolen laptop.

A man left his laptop unattended on a table to use the restroom and came back to find it gone. Thanks to a witness, a 19-year-old Grass Lake man was identified as a possible suspect and police went to his home where he admitted to the crime.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Family problems led to warrant arrest
On Jan. 29 at about 6 p.m., police were alerted to a report of family trouble taking place in the 300 Block of East Middle Street involving a 24-year-old woman.

The victim went to the police station to report that the suspect, who lives in the home, was wanted on a warrant from Blackman Township for violation of her probation.

Police confirmed the outstanding warrant, went to the home and placed the woman under arrest. She was transported to the Clear Lake Road exit to meet with the Blackman Township Police Department.

Witness arrested, wanted on bench warrant
On Jan. 26, police were called to the 500 block of North Main Street at about 3:40 a.m., for a report of a domestic disturbance between a boyfriend and girlfriend.

The two were separated and allowed to leave the scene, but a witness to the incident was arrested when it was determined he was wanted on a bench warrant for failure to appear in court

The witness, a 44-year-old Chelsea man, was arrested and taken to Washtenaw County Jail for failure to appear on a drinking and driving case in Chelsea.

Engagement ring and wedding band lost
On Jan. 23 at about 8:10 a.m., police were called to the 600 block of Fairways Lane for a report of a lost diamond engagement ring and wedding band.

Although the woman did not know the exact location of where she’d lost the rings, she told police it happened sometime between Jan. 16-17, possibly at her job in the 700 block of South Main Street.

Police took a report should anyone turn in the rings to the police department.

Chelsea 27-year-old man subdued and forcibly restrained
On Jan. 18 in the 300 block of Congdon Street at about 4:10 a.m., police were alerted to a man who was passed out and his roommates were concerned about his condition.

When they arrived, the Chelsea Fire Department and Huron Valley Ambulance were aiding the 27-year-old Chelsea man but he became combative and officers had “to subdue and forcibly restrain” him according to the police report.

According to the police report, “It was believed that the subject was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol at the time, which altered the subject’s mood and personality.”

He was transported to Chelsea hospital for evaluation and the case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

Money stolen
On Jan. 18, police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street at 8:37 p.m. for a report of larceny from a building complaint.

The female victim told police that on Jan. 16, her nephew went to her bank and withdrew $400 in cash, and placed the bank envelope containing the money in her purse.

The victim stated that she takes her purse with her when she is in the dining hall and never leaves it unattended, but the money had disappeared.

There are no suspects and the case remains closed pending further leads.

Car crash leads to arrest for driving under the influence of drugs
On Jan. 16 at about 10 p.m., police were called to the intersection of West Old US-12 and South Main Street for a report of a car crash.

According to the police report, witnesses said the 54-year-old Chelsea driver appeared to be “drunk” and was attempting to leave the scene of the accident. A witness told police that the driver had lost control of his vehicle and struck the crosswalk control box, then backed up and struck a snow bank.

After several minutes, the suspect exited the vehicle and fell down, a witness said.

The driver told police he had taken prescription medication. He was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of drugs and transported to the Chelsea Hospital for a chemical blood draw and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police crime lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

License plate stolen from car
On Jan. 16 at 10:30 a.m., a female victim arrived at the police department to report that she’d parked in the 300 block of North Main Street at 8 a.m. the day before and someone had taken her license plate while she was at work.

According to the police report, the victim returned to her car at about 5 p.m. that night and took her car to be washed in Jackson and an employee told her that her license plate was missing.

There are no suspects and the case remains closed pending further leads.

Driver jumps curb with vehicle, strikes parked vehicle
On Jan. 8 at about 6:30 p.m., Chelsea Police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for a report of a private property crash.

Witnesses told police that the vehicle was driven over a curb and struck a parked car.

The driver, a 54-year-old Chelsea man, admitted to taking prescription pain medication and was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.

According to the police report, the driver “showed signs of intoxication, appearing unsteady on his feet, slurred speech and also had difficulty following directions.”

The man was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of drugs and was transported to the Chelsea Hospital for a chemical test blood draw.

After he was taken to the Chelsea Police Department for processing, the man was transported to his residence because of his medical condition.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police crime lab of the suspect’s blood results and warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Prescription meds taken from lunch bag
On Jan. 8 at about 3:15 a.m. police were called to the 600 block of East Industrial Drive for a report of larceny of prescription medication.

The victim told police that he’d placed a bottle of prescription pain medication inside his lunch bag and placed the lunch bag inside the refrigerator at the beginning of his shift. When he returned to get the bag, he discovered the prescription bottle was missing and told police he suspected two of his coworkers.

However, a search of both coworker’s their vehicles did not turn up the drugs.

The case remains closed pending any further leads.

Citizen’s call leads to arrest
On Jan. 2 at about 9:30 a.m., police were called about a suspicious male seen loitering in a wooded area near the 400 block of Elm Street.

The man was described as a thin, white, teen male, 6-feet tall, wearing baggy pants and a hooded flannel jacket and a black knit hat.

While conducting a search of the area, police found an unoccupied black sedan parked at a nearby intersection blocking traffic. A license plate check revealed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Blackman Township earlier in the morning, according to the police report.

Police called in the U-M Department of Public Safety K-9 unit to search the area, but the search was unsuccessful.

A few hours later, police got a call from a resident who had spotted a man who fit the description in the area of McKinley Road and Jeanette Drive in Lima Township.

Chelsea Police, in conjunction with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, apprehended and arrested the 19-year-old Jackson man for suspicion of stolen property. He was transported to the Chelsea Police Department for questioning and it was determined that he’d left a treatment facility.

The case remains open pending further investigation and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

The man was returned to the facility to continue his treatment.
