Daughter charged with assaulting her mother
On Dec. 24 at about 8:30 p.m., police were called to the 400 block of Garfield Street for a report of a possible assault in progress.

According to the police report, the victim told officers that her daughter, 53, of Jackson, got drunk and when her mother tried to talk to her about her intoxication, the suspect picked up a stapler and began hitting her mother with it.

The victim was bleeding from the lip and had a “bump” on her head, but she declined medical treatment.

The suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where she was charged with felonious assault on Dec. 26.

Telephone scam
On Dec. 17 at about 3:30 p.m., Chelsea Police responded to a report of a possible fraud.

Upon arrival in the 1000 block of South Main Street, the officer spoke to both bank staff and the potential victim. The victim said she’d been contacted by a person representing themselves as being from the New York Lottery Commission.

The victim told police that she was advised that she had won the New York State Lottery and should send $499 via Western Union for taxes on the winnings. The victim went to the Western Union office and wired the money. However, before the transfer could be completed, alert staff stopped the transaction because of its suspicious nature.

Hours later the same woman received a second call from the suspects who advised her that she needed to send $12,500.00 via a cashier’s check to Hawaii. The victim agreed and proceeded to her bank and attempted to withdraw a $12,500 cashier’s check.

When the bank staff asked about the transaction, the woman explained the situation, and the employee immediately contacted the Chelsea Police Department.

Traffic stop leads yields driver with suspended license
On Dec. 15 at about 12:57, Chelsea Police performed a traffic stop at the intersection of Old Manchester Road and Old US-12 and found the driver was operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

The 32-year-old Chelsea man was issued a ticket and released from the scene.

Retail fraud
On Dec. 2, police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for a report of retail fraud.

Apparently, the theft took place on Dec. 1 at about 9 p.m.

According to the police report, a white male in his early 40’s began placing his groceries on the conveyor belt to be scanned and asked the cashier about a price on an item. While the cashier left his register to check on the price, the suspect placed the bags with his groceries in his cart and left the store.

The case remains open pending further investigation and interviews with witnesses.

Assault in an office building on North Main
Police were called to the 100 block of North Main Street on Dec. 1 at about 5 p.m. for a report of an assault inside an office building.

Upon arrival, the officers located both the victim and the suspect inside the building.

According to the police report, there were obvious signs that a struggle and an altercation had ensued.

The victim told officers that when the suspect was told that his session was over, the suspect became enraged and began knocking over plants, throwing magazines, and banging on a glass window.

The victim stated that he became concerned that the suspect would cause more damage to the property and in an attempt to calm down the suspect, the victim placed him in a “bear hug.”

The suspect overpowered the victim and began punching him in the ribs and headbutted him in the face.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Domestic assault reported
On Nov. 22 at about 5 p.m. Chelsea Police investigated a report of domestic assault in the 100 block of West Middle Street.

According to the police report, a woman and her boyfriend, a 19-year-old Chelsea man, had an altercation and he pushed her to the ground.

Police determined there was enough probably cause to arrest the man for domestic assault and he was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office.

Assault and battery reported
Police responded to an assault and battery call on Nov. 22 at about 3:30 in the 500 block of South Main Street.

The male victim told police that he argued with a 19-year-old Chelsea man about money and that he was forcibly grabbed out of his vehicle and threatened, according to the police report.

The case remains open.

Wooden planks stolen
Sometime between Nov. 21 at 4:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. on Nov. 22, wooden planks were stolen from the 100 block of Jackson Street.

Police were called to investigate about 11 a.m. on Nov. 22, and at this time, there are no suspects.

Chelsea woman arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence
On Nov. 4, Chelsea Police were alerted to a red Toyota Camry being driven in “a hazardous manner” in the area of the 1500 block of South Main Street.

Police discovered the car was owned by a 28-year-old female resident who lived in the 700 block of West Middle Street, according to the police report.

She was found parked in her vehicle with the motor running and police found “reasonable suspicion to believe she was under the influence of alcohol.”

The woman was taken to Chelsea Hospital for a blood alcohol test and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending lab analysis and warrant authorization.

Detroit woman wanted on city warrant found in Wayne County Jail
On Oct. 30 at 8:02 p.m., Chelsea Police were notified that the Wayne County Jail was holding a 30-year-old Detroit woman who was wanted in the city on a misdemeanor warrant for driving on a suspended driver’s license.

Chelsea Police transported the suspect to the Washtenaw County Jail where she will be held pending arraignment.

Narcotics stolen
On Oct. 30 at about 7:35 a.m., Chelsea police responded to the 1200 block of South Main Street for a report of larceny of narcotics.

According to the police report, a former employee had allegedly been stealing a variety of prescription narcotic medications over several months.

The case remains open pending further investigation and warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Items stolen from purse in municipal lot
On Oct. 29 at about 7 p.m., police were called to the municipal building for a report of larceny from a purse left in a parked car.

The female victim told people that she had parked her vehicle in the municipal lot on Oct. 29 at about 5 a.m. and when she returned to it at about 7:30 a.m., she discovered that cash and several credit cards were missing from her purse.

According to the police report, there were no signs of forced entry into the vehicle and the case remains closed pending further leads.

Privacy screen covers stolen
On Oct. 8, police were called to the 200 block of South Main Street for a report of a larceny of several privacy screen covers from computer monitors.

The first one was discovered missing on July 10, the second on July 25 and the third one was taken on an unknown date.

At the time of the report, there are no suspects.

Credit card fraud reported
Police were called to the 100 block of Van Buren Street on Oct. 6 at about 4:30 p.m. for a report of credit card fraud.

The female victim told police she was advised by her financial institution that a credit account had been opened in her name on Sept. 21.

According to the police report, the financial institution refused to give her any further information until she had made a police report.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Chelsea man’s hit and run, fleeing scene, results in arrest
On Oct. 5 at 3:47 p.m., Chelsea police were called to South Main and Summit streets for a report of a hit and run.

A witness told police that the driver fled in a gray, 4-door sedan. The 51-year-old Chelsea man not only left the scene but also then hit a light pole at the corner of Jefferson and Madison streets.

Police determined that the man was under the influence of alcohol and he admitted to drinking two pints of alcohol during the day.

The man was arrested and charged with “driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of a motor crash” according to the police report, and he was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police crime lab and warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors office.

Domestic assault charges dropped
On Sept. 26, at 11 a.m., police were called to the 1100 block of South Main St. for a report of a domestic assault complaint in progress.

The suspect, a 49-year-old Chelsea woman was taken into custody for aggravated domestic assault against her son for allegedly throwing a chair at him. The suspect was transported to the Chelsea Police Department then transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

Charges against the woman were later dropped by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office and the woman was released from jail.

29-year-old Chelsea woman admits to embezzling from employer
On Sept. 24 at 10:46 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for a report of ongoing embezzlement by an employee who store management suspected of stealing money from the cash register.

Chelsea police interviewed a 29-year-old Chelsea woman, who admitted to the thefts, which she said took place over several months.

The case remains open pending warrant authorization and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office.

The suspect was released pending the authorization of the charges.

Men’s cologne stolen from a Main Street building
On Sept. 22 at about 5:04, police were called to the 900 block of South Main Street for a report of a larceny that had occurred the day before at about 11 a.m.

The victim told police he was inside his office near the restroom and said he heard what he thought was some boxes and packaging being opened. The complainant checked inside the restroom and observed 5 empty boxes of men’s cologne in the trash can.

A review of the surveillance cameras showed a white male approximately 40 years of age, 5-feet, 10-inches tall with short brown hair and a mustache wearing a green striped shirt and blue jeans.

There’s no further information available and the case remains closed pending identification of the suspect.

Domestic Assault
On Sept. 4 at about 9:30 p.m., Chelsea Police responded to the 200 block of Harrison Street for a report of a domestic assault.

The fight took place between a 17-year-old female and her mother who got into an argument when the mom would not give her daughter, who had been drinking, the car keys.

The 17-year old was charged and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

On Saturday, Sept. 6, the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s authorized a two count warrant for
assault and battery and the teen was later arraigned on the charges.

Counterfeit $50 bill
On Aug. 29, Chelsea Police were called to the 1600 block of South Main Street at about 2 p.m. for a report of a counterfeit bill.

Police were told that a black male paid for merchandise with a $50 bill, which was found to be counterfeit. When the man was confronted with this information, he paid with different legitimate money then left the scene in a white Lincoln sedan before police arrived.

The counterfeit bill will be turned over to the United States Secret Service, and there is no further information available.

Copper wire stolen
On Aug. 29 at about 10:30 a.m., police were called to the 700 block of South Main Street for a report of stolen copper wire.

The victim told police that a large amount of copper wire was taken from a locked area between the hours of 3 p.m. on Aug. 28 and 7 a.m. on Aug. 29. There were no signs of forced entry into the building.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Family argument leads to violence and arrest
On Aug. 26 at 5 p.m., a 19-year-old Chelsea female came into the Chelsea Police Department visibly upset, according to the police report.

Shortly thereafter, her 37-year-old father arrived at the police station. The female told police she’d gotten into an argument with her mother in the 100 block of Van Buren Street and it had turned physical.

Police determined that the 19-year-old female had physically assaulted her mother and her father had then assaulted his daughter.

The 19 year old was arrested and charged with domestic violence and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail then later released.

Spare tires stolen
On Aug. 25, police were called to the 1600 block of South Main Street at about 12:15 p.m. for a report of three spare tires stolen off travel trailers. The theft was believed to have occurred sometime between 5 p.m. on Aug. 22 and Aug. 25 at noon.

According to the police report, nothing else appeared to be disturbed on the property. The case is closed pending further leads.

State Police stop man wanted on Chelsea warrant

On Aug. 15 at 9:47 p.m. Chelsea Police were called to the intersection of North Territorial and US-23 by the Michigan State Police to pick up a man wanted for failing to appear on a Chelsea breaking and entering bench warrant.

Police picked up the 31-year-old Hamburg man and transported him to the Washtenaw County Jail for arraignment.

Money reported stolen from locked drawer
Police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street on Aug. 12 at 9:40 a.m. for a report of a larceny from a building.

The complainant told police that sometime between April and August, money that had been locked in a secure drawer was missing.

The case remains open pending interviews with the employees who had access to the locked
drawer.

Counterfeit $50 bill found
Chelsea Police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street on Aug. 10 at 11:47 p.m. for a report of counterfeit money.

According to the police report, an unknown person passed a counterfeit $50 bill sometime between the hours of 5-8 p.m. that night.

The bill was taken into evidence where it will be turned over to the United States Secret Service.

Minivan hits building
On Aug. 8 at about 5:19 p.m., police were called to the 400 block of North Main Street for a report of a minivan striking a building.

According to the police report, police met with the 36-year-old female driver and her minor son following the accident and the son told police that his mother had passed out or seized. Police said the Chelsea woman was confused and did not know what had happened.

The police report states that an empty bottle of prescription medication was found in the glove compartment, and that the driver had slowed reflexes and trouble comprehending instructions.

She was transported to the University Of Michigan Hospital for evaluation, and police requested a search warrant for the driver’s blood under the belief that the driver was under the influence of narcotics and operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Wine stolen from store
On Aug. 5 at 11:21 a.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for a report of retail fraud.

Police were told that a 49-year-old Chelsea woman had stolen some wine from the beer and wine aisle and left the store without paying for the merchandise.

The suspect was seen fleeing from the store in a 2009 Silver Chevrolet Malibu. When police were able to speak with her, the suspect admitted that she had taken the items from the store and that she has an ongoing problem with alcohol addiction.

The case remains open pending warrant authorization and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Duffle bag stolen
On July 29, at 8 p.m., Chelsea Police responded to the 100 block of South Street for a report of a larceny.

A man left a white canvas Duffle bag on a front lawn extension while he attempted to get a cab. The victim told police that there was a pair of binoculars, a portable CD player and several compact discs in the missing bag.

A search of the area failed to turn up the stolen property.

Bottle of alcohol stolen
Police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street on July 29 at 12:53 a.m. for a report of a stolen bottle of alcohol.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Tools stolen from building
On July 28 at 9:30 a.m. police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street for a report of stolen tools.

The victim told police that an unknown person stole several tools between 6 p.m. on July 25 and 9 a.m. on July 28 from an unsecured building.

There are currently no suspects and the case is closed pending further investigation.

$100 stolen from purse
Police were called to the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive on July 21 at about 10 a.m. for the report of a larceny.

The victim told police she’d accidentally left her purse at the establishment at around 9:30 a.m. When she returned, the purse was found but a $100 bill was missing.

The case remains closed pending further leads.

Woman wanted on city traffic warrant arrested in Livingston County
On July 11, at 10:11 p.m., Chelsea Police got a call from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department that they had a 22-year-old Brighton woman in custody who was wanted on a Chelsea warrant.

Chelsea Police picked her up, she posted bond and was released pending an arraignment on the traffic charge.

Belleville man arrested for drunk driving in Chelsea
On July 7 at 2:28 a.m., police followed up a report of a reckless driver and found a 23-year-old Belleville in a parking lot in the 1600 block of South Main Street.

After talking to him and finding probable cause that he was drunk,the man was taken to the hospital for a blood draw and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Money, jewelry stolen from Taylor Street residence
Chelsea Police responded to the 700 block of Taylor Street on July 2 at about 5:45 p.m. for a report of a larceny.

The victim told police she noticed some money was missing from an envelope as well as several pieces of jewelry, and she thought that the theft happened between June 25 and July 1.

Nothing else seemed to be disturbed in the home leading both the victim and police to believe the crime was committed by someone with regular access.

According to the police report, the victim did not wish to press charges.

Malicious destruction of property complaint escalates into assault
On July 2 at about 4 p.m., police responded to the 1100 block of S. Main Street for a malicious destruction of property complaint, which then escalated into an assault complaint.

The victim told police that he was driving east on Old US-12 near South Main Street when he saw a male bicyclist ride into traffic causing multiple vehicles to slam on their brakes.

When the victim told the 17-year-old Chelsea bicyclist to use the crosswalk, the bicyclist swore at him, according to the police report.

The driver then followed the teen and when he stopped his car, the teen kicked his car door denting it and fled into a nearby business according to the police report.

The teen then came out of the business with his father, and during an argument among the three men, the teen lunged and struck the victim several times on his arm, according to the police report, prompting the victim to kick the teen to back him off.

Police arrived on the scene, took statements about the incident from the three men and the Chelsea teen was turned over to his parents pending warrant submission and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Caught on tape
On June 23 at about 10:20 a.m., police were called to the 1100 block of South Main Street for a report of a larceny by an employee.

A 32-year-old Munith man was caught by security tape stealing an item from the store.

Police were provided a copy of the tape, which showed the man taking something and putting it in his pocket.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Identity stolen, used for car loan
Police spoke to a female victim from the 50 block of Chestnut Dr. who had her identity stolen on June 24 at 4:14 p.m.

The victim told police that she had just discovered that her identity had been stolen and her name and personal information had been used to obtain a car loan and she was listed as a co-signer.

The case remains open pending further investigation and follow up with the financial institution who issued the loan.

Motor home found leaking fluid
On June 23 at about 2 a.m., police saw a parked motor home leaking fluid that emitted a foul odor near a sewer grate in the 1600 block of Commerce Park Dr.

Attempts to locate the motor home’s owner were unsuccessful, and police notified the city’s utility department about the situation.

City employees were asked to investigate the leakage, which appeared to be going into the city’s sewer system.

Unlawful entry leads to arrest of two Whitmore Lake men
Police were called to the 100 block of Buchanan Street at 12:11 a.m. for a report of a burglary in progress.

The caller told people that she saw two people hop a fence onto the property and there was a vehicle with a trailer parked nearby on the road.

When police arrived, the truck and trailer were gone and police found the vehicle on North Main St., where the driver pulled into the parking lot in the 500 block of North Main Street and “attempted multiple evasive actions and then eventually came to a stop,” according to the police report.

The driver left the vehicle and began walking toward police while the passenger “exited the vehicle and began to walk away from the scene,” the police report states.

Police located the passenger and after questioning them both, police arrested both a 31-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, both from Whitmore Lake.

They were charged with unlawful entry and were taken to the Washtenaw County Jail pending authorization and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

Store employee fired for embezzlement
Police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street on June 18 at 3:47 p.m. for a report of embezzlement.

The store’s management caught a 17-year-old employee re-running bottles through the recycling machine that had already had the deposit collected on them and attempting to collect the deposit.

The female admitted to twice taking bottles that had already had the deposit collected on them, re-running them through the machine, and turning in the bottle receipts for cash.

According to the police report, the suspect was fired and “she was advised that she was no longer permitted to enter the property.”

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

Fraud and forgery committed
Police were called to the 1300 block of Saint James Place on June 16 at 11:49 a.m. for a report of a fraud and forgery.

A female victim told police that she’d allowed a relative to live at her house for the past few weeks.
She told police that the suspect, a 38-year-old male, had taken her vehicle on June 9 to his job to have some routine maintenance done on the vehicle and had failed to return the vehicle.

After several days, the victim told police she was unable to contact the relative and later determined that the title for the vehicle had been stolen out of her locked safe.

The victim searched the suspect’s bedroom and found several scraps of paper where the suspect appeared to be practicing forging the victim’s signature.

Chelsea Police Department contacted the Michigan Secretary of State and found that the suspect had already forged the title and transferred the vehicle into his name.

On June 19, Chelsea Police were contacted by Canton Township Police advising them that a local car dealership had purchased the vehicle, which was impounded and will be returned to the victim.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor.

Fatal crash in city
On Saturday June 14, at about 2:41 p.m., Chelsea Dispatch received a 911 call about a serious car crash at the intersection of M-52 and Old US -12.

According to the police report, a pickup truck was traveling northbound on M-52 attempting a left turn onto westbound Old US-12 when it collided with a southbound motorcycle.

Chelsea police, Chelsea Area Fire Authority and Huron Valley Ambulance responded to the scene.

Based on the severity of the injuries sustained by the motorcyclist, the Washtenaw County Sheriff Accident Investigation Team was contacted to assist in the investigation.

The seriously injured crash victim was transported by Huron Valley Ambulance to the University
of Michigan Medical Center with life threatening injuries and died.

The crash is under investigation.

Flowers stolen
On June 9 at about 3:55 p.m., police responded to the 1300 block of N. Freer Road for a larceny report.

Two hanging flower baskets were stolen sometime between May 17 and May 18.

There is no further information on a possible suspect.

Fire at Chelsea DPW building
Chelsea Police responded to a fire call at the 400 block of W. North Street on June 2 at 7:07 a.m.

Upon arrival, the officer assisted the Chelsea Area Fire Authority with traffic control until the fire was deemed under control and extinguished.

The officer performed a routine investigation and met with the Chelsea Fire Area Fire Authority investigator and a preliminary investigation indicated that the fire was accidental.

City officials told the Chelsea City Council on Monday, June 2 that a DPW vehicle was lost in the fire, which was started by metal cutting.

“CAFA did an outstanding job,” City Manager John Hanifan told the City Council.

Male bitten and struck with machete
On May 30 at 1 p.m., police were told about an aggravated assault that took place in the 14000 block of E. Old US 12.

The male victim told police that his 17-year-old girlfriend struck him with a machete and bit his arm after discovering another girl’s name written on the ceiling of his car.

According to the police report, the victim told police that his girlfriend got mad when she saw another girl’s name written on the roof, reached into the “rear passenger compartment of the vehicle, and pulled out a small machete.”

She then began slashing at the name on the ceiling of the car.

When the boyfriend “attempted to disarm” the girl, the suspect struck him with the machete and bit his arm. He dropped off the three girls at his girlfriend’s home and went to the police station to report the incident, and refused medical attention for the minor wounds.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

19-year-old Chelsea man jailed for driving while under the influence of pot
On May 30 at 1:30 a.m. police saw a car parked with its lights on in Vets Park at the corner of Sibley Road and North Main Street.

Police found a white male sitting on the driver’s side and as they approached the vehicle, they saw the driver hide something.

When police asked him to roll down the window, they smelled “a strong odor of marijuana,” according to the police report.

The 19-year-old Chelsea man was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of marijuana, was taken to Chelsea Community Hospital for a blood draw, and then transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending the blood results from the Michigan State Police crime lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

Driver side window smashed on parked car
Police were called to the 700 block of S. Main Street on May 27 at 5:35 p.m. for a report of property damage.

The victim told police the car had been parked in the lot and when the victim returned “the rear driver’s side window had been smashed with an unknown object,” according to the police report.

The case is closed pending further leads.

Identity theft reported
On May 22, a resident from the 200 block of Pierce Lake Drive told Chelsea Police that her name had been used to open up at Comcast account in a case of apparent identity theft.

She stopped by the police station to report that a Comcast account had been opened up in her name several months ago that had recently been sent to collections.

The case remains open pending further information.

Warren Police arrest man wanted on Chelsea warrant
Police were contacted on May 20 at 7:30 p.m. by Warren Police who said they had a 30-year-old Warren man in custody who was wanted on a Chelsea warrant.

The man was being held on a misdemeanor warrant for possession of marijuana.

He posted bond on the charge and was released pending his next court appearance.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Department arrests woman wanted in Chelsea
On May 19, at about 11 p.m., Chelsea police were called to Grass Lake to pick up a suspect wanted by Chelsea Police for a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license.

The 31-year-old Jackson woman was taken into custody and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where she was being held pending arraignment.

Wife assaulted by estranged husband on West Summit Street
Police were called to the 100 block of W. Summit Street on May 17 at about 6:49 p.m. by a 911 call from a female victim who told police she’d been assaulted by her estranged husband.

According to the police report, the assault had happened earlier in the day.

The victim told police that her estranged husband arrived at her home about noon and locked the door behind him and a struggle ensued.

The woman’s phone was smashed so she could not call for help and police found multiple lacerations on the victim.

In addition, she told police that she was choked until she was unconscious and when she regained consciousness, she left the home and found a safe location to call police.

The suspect, a 29-year-old Chelsea man, was located by police but refused to come out of the home and locked all of the doors in the apartment. After several minutes of conversing with the suspect through the locked door, according to the police report, contact was lost with the suspect. Officers checked the perimeter of the apartment and located an adjacent window that was left ajar.

They believed the suspect had escaped through the window and called a K-9 unit to assist in the search. Prior to arrival of the K-9 unit, police found the suspect, arrested him and he was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Domestic assault on Lincoln Street
On May 14 at 2:40 p.m., police responded to a 911 call in the 100 block of Lincoln Street for the report of a domestic assault in progress.

Police met with both the male, and 18-year-old Chelsea man, and the woman, a 17-year-old Chelsea female and took them into custody, transporting them to the Chelsea Police Department.

The female was released and the man was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail for arraignment on a charge of domestic assault.

Copper wire stolen
On May 12, police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street at about 10:29 p.m. for a report of stolen copper wire.

The victim told police he last saw the copper spools sometime on Friday, May 9 and when he returned to work on May 12, they were missing.

The case closed pending additional leads.

Chandler Street home hit by eggs

Police were called to the 500 block of Chandler Street on May 10 at about 11:37 p.m. for a report of egg tossing at a home.

Residents said they heard “some loud banging type noises coming from outside the residence, and found that their house had been hit by multiple eggs,” according to police.

One of the home owners chased the suspects, and the case remains open pending further investigation, interview of the suspects, and potential warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for criminal charges.

Suspicious package found on North Freer Road and Meadowview Drive

Police were called to the intersection of North Freer Road and Meadowview Drive on May 9 at 9:43 a.m. for a report of a suspicious package.

Police found the package and noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the locked container. The container was logged into property for safekeeping and eventual destruction.

Lawn, street signs spray painted
On May 4, police were called to the 500 block of Grant Street at 3:24 a.m. for a report of malicious destruction of property.

The victim told police that someone had spray painted the front lawn as well as street signs in front of the house.

The case remains open.

3-car accident on South Main Street
On May 2 at 1:48 p.m., police were called to the 1600 block of South Main Street for a report of a 3-car accident.

Victims told police that the male driver who apparently caused the accident had fled south on M-52.

An area-wide broadcast was dispatched for a blue 2008 model Ford F-150 driven by an about 5’7, white male. The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department located the driver and his vehicle in the Village of Manchester, and he was transported to Chelsea Hospital and consented to a blood test to determine if he was under the influence of narcotics.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Backpack and contents stolen from unlocked vehicle
On April 28 at 1:39 p.m. a victim reported that in the early morning hours on the 100 block of Orchard Street, someone stole a backpack out of his unlocked vehicle. The backpack’s contents included prescription medication, a portable gaming system, boots, CD’s, hooded sweatshirts, and a cell phone charger.

The case is closed pending further information.

Erratic driving leads to possible drug seizure
On April 24 at about 6:49 p.m., police were called to the 1500 block of S. Main Street for a report of a female driver who was possibly under the influence of narcotics.

Police meet an off duty Michigan State Police Trooper who said he observed the 23 year old Walled Lake woman driving in a hazardous manner swerving in and out of traffic.

When the trooper pulled next to the suspect, he observed her steering the vehicle with her knees and using both hands to light what appeared to him to be a pipe used for smoking marijuana, according to the police report.

A pipe, small amount of suspected marijuana, as well as a grinder sometimes used for grinding marijuana was found during a search of her vehicle.

The items were seized and will be submitted to the Michigan State Police Crime lab for analysis.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Multiple catalytic convertors stolen
On April 24 at about 10 a.m., police were called to the 1100 block of South Main Street for a report of the theft of multiple catalytic convertors.

The victim told police that he’d noticed that three separate catalytic convertors had been stolen from vehicles within the last week.

The case is closed pending further leads.

Mirrors broken off car on Lincoln Street
On April 22 at about 9 a.m., police were called to the 100 block of Lincoln Street for a report of a malicious destruction of property complaint.

The victim told police that “sometime around April 18, the suspect, an 18-year-old Chelsea man, broke the mirrors off of his car.

The case remains open pending further investigation and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Jewelry stolen from apartment
On April 21 at about 9 a.m., police were called to the 200 block of Harrison Street for a report of a jewelry theft.

The victim told people that multiple pieces of jewelry had been stolen from her apartment sometime in early September 2013, according to the police report.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Threatening texts alleged
On April 21 at about 2 p.m., police were called to the 200 block of Harrison Street for a report of “harassing text message(s) and phone call(s),” according to the police report.

The female victim told police that she’d received multiple threatening text messages from her ex-boyfriend.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Chelsea woman claims PPO violated
On April 20 at 10:30 a.m. police were called to the 400 block of West Middle Street for a report of a violation of a personal protection order (PPO).

Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the complainant who said that she was in her backyard and was approached by the suspect, a 53-year-old Chelsea man, who currently has a valid personal protection order prohibiting him from any contact.

The woman said that the suspect began to shout and to threaten her, according to the police report.

The case remains open pending further investigation and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Wedding ring stolen
On April 11 at about 2:56 p.m., police were called to the 14000 block of East Old US-12 for a report of a larceny from a locker.

The victim told police she placed all of her belongings into her locker and although it was still locked when she returned, her ring was missing, according to the police report.

The incident remains closed pending further leads.

Building broken into, nothing stolen
On April 11, at 8:18 a.m., police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street for a burglary report.

Police found damage to a rear door and window, but apparently nothing was taken. It’s not known when the damage and entry into the building occurred.

The damaged door and window were secured by the property manager, and the case was closed.

Medical assist
Police were called to the 600 block of Flanders Street on April 9 at about 3:23 p.m. for a medical assist call.

Officers located the patient and rendered aid until the Chelsea Fire Department and Huron Valley Ambulance arrived on scene.

Cell phone stolen
Police responded to a call in the 100 block of West Middle Street for the report of a larceny from a building at 11:49 p.m.

A woman told police she was inside the business and noticed that her cell phone had been stolen according to the police report.

Police spoke to other people in the establishment and apparently no one saw its being taken.

The case is closed pending further leads.

Larceny on South Main Street
On April 5 at 9:57 a.m., Chelsea police were called to the 700 block of South Main Street for a larceny report.

Police have not released any further information.

License plate stolen from vehicle
On April 4 at 3:49 p.m., police took a report about a Michigan license plate stolen from a vehicle.

The victim stated that he parked his vehicle in the parking lot at South Main and I-94 the morning of April 3 and when he returned to his vehicle the afternoon of April 4 he told police he noticed the missing plate.

There are no suspects at this time and the license plate has been reported as stolen.

Chelsea man charged with domestic assault
On April 4 at 1:23 p.m. in the 500 block of Madison Street, police responded to a domestic assault report.

Police met with both people and a 35-year-old Chelsea man was arrested and transported for the Washtenaw County Jail for arraignment.

The Washtenaw County Prosecutor authorized a one count charge of domestic assault against the suspect.

Chelsea man fails to elude police on foot following traffic stop
On April 1 at 1:27 p.m. in the 700 block of North Freer Road, police attempted to make a traffic stop and the male driver got out and fled on foot.

The officer remained with the vehicle and the passengers in the vehicle while additional police responded to the suspect’s last known location and established a perimeter, according to a police report.

University of Michigan DPS canine officer was requested and responded to the location as well as a Michigan State Police trooper who was in the area.

After a brief search, a 26-year-old Chelsea man was located in a nearby marshy area and was taken into custody.

He was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail and the Washtenaw County Prosecutor subsequently authorized a single count charge of attempted fleeing the scene.

The case is closed with warrant authorization.

Man sleeping in running car awoken, arrested
On March 29, police found a Chicago man sleeping in his car in a parking lot in the 100 block of South Main Street at about 3:49 a.m.

The officer noticed the vehicle running with its headlights on. The occupant, a 32-year-old Chicago man, had been sleeping in the vehicle and police smelled alcohol.

He was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant from Pittsfield Township Public Safety and transported to Pittsfield Township.

Money stolen from wallet in locker room
Police were called to the 500 block of Coliseum Drive on March 28 at 4:27 p.m. for a larceny complaint.

A man told police that he was playing hockey on March 24 and placed all of his belongings in the locker room, according to the police report.

When the victim returned he noticed that $300 was missing from his wallet.

The case remains open pending review of the video surveillance.

Woman turns herself into Washtenaw County jail
On March 26 at 7:16 a.m., Chelsea Police received a call from the Washtenaw County Jail that a 34-year-old Grass Lake woman turned herself in at the jail on a city warrant for failure to appear in court.

She failed to appear in court for receiving stolen property, and was immediately jailed.

Multiple catalytic converters stolen
On March 26 at 3:12 p.m., police were called to the 1600 block of South Main Street for a report that five catalytic converters had been stolen from cars in the lot sometime between March 22 at 5 p.m. and March 26 at 3 p.m.

The case is closed pending further leads.

Retail fraud
On March 25 at about 3:10 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for a report of retail fraud by a 39-year-old Chelsea woman.

The suspect was accused of attempting to steal multiple items from the store by concealing the items in her purse and on her person.

The suspect was released pending further follow-up and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Hazardous driving leads to DUI arrest
On March 23 at about midnight, police were called to the 800 block of N. Main Street for a report from a witness of a “vehicle driving in a hazardous manner,” according to the police report.

A 43-year-old Gregory woman was stopped while driving northbound on North Main Street near Sycamore and police smelled “a strong odor of intoxicants from inside of the vehicle.”

After performing sobriety tests, she was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and transported to the Chelsea Police Department lockup facility where she was held until her blood alcohol content returned to below the legal limit.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Vandalism to a motor vehicle
On March 22 at 10:58 a.m., police were called to the 1500 block of South Main Street for a report of vandalism to a motor vehicle.

There is no further information about this case at this time, according to police.

Traffic warrant cancelled
On March 21 at about 1:30 p.m., Chelsea Police received a computer notification from the Ingham County Sheriff that a 61-year-old Mason man was posting bond on a warrant out of Chelsea.

The warrant was for failing to appear for a civil infraction for a traffic offense and it was cancelled by the Chelsea PD.

Alleged domestic assault in Chelsea PD lobby
On March 20 at about 10:15 a.m. in the 300 block of South Main Street, officers responded to the lobby of the Chelsea Police Department for a report of domestic assault.

An officer met with the victim, who said that his girlfriend “chased him into the lobby and assaulted him by pulling his hair in an aggressive manner.”

The suspect, a 45-year-old Chelsea woman, had fled the scene prior to the officers arriving.

The case remains open pending further investigation and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Routine traffic stop leads to arrest
On March 9 at about 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of Dewey and Main streets, police stopped a vehicle for one working headlight and discovered what appeared to be assorted drugs.

A 19-year-old Chelsea man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

“A visual inspection of the interior of the vehicle noted a cigarillo type cigar, some plastic sandwich bags, and what appeared to be a marijuana stem lying on the passenger side front seat of the vehicle,” the police report states.

In addition, according to the report, police “noted an odor of marijuana which was emanating from inside of the vehicle.”

Police found five unidentifiable white pills in the front dash console, a glass pipe and a small glass jar which contained a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, the police report states.

The man admitted to “consuming marijuana approximately 30 minutes prior to the traffic stop.”

“All suspected narcotics and paraphernalia was taken into evidence and the narcotics will be submitted to the Michigan State Police Crime Lab for laboratory analysis,” the police report states.

The case remains open pending results from the crime lab and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Domestic assault reported
On March 2 at about 11:43 a.m., police were called to the 500 Block of W. Middle Street for a report of a domestic assault.

According to the police report, the assault happened earlier in the day, and the female victim told police that she was at home with her child with her husband, a 44-year-old Chelsea man.

She told police the two got into an argument and her husband grabbed her arm and verbally threatened her, leaving a bruise and red mark on her arm.The woman left the home with her child and went to a friend’s house.

The husband was scheduled to leave the country for a business trip and by the time police responded to the residence, he’d left, but on March 3, a warrant was signed by the judge authorizing domestic violence and the man was arrested when he returned home on March 7.

He was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail pending arraignment.

Break and entry at business
As previously reported, on March 7 at 4:04 a.m., police responded to a burglar alarm at the 1100 block of South Main Street and found a rear door pried open and a large number of items were stolen.

The case remains under active investigation and police are still asking for help if you saw anything unusual in the area.

Suspect #1 is a black male early to middle-aged, average height with a slightly larger build, last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and Timberland style work boots. Suspect #2 is an unknown male wearing something that appeared to be a bandana over his face, black gloves, white hooded sweatshirt, black or blue in color pants, Timberland style work boots, carrying a 3-4 foot yellow pry bar.

The suspects appear have used pillow cases or something similar to transport the stolen items, police reported.

Jacket possibly stolen
On Feb. 19 at about 4:30 p.m., police were called to the 14000 block of E. Old US-12 for a report of a missing jacket.

Police got a call from a male you said when he returned to his property he noticed that his jacket was missing. The victim stated that he thoroughly checked the property for his jacket and was unable to locate it.

A check of the video surveillance was unable to show a suspect with the jacket according to the police report.

Case is closed pending any further investigative leads.

Purse stolen
On Feb. 20 at about 10:30 a.m., police were called to the 14000 block of E. Old US-12 for a larceny report.

The female victim told police that around 9 a.m., she was seated in a common area of the facility using a computer.

She told police she left the area for about a half an hour and left her purse unattended near a computer.
When she returned, she told police, the purse was gone.

The case is closed pending further leads.

Arrest made of felony warrant suspect
On Feb. 16 at about 7:50 p.m., police went to the 100 block of South Main Street and arrested a 23-year-old Kalamazoo man who was wanted on charges of felony possession of a controlled substance and larceny from a motor vehicle.

Police got a call that the man was working at the city business, took him into custody and he was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The suspect will be held at the jail pending arraignment on the charges.

Vehicle damaged in municipal parking lot
On Feb. 15 at about 11:30 p.m., police responded to the 100 block of Main Street for a report of a malicious destruction of property.

The victim told police he parked his vehicle in the municipal parking lot and when he returned he noticed that both his front and rear windshield wiper arms had been bent and broken beyond repair.

The incident was believed to have occurred that night between 7:30 and 11:15 p.m.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Suspect turns himself into police
A 30-year-old Brooklyn man turned himself into Chelsea police at the police station on Feb. 10 at about 2:30 p.m.

The man was wanted on a “six-count felony warrant” out of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department according to the police report.

He was taken into custody and turned over to the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department for transport to the jail.

Domestic assault alleged
On Feb. 6 at about 11:30 a.m., police were called to the 300 block of Pierce Street for a report of domestic assault that had occurred earlier in the day.

The male victim, who is currently separated from his wife, met with her on Pierce Street. According to the police report, following an argument about money, the estranged wife, a 31-year-old Norvell woman, “became upset and reached into the vehicle and hit” the man twice in the face. She then left the area.

Officers contacted the woman and she denied her husband’s account of the incident.

The case remains open pending warrant authorization and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Wrong grade of gas leads to broken window
Police were called to the 900 block of South Main Street on Feb. 4 at about 10:30 p.m. for a report of a broken window at a gas station.

Police responded to the 900 block of South Main Street and were told a 38-year-old Gregory man became angry when the wrong grade of fuel was selected. According to the police report, the man approached the attendant and punched the window, causing it to break.

The case remains open pending interview of the suspect.

Warrant suspect found in county jail
On Jan. 30 at 5 p.m., Chelsea Police were notified that a New Mexico woman, wanted on a Chelsea warrant, was in the Washtenaw County jail.

The 28-year-old suspect “was lodged (in jail) on the bench warrant for failing to comply with her treatment program assigned to her by the court,” according to the police report.

Domestic assault arrest made
On Jan. 19 at 2:43 a.m., police responded to a 911 hang-up call on the 200 block of Wilkinson Street.

Police met with the two occupants and determined that a 48-year-old Chelsea woman had assaulted a male in the house, according to the police report.

She was arrested and transported to the Chelsea Police Department for processing and then taken to the Washtenaw County Jail pending arraignment.

Copper piping taken during B and E
On Jan. 14 at 1:20 p.m., police were called to the 700 block of Taylor Street for a report of a breaking and entering and property damage complaint.

According to the police report, “unknown suspect(s) had gained entry into the residence by unknown means and had cut several pieces of copper piping from the basement area of the house.”

There are no suspects at this time and the incident is believed to have happened sometime between Jan. 7 and Jan. 12.

Sheriff’s Office arrests male wanted by Chelsea PD
On Jan. 11 at about 6 a.m. Chelsea Police were alerted by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office that deputies had arrested a man wanted by Chelsea Police on an outstanding warrant.

The 53-year-old Orangevale, Calif. man was taken into custody on a disorderly person misdemeanor charge and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

He was held there pending his arraignment.

Crash leads to OUI arrest
On Jan. 3 at about 8:18 p.m. on the 500 block of South Main Street, police were called to the scene for a report of a car crash.

A 34-year-old Highland woman was arrested for being under the influence when police smelled alcohol in her vehicle and she later admitted to drinking a fifth of vodka at a party earlier in the evening. When questioned, she said she’d had a “a couple of beers,” but upon further questioning she later admitted to consuming the vodka, according to the police report.

The woman consented to a blood draw and was subsequently transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

Attempted B and E reported
On Jan. 3 at about 3 p.m., police were called to the 1500 block of South Main Street for a report of breaking and entering.

According to the police report, the victim told police there were “signs that forcible entry was attempted but not successful on the east office door of the building.”

The damage was believed to have occurred between Dec. 24 at 9 p.m. and Dec. 30 at 9 a.m.

There are no suspects at this time.

60-year-old Dexter man arrested for Chelsea warrant
On New Year’s Day at 9 a.m., the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department contacted Chelsea PD because they had a 60-year-old Dexter man in custody at the Dexter substation. The man was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Chelsea for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge.

He was taken into custody by Chelsea PD and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail for processing and arraignment.

Chelsea man arrested on bench warrant
On Dec. 25 at 11:39 a.m., police were called to the 1600 block of Commerce Park Dr. for a report of trouble with a customer.

Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant about an unwanted guest who arrived in the lobby while police were on the scene.

A routine computer check revealed that there was a felony bench warrant for violation of probation out on the 22-year-old Chelsea man.

He was placed under arrest and transported to the truck stop on Baker Road to meet with the Sheriff’s Department where he was turned over to the appropriate authorities without incident, according to the police report.

Routine call leads to DUI arrest
On Dec. 20 at about 11 a.m. on the 1500 block of South Main St., police were called to assist the Chelsea Area Fire Authority (CAFA) and Huron Valley Ambulance (HVA) on a medical call.

Officers were told that CAFA and HVA had been called to the scene on a report of a man slumped over the steering wheel.

Police detected a strong odor of intoxicants and the 41-year old Newport, Mich. driver was asked to perform some standard field sobriety tests and submit to a portable breath test.

He was placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, and transported to the Chelsea Hospital for a blood draw.

The case remains open pending lab analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Nintendo and game stolen
Police were called to the 100 block of Orchard Street on Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. for a larceny report.

The victim told police he returned home from work at around 7 p.m. and noticed a brown box near his front door according to the police report.

The victim told police the box had been opened and missing were a Nintendo gaming machine as well as a game.

There are no suspects at the time.

Copper ground wire stolen from business
On Dec. 5 at about 12:50 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Cleveland Street for the report of a larceny complaint.

The victim told police he arrived at the property and noticed that the fence gates were ajar and it appeared as if someone had entered the property, according to the police report.

The victim discovered that multiple pieces of copper grounding wire had been cut and taken from the site.

According to the police report, the last time the victim was at the business was on Sept. 23. In addition, since there was still some copper ground wire left, there’s a possibility that the suspects were scared off prior to stealing all of the wire.

The case is closed pending further investigative leads.

Suspicious person report leads to arrest
On Dec. 8 at 2 a.m., Chelsea people responded to the 800 block of North Main Street on a report of a suspicious person.

Police spoke to a 39-year-old Chelsea man who was walking down the street, who told them he was just out for a walk according to the police report.

A routine name check revealed that he wanted by Michigan State Police for a felony charge of filing a false police report and failing to report an accident.

The man was arrested and turned over to the State Police.

B and E reported
On Dec. 5 at 12:50 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of Cleveland St. for a report of a recent B and E from a commercial property.

There are no further details available at this time.

Felony warrant arrest made by Redford Township Police
On Dec. 3 at 1 p.m., Redford Township Police contacted local police after arresting a 36-year-old St. Clair Shores women who was wanted for identity theft by Chelsea PD.

Chelsea police picked up the suspect and transported her to the Washtenaw County Jail where she will stay until her arraignment.

Domestic assault arrest
Chelsea Police arrested a 38-year-old Chelsea woman for domestic assault on her boyfriend, a 41-year-old Chelsea man, on Nov. 19.

Police were called to the 500 block of North Main Street at 4:50 a.m. where the male victim told people that his live-in girlfriend assaulted him after they got into an argument.

She was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail for arraignment.

And, on Nov. 21, the case was submitted to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office and a charge of Domestic Assault (second offense) was authorized, according to the police report.

Retail Fraud
On Nov. 18 at 9:30 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street where a witness said she’d seen a 42-year-old Manchester woman take items from her cart and head to the ladies room with them.

When the suspect left the restroom, she had nothing in her hands.

The suspect admitted taking the items and the case remains open pending warrant authorization and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Report of suspicious vehicle leads to arrest
On Nov. 17, a 41-year-old Kansas City man was arrested in in the 1600 block of South Main Street when police checked on a report of a suspicious person at 1:46 a.m.

According to the police report, a check of the man’s name revealed that he was wanted on a civil warrant from Oakland County.

The man was arrested and transported to a spot where the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department picked him up.

Man caught stealing item
On Nov. 16 at 9:53 p.m., a 26-year-old Chelsea man was caught on tape stealing an item while working a midnight shift.

Police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street on an embezzlement complaint.

The suspect was released pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Chelsea man charged with domestic assault
On Nov. 14 at 1:33 a.m., police were called to the 500 block of North Main Street for a report of domestic assault.
According to the police report, the female victim said her boyfriend has assaulted her. The victim said she’d been hit and choked.

Police arrested a 22-year-old Chelsea man, booked him on a charge of domestic assault and transported him to the Washtenaw County Jail for arraignment.

The Washtenaw County Prosecutor authorized charges of misdemeanor domestic violence and a felony count of assault by strangulation.

Wallet left in shopping cart leads to unauthorized use
On Nov. 10 at 1:15 p.m., a woman told police that she’d mistakenly left her wallet in a cart in the 1200 block of South Main Street the day before after shopping.

According to the police report, she noticed her wallet was missing the evening of Nov. 9 and when she checked her bank account, multiple unauthorized charges were found. In addition, she told police that the wallet contained multiple gift cards, cash and forms of identification.

The case remains open as police investigate the unauthorized charges her bank account.

Unlawful street parking nets occupant with possible probation violation
On Nov. 9, Chelsea police found two men sleeping in a car at 4:30 a.m. parked on the 200 block of Pierce Street.

One man was in the passenger seat, the other was lying across the back seat and it took several attempts to wake the men, according to the police report.

Police noted “a strong odor of intoxicants on both occupants” as they got out of the vehicle and walked into their nearby residence.

One occupant, a 26-year-old Chelsea man, is on probation out of the 14 A-3 District Court in Chelsea which prohibits him from drinking.

Police plan to give this information to the man’s probation officer as a potential violation of his probation.

Domestic Disturbance
On Nov. 2 at 6:15 a.m., police were called to the 100 block of Van Buren Street for a report of a domestic disturbance in progress.

Police met with the victim who stated that she and her boyfriend, a 39-year-old Dexter man, argued and she threatened to call police.

According to the victim, he grabbed the phone out of her hand and threw it then fled the scene in his pick-up truck.

Officers canvassed the city and outlying areas, Nd located the suspect parked on South Freer Road. He was arrested on charges of both domestic violence and interfering with a telecommunications device.

The man was processed at the Chelsea Police Department and transported to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office where he was charged with one count of interfering with a telecommunications device and arraigned.

Utility trailer stolen
Police were called to the 400 block of Railroad Street for a report of a stolen utility trailer on Oct. 28 at 11:30 a.m.

According to the police report, the victim said he noticed that the trailer was missing on Oct. 20, but it had been used by friends in the past so he didn’t report it right away.

After checking with people who had borrowed it in the past and determining that none of them had it, the victim called police to report it stolen.

The trailer’s license plate has now been entered as stolen into the national database and the case has been closed, according to the police report.

Chain stolen
Police were called to the 700 block of South Main Street on Oct. 27 for a report of a stolen chain.

The about 25-feet of black chain, which served as a barricade to stop trespassers, was reported missing and is believed to have been stolen the night of Oct. 26.

Another smash and grab from a vehicle
Police were called to the 500 block of Coliseum Drive on Oct. 17 at about 5:50 p.m. for a report of a theft from a vehicle.

The male victim said he’d parked his vehicle in the parking lot at approximately 6:30 p.m. and when he returned to it at about 7:50 p.m., he noticed that his passenger front window had been smashed out, according to the police report.

Taken was his briefcase, which contained his laptop.

No other items in the vehicle were determined to be missing or disturbed, according to the report.

Another purse stolen from car in smash and grab
On Oct. 12 at 6:15 p.m., police were called to the 20000 block of W. Old US-12 for a report of a larceny from a vehicle.

A woman told police that she’d parked in the lot about 4:50 p.m. and when she returned at 6:15 p.m., she found the passenger side window smashed and her cell phone and purse were gone. Among the items stolen were money, prescription medication, a debit card and checkbook.

The woman was told to contact her bank to put a temporary hold on her account.

Later that day, the victim called the police department to say that her debit card had been used to purchase gas from a gas station in Dexter.

Surveillance footage showed a male, possibly white, driving a white mid-size sedan with one or two other occupants that pulled up to the pump to purchase gas using the stolen debit card, according to the police report.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Purse stolen from locked car
On Oct. 11 at 8:38 p.m., in the 20000 block of W. Old US-12, police were called for a report of a larceny from a motor vehicle.

A woman told police she parked her vehicle about 7:50 p.m. and when she returned at 8:40 p.m., she found the passenger side front window smashed and her purse had been taken, according to the police report.

No other items were missing from the vehicle and nothing else appeared to have been disturbed, according to the police report.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Warrant arrest made
On Oct. 5 at about 1:41 a.m. in the 1500 block of South Main St., police noticed a “suspicious vehicle driving through local parking business parking lots,” according to the police report.

A routine license plate check revealed that the vehicle’s owner, a 43-year-old Manchester man, was wanted on two warrants in Jackson County.

The man was arrested and subsequently transported to Jackson County.

Numerous items stolen from car
On Oct. 3, at about 7:50 p.m., police were called to the 14000 block of E Old US-12 on a report of a vehicle window smashed.

The female victim told police she’d parked her vehicle in the parking lot around 6:35 p.m. and when she returned to it at 7:50 p.m., the driver’s side window had been smashed out and her briefcase and purse were gone.

In addition, her laptop computer, cell phone, various forms of ID, credit cards, money, and miscellaneous personal items were taken.

The case remains open.

Man and woman arrested on suspected drug use
On Oct. 3 at about 4:22 p.m., police were called to the 1100 block of South Main St. on a report of a suspicious vehicle.

The caller reported that a man and a woman were sleeping in a white Hyundai.

Police observed “multiple signs of drug use inside of the vehicle and on the occupants,” according to the police report.

Among the things found were multiple types of prescription medications, suspected heroin, and suspected drug paraphernalia.

A 34 year old Williamston man and a 25 year old Williamston woman were placed under arrest and transported to the Chelsea Police Department for processing.

Case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

Retail Fraud
On Sept. 28 at about 12:30 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street on a report of retail fraud.

Police met with management who had detained two people – one of which was a 27-year-old Chelsea man, who was concealing a box of cold medicine in his jacket, according to the police report.

Criminal charges for retail fraud are pending and both people are prohibited from returning to the store.

Both men were then released from the scene.

Traffic stop leads to DUI
On Sept. 28 at about 4:20 a.m., police stopped a 26-year-old Chelsea man at the intersection of Pierce and Taylor streets.

The Chelsea man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the police report, and he was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Threat complaint investigated
On Sept. 26 at about 12:50 p.m., police were called to the 14000 block of east Old US-12 for a report of a threat.

Police spoke to a witness who said a 46-year-old Grass Lake man had threatened to stab another person in the head with a pen and then left the scene.

Police contacted the Grass Lake man, who stated he was just “blabbing,” and did not intend any harm, according to the police report.

Neither the witness nor the victim pressed charges.

Sunglasses, cigarettes stolen from parked car
On Sept. 25 at about 7:30 p.m., police were called to the 300 block of Pierce Street on a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.

The female victim said sometime between 4-7 p.m., an unknown suspect had reached into her vehicle via the rolled down window, unlocked her vehicle, and taken a pair of sunglasses and a pack of cigarettes, according to the police report.

Attempted fraudulent use of a checking account
On Sept. 25 at about 3:55 p.m., police were called to the 1100 block of South Main Street for a report of an attempted fraud.

According to the police report, the suspect attempted to make a withdrawal from a checking account using a fraudulent Michigan driver’s license.

The incident remains open pending further investigation, and there are no further details available at this time.

Goalie pads stolen
On Sept. 24 at about 9 a.m., police were called to the 500 block of Coliseum Drive on a report of stolen goalie pads.

The victim said that prior to leaving the scene, he noticed that his goalie pads had been stolen.

Police and management reviewed video surveillance of the location and were able to identify a 33-year-old Tecumseh man as the suspect.

Management contacted the man and he said that he had taken the pads by mistake and would bring them back, according to the police report. However, when police met with the suspect, the man admitted he’d taken the pads, which he knew did not belong to him.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Leaving scene of accident leads to arrest for DUI
On Sept. 20, police were called to the 100 block of Park Street about noon on a report of an accident.

According to the police report, a witness observed a white male in a Ford pickup back into a parked car and leave the scene.

When the driver was confronted about the accident by the witness, the 56-year-old driver took off northbound on Main Street.

A computer check revealed the address of the suspect, and police went to his home where they questioned him about the accident. He was asked to perform a standard field sobriety test and submit to a portable breath test.

According to the police report, the suspect was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident.

He was subsequently transported to the hospital for a blood analysis and released pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Retail fraud
On Sept. 9 at about 11:40 a.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for a report of retail fraud.

Police spoke with a 46-year-old Manchester woman as well as staff from the store and it was determined that the suspect had tried to steal a bottle of alcohol by saying that it had already been paid for but it hadn’t been.

No criminal charges were filed but the suspect is no longer allowed in the store.

Karaoke skills lead to intimidation incident
On Sept. 9, at about 8 p.m., police were called to the 20000 block of West Old US-12 on an intimidation complaint.

According to the police report, the victim stated that she had been intimidated by a suspect who believed that she had criticized his Karaoke skills.

The female victim was asked to step outside and it was then that she said he verbally threatened her.

The case remains open pending an attempt to locate the suspect, and whether charges will be filed.

Attempted breaking and entering
Police were called to a home at the 900 block of North Main St. on Sept. 12 at about 10:20 a.m. on a report of attempted breaking and entering.

According to the police report, the victim arrived to find a window that had been smashed.

The damage occurred sometime between 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 and 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 12.

Tossing trash at 3 a.m. leads to arrest
Police arrested a 35-year-old Chelsea man on three outstanding bench warrants after noticing him in a full-sized, white van parked in a lot at the corner of M-52 and I-94 at 3 a.m.

The incident happened on Sept. 7 while Chelsea Police were on routine patrols and noticed “what appeared to be fresh wrappers/trash outside of the driver’s window.”

The driver admitted to littering and during a routine check, police found he was wanted on three outstanding bench warrants, one from Romulus, and two from Chelsea for traffic and animal violations.

He was arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail for arraignment.

Larceny by trick
On Sept. 3, at 8:44 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Main Street, police were called to a store for a “larceny by trick complaint.”

According to the police report, the black male “approached a counter to pay for his food and during the transaction,” the man handed the cashier a $50 bill, got the change and then handed the cashier $4 and took the $50 bill back. This resulted in a loss of $46 to the store.

The suspect was described as a black male driving a Dodge Charger with tinted windows and an unknown plate number.

No further description is available.

Parked car damaged
On Aug. 28, Chelsea Police responded to the 200 block South Main Street on a report of “malicious destruction of property” complaint.

The female victim said she’d parked her vehicle around 10:55 a.m. and when she returned to it about 11:40 a.m., she found a large scratch that stretched part of the length of the driver’s side door and fender.

According to the police report, the scratch appeared to have been made with a hard rigid instrument, possibly a key.

Bike stolen
On Aug. 25 at about 2:23 a.m., police responded to a report of a stolen bike in the 100 block of West Middle Street.

A male victim told police that he’d parked his bicycle around 1 a.m., and when he returned around 2 a.m., the bike was missing.

According to the police report, a thorough check of the area was done by the man, but he did not turn up the red men’s mountain bike with new black metal peddles and a black gel seat cover.

Vehicle damaged
On Aug. 22 at about 1:30 p.m., a man arrived at the Chelsea Police Department to report that his vehicle had been damaged while parked in the 700 block of South Main Street.

The victim told police that he’d parked his car on Aug. 20 about 5 p.m. and returned to it on Aug. 21 about 8 p.m. to find a 3-foot long scratch just below the back lift gate window.

There are no suspects and the case was closed pending further leads.

Threatening text messages prompt police report
A female victim called police on Aug. 21 at 5:50 a.m. to file a report for “harassing/threatening text messages.”

According to the police report, she told police she’d received multiple threatening messages from her ex-boyfriend while at her place of employment.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Unlawful entry

On Aug. 20, at 5:38 p.m., police responded to the 40 block of Butternut Court on a report of “unlawful entry.”

A male victim told people that he thought his ex-girlfriend had gotten into his home and removed items that belonged to her, but had not gotten his permission to be there.

According to the police report, an air conditioner was removed from the window and the victim believed his ex-girlfriend climbed into the residence through the opening.

Case remains open pending warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for a charge of unlawful entry into a residence.

Dexter man arrested in Chelsea

On Aug. 18 at about 9 p.m., police responded to the 900 block of South Main Street for a report of a suspicious male subject who had been sleeping in his vehicle for the past two hours.

Police spoke with a 33-year-old Dexter man who said he was waiting for his girlfriend to get out of work at a local restaurant.

A routine computer check revealed the man was wanted on an outstanding bench warrant for a prior arrest and he’d failed to comply with a Community Corrections order.

The suspect was handcuffed and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he was held pending arraignment.

Lost wallet leads to illegal debit card use

On Aug. 12 at about 12:16 p.m., police responded to the 500 block of South Main Street for a report of an illegal use of a debit card.

The victim told police that he lost his wallet in the 20000 block of W. Old US-12 and when he checked his online account, his debit card had been used.

The case remains open.

Chelsea visitor has tire cut

On Aug. 12 at about noon, a female victim arrived at the Chelsea Police Department to report that she’d been visiting a residence in the 500 block of McKinley Street on Aug. 11 and when she went to her car the next day a passenger side tire had been cut.

According to the police report, the sidewall of the tire was cut with a sharp object. The damage was intentional and beyond repair, the police report states.

The care was closed pending additional leads.

Vehicle damaged

On Aug. 6 at 5:24 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of McKinley Street for a report of malicious destruction of property.

According to the police report, the victim told police he parked his vehicle on the side of the garage on Aug. 4 and when he returned on Aug. 6, he noticed the damage. There was a large scratch that stretched the length of the driver’s door, passenger door, and the rear quarter panel.

Warren man wanted on bench warrant found

On Aug. 5, Chelsea Police got a call from the Wayne County Jail that they had picked up a 19-year-old Warren man who was wanted on a misdemeanor bench warrant in Chelsea.

The man was wanted for failing to appear in court. He was picked up and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail for arraignment.

Traffic stop leads to DUI arrest

On Aug. 3, at about 2:21 a.m., Chelsea Police pulled over a 44-year-old Grass Lake man for “an equipment violation” in the 900 block of North Main Street.

Police suspected he was driving under the influence and performed standard field sobriety tests as well as a portable breath test, according to the police report.

The driver was found to be over the legal limit of .08 percent and was placed under arrest, a search warrant was requested for the suspect’s blood and the suspect was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office.

Hit and run

On July 30, at 1:15 p.m., police responded to the 14000 block of East Old US 12 on a report of a hit and run. Witnesses said they saw and older while male hit a vehicle three separate times and then flee out of the parking lot.

The suspect was eventually located with the assistance of the witnesses, and the case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Tire punctured

On July 29 at 11:15 a.m., police were called to the 1600 block Commerce Park Drive for a report of “malicious destruction of property.”

The victim told people she believed that a tire on her vehicle had been punctured sometime on July 29 between 6:30 a.m. and 10:35 a.m., according to the police report.

She told police she thought it might be her ex-husband because he had been staying at the same location and they had been arguing all weekend.

The case remains open.

Possible flat tire leads to arrest

On July 25 at about 3:45 a.m., Chelsea Police observed a man driving south on Main Street with what appeared to be a flat tire.

After the driver pulled into a parking lot in the 1600 block of South Main Street, the police report states, police waited for the driver to exit the car.

When this didn’t happen, they approached the scene and spoke to the 30-year-old Chelsea driver who appeared to be intoxicated, according to the police report.

The driver consented to several field sobriety tests as well as a preliminary breath test after which he was placed under arrest for “operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants.”

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant authorization review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

 

Stolen car, multiple warrants discovered
On July 19 at 6:20 a.m. Chelsea Police found a 1998 Volvo parked near the intersection of W. North Street and North Main Street, which was determined to be stolen from Lansing.

After police discovered the car, a 33-year-old Jackson female drove it onto N. Main Street where police stopped her and found she was wanted on three warrants — two from Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and one from the Albion Police Department.

The woman was arrested on a charge of possession of stolen property and was turned over to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

The case remains open.

iPad reported stolen from band room
On July 18, a male victim arrived at the Chelsea Police Department to report that his iPad had been stolen out of the band room in the 400 block of AD Mayer Driver between 12:15 – 12:30 p.m.

The victim told police that he left the iPad in the room unattended while he went to retrieve his lunch and when he returned he noticed that it was missing.

There are currently no suspects, but the case remains open.

Attempted burglary
On July 11, Chelsea Police were called to an office building on the 1300 block of South Main Street for a report of an attempted burglary.

According to the police report, a woman arrived at the office and noticed that the main entrance door “appeared to have been tampered with” in an effort to get into the building sometime between 11:55 a.m. on July 10 and 7:11 a.m. on July 11.

Upon investigation, no entry was made into the building and the case was closed pending further leads.

Found bicycle
Chelsea Police were called to the 400 block of North Main Street on July 10 at about 11:10 a.m. for a report of a bicycle that had been found near a dumpster.

So far, no one has claimed the blue, youth-model mountain bike. It’s currently at the police station if your child is missing a bike.

Retail fraud
Chelsea police are still searching for suspects who committed retail fraud at a store on the 1200 block of South Main Street on July 8 at around 8:20 p.m.

Chelsea Police received a 911 call that a retail fraud had just occurred and the suspects had fled the store after assulting one of the store’s staff.

Police found the suspect’s car in the parking lot and impounded it.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Arrest made in burglary, attempted auto theft
On July 6 at about 5:30 p.m., Chelsea Police were called to the 200 block of Wilkinson Street for a report of an attempted auto theft and burglary.

According to the police report, there were signs of a forced entry into a garage and signs that they’re been multiple attempts to start a vehicle that was parked inside.

Following a canvas of the area, several items were found including a pry bar, Smith & Wesson 38 Special revolver, and a receipt and rebate form for a newly purchased cell phone.

After finishing their investigation, police were again called to the scene where a 62-year-old Dexter man was seen attempting to climb through the garage window.

The man was arrested and processed at Chelsea PD then taken to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor and arraignment.

Theft of prescription cough medicine
On July 6 at 2:50 p.m., police were called to the 300 block of Main Street for a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.

Police were told that an employee had stolen a bottle of prescription cough medicine out of a customer’s car and attempted to hide it in his backpack.

A 22-year-old Chelsea man was questioned during which he admitted to the theft and apologized.

He was taken to the Chelsea Police Department, processed and released pending warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Assault and battery
On July 3 at about 11:30 a.m., police were called to the 200 block of Wilkinson Street for the report of an assault and battery.

Upon arrival, officers separated the two people and a 51-year-old Chelsea women was transported to the Chelsea Hospital for a medical evaluation.

The case remains open pending further interviews from the witnesses about the events that led up to the argument.

Glass door smashed during burglary
On July 1 at about 8:30 a.m., police were called to the 300 block of North Main Street for a report of a burglary, which occurred sometime in the early morning hours of July 1, according to the police report.

Money was believed to be the only item targeted in the burglary and the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of money, according to the police report.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Chevrolet Caprice stolen
On June 27 at 12:30 p.m., Chelsea Police were called to the 1500 block of South Main St. for a report of a stolen maroon Chevrolet Caprice from a parking lot.

There are no suspects or exactly when the vehicle was stolen.

The vehicle was entered into the Law Enforcement Information Network and the National Crime Information Center computer systems.

Locked store room door forced open
On June 25, Chelsea Police were called to the 100 block of South Main Street on a report of a storeroom door forced open.

The victim called police at 4:50 p.m. and said the door was forced open sometime between June 22 at 11 p.m. and June 23 at 7:30 a.m.

Nothing was taken, according to the police report.

Intimidation complaint
On June 19 at 6:20 p.m., Chelsea Police were called to the 400 block of Shiloh Dr. where they found a board with several nails sticking out of it laying across a male victim’s driveway.

The victim told police he called them when he found the board in his driveway. According to the police report, the act was considered “an intimidation complaint” and “an attempt to puncture the tires when driven across it.”

No damage was done to any vehicles at the time of the complaint and the case remains open pending further investigation.

Custody dispute
On June 20 at 6:30 a.m., police were called to the 700 block of Creekstone Lane for a custody complaint.

Officers spoke to both people involved and the issue was resolved.

Woman in custody on misdemeanor charge
On June 10 at 3 a.m., the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department told Chelsea Police that a 38-year-old Ypsilanti woman was in custody on a warrant from Chelsea.

The woman remains in the Washtenaw County Jail pending her arraignment.

Boy’s BMX-style bike stolen
On June 9 at 4:50 p.m., Chelsea Police responded to the 400 block of Garfield Street on a report of a stolen bike.

According to the police report, a boy’s 20 inch, red and black BMX-style bicycle was reported stolen from the front porch.

The bike was last seen on Friday, June 7 and was discovered missing in the morning hours of Sunday, June 9.

Man arrested on multiple warrants
On June 7 at 5 p.m., Chelsea Police were notified that a 22-year-old Chelsea man wanted on multiple warrants, was seen in the 600 block of North Main Street.

The suspect was wanted on three bench warrants from Chelsea and a felony warrant from the Sheriff’s Department.
Police arrested the man and he was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending his arraignment.

Identity theft
On June 6, police were called to the 200 block of Pierce Lake Dr. for an identity theft complaint.
The male victim told police that his identity had been stolen and that an attempt had been made to divert his social security check to another address.
The case remains open for further investigation.

Men’s mountain bike reported stolen
Chelsea police responded to the 100 block of East Middle Street for a report of a stolen bike.
The victim told police that the bicycle was taken on June 4 between the hours of 8-11 p.m. It’s described as a blue and silver men’s mountain bike.
The case is closed pending additional leads.

Argument leads to cell phone theft
On June 2 at about 3:30 a.m., police were called to the 400 block of South Main Street for a report of a larceny.
Officers met with the female victim who said that she and a 25-year-old male suspect had gotten into an argument and when she tried to call police, the man grabbed her cell phone and fled.
The victim also said she thinks the man took other items from her room including some money, according to the police report.
The case remains open.

Party leads to noise ordinance violation
On June 2 on the 400 block of South Main Street, police twice responded to complaints about a loud party.
Following the second response, police issued a ticket for a violation of the city’s noise ordinance.

Flowers stolen from cemetery
Police responded to the 100 block of Madison Street at about 5:45 p.m. on May 29 for a report of “larceny of flowers in the cemetery.”
Police were told that a hanging basket of flowers had been stolen from a relative’s grave site.
There are no suspects, according to police, who said this is an ongoing problem.
“Anyone witnessing suspicious activity is urged to contact the Chelsea Police Department,” according to the press release.

Lawn mower, power washer taken from garage
On May 20, between midnight and 8 p.m., a lawn mower and a power washer were reported stolen from a garage on the 200 block of Jefferson Street.
According to the police report, the victim said he last saw the machinery in his garage around midnight and there were no signs of forced entry.
The case is closed pending further leads.

Multiple items stolen from a garage
Also on May 20, Police responded to the 300 block of South East Street on a report of multiple tools stolen from a garage.
The incident happened sometime between 7 p.m. on May 19 and 3 p.m. on May 20.
No signs of forced entry were noticed and the case is closed pending further leads.

Counterfeit cash
On May 13 at 5 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street on a rreport of counterfeit currency.
According to the police report, a customer attempted to pay for his merchandise using a counterfeit $50.
The male who tried to pay for the items with the bill said that he had received the money from his bank in Garden City on May 8 along with five other (non-counterfeit) $50 bills.
The money was confiscated by the officers and will be turned over to the United States Secret Service.

Female driving under the influence
On May 13 at 2 p.m., police responded to the 1100 block of South Main Street on a report of a possible female driver under the influence of alcohol.
Officers found the 54-year-old female driver and performed field sobriety tests.
The suspect was taken to Chelsea Community Hospital where a blood draw was completed and the suspect was booked into the
Washtenaw County Jail.
The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant authorization by the
Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Knife found on Washington Street
On May 2 at about 8 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of Washington Street for the report of “a fixed blade knife,” which had been found laying in the road.
The item was logged into evidence as found property.

Checks forged
On May 2 at about 10 a.m., police were called to the 1000 block of South Main Street for a report of a forged check.

Although police have found the person who forged the three checks, the case remains open pending further investigation and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office.

Assault and battery reported
On April 23 at 11 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of North Main Street on a report of assault and battery.
According to the police report, the victim stated that there was a verbal altercation inside the establishment which carried outside. The man told police that he was punched in the face by the suspect, a 20-year-old Munith man.
The victim was then taken to the Chelsea Hospital for treatment.
The case remains open pending further investigations and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

Attempted breaking and entering
On April 23 at 10:30 a.m., police were called to the 700 block of South Main Street on a report of attempted breaking and entering.
Someone had unsuccessfully attempted to enter two storage buildings on the property grounds.
The case closed pending further leads on a suspect or suspects.

Bike found on South Main Street
On April 21 about 2 p.m., a resident brought a men’s dark blue bike to the Chelsea Police Station.
The bike was found on the 800 block of South Main Street on April 19 and is currently at the police station as found property.

Shoplifting leads to arrest in another town
On April 19 at about 4:30 p.m., in the 1200 block of South Main Street, police were called to a store for a complaint of retail fraud.
Employees of the store told police that they witnessed the suspect, a 43-year-old Grass Lake woman conceal multiple items under a blanket in her shopping cart, according to the police report.
Officers performed a routine warrant check on the woman and found that she was wanted in Blackman Township on a shoplifting charge.
The woman was taken into custody and turned over to Blackman Township authorities.
The case remains open pending warrant authorization on a charge of retail fraud, the police report states.

Check stolen, signature forged
On April 17 at about 4 p.m., police were called to the 500 block North Main Street on a report of check forgery that took place the day before.
The male victim told police that he allowed two people to spend the night at his residence, and the next day he reviewed his online bank account and noticed that a check had been stolen and his signature had been forged, according to the police report.
The case remains open pending follow up and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Game of dominoes leads to assault and battery
On April 15 at about midnight, police responded to the 300 block Madison Street on a report of assault and battery that took place about 11 p.m.
The male victim told police that a group of people were playing dominoes, and later in the evening a 26-year-old Chelsea man became upset and began repeatedly punching him in the face, according to the police report.
The victim said that after he was assaulted, he fled the residence, went home and called police.
The case remains open pending warrant authorization review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Pending arrest warrant served
On April 13, Chelsea Police were told of a man wanted on an arrest warrant by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the police report, a Chelsea officer drove to the Shell gas station in Stockbridge and took a 22-year-old Dexter man into custody “for failure to appear on a charge of possession of marijuana.”
He was processed at the Chelsea Police Department, posted $200 of his $500 bond and was released.

Threat complaint
On April 13 at 3 a.m. police responded to a report of a threat on the 1500 block of South Main St.
The victim stated that he worked in the 1500 block of South Main Street and had received a threatening phone call from another male subject, according to the police report.
Officers spoke with the people involved and determined that no prosecution would be sought.
Case will remain closed pending further issues.

Wedding ring reported stolen
A platinum diamond wedding ring was reported stolen from the 100 block of West Middle Street on April 3 around noon.

A woman called Chelsea Police to report that her ring that had been stolen from her desk.

She told police she last saw the ring on March 26, then noticed that it was missing from her desk drawer on April 1.

Multiple items stolen from unlocked vehicle
Chelsea Police responded to a report of a “larceny from an auto” on April 4 around 6 p.m. on the 100 block of Dewey St.

The victim reported that the items had been stolen sometime between April 3 and April 4.

The man told police that “he had left his vehicle unlocked and at some point an unknown suspect entered his vehicle and stole three packs of cigarettes, a cell phone charger, and a GPS unit,” according to the police report.

There are no suspects at this point according to police.

Two LCD televisions stolen
On March 27 at 11:50 a.m., police were called to the 700 block of Book Street for a report of a burglary from a residence.

The property manager told police that sometime between March 20 and March 27, there was a break-in and two LCD televisions were taken.

According to the police report, the scene was processed and the case remains open pending further leads.

Assault with a motor vehicle
On March 25 at 10 a.m., a 39-year-old man reportedly crashed into his wife’s car, then left the scene at Railroad Street and Taylor Lane.

According to the police report, the female victim said she was traveling down Railroad Street when she noticed her estranged husband following behind her, honking his horn, in what she believed was an attempt to get her to pull over.

The victim told police that she continued driving to avoid having contact with him. When she slowed her vehicle with the hope that he’d pass her, the man allegedly attempted to cut her off and hit her vehicle. After the crash, the suspect fled the scene.

Police interviewed the suspect, a 39-year-old Chelsea man, and the case was turned over to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

A warrant was authorized by the Prosecutor’s Office for failure to stop at a property damage accident.

Whitmore Lake woman wanted on Chelsea warrant found in jail
On March, 20 the Chelsea Police Department was notified by the Washtenaw County Jail that they had a 19-year-old female from Whitmore Lake wanted on an outstanding warrant.

The woman was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending arraignment on the charge.

Purse, glasses taken from vehicle
On March 18 at 1:30 p.m., Chelsea police were called to the 14000 block of East Old US-12 for a report of a larceny from auto.

A woman said she parked her vehicle around 12:30 p.m. and she was notified by a staff member at 1:30 pm that the window of her vehicle had been broken out.

Her purse and a pair of prescription glasses were taken from her vehicle.

There are no suspects and the case is closed pending further investigative leads.

Arrest made for suspected DUI
On March 17 at 3 a.m., Chelsea Police reported to the 1500 block of South Main Street for a report of a possible intoxicated driver.

Police watched the vehicle pulling out of a driveway and heading northbound on South Main Street.

According to the police report, the 27-year-old Chelsea driver was weaving and driving well below the posted speed limit.

Officers stopped the vehicle on West Old US-12 near Wilkinson Street where the driver refused a standard sobriety test and a portable breath test.

The man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and also refused a blood draw for a chemical test.

A search warrant was completed and signed by the on-duty magistrate for a blood draw, according to the police report, and the suspect was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Retail fraud
On March 8 at about 6 p.m., Chelsea Police responded to a report of retail fraud on the 1100 block of South Main St.

According to the police report, a store employee told police that a white male between the ages of 35-45 entered the store with an empty plastic bag and was observed putting items from the store into the bag.

The theft when headed to the checkout aisle and said he needed to return some items. When confronted about the theft, the man fled the building with the stolen items.

He was seen leaving the scene in a gold Ford Windstar van with numerous dings and dents on the exterior.

The case remains open and under investigation.

Thieves strike Sylvan Township car dealership
The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office is looking for your help to find the thieves who stole about $9,000 in tools in addition to a generator from a Sylvan Township car dealership that’s under construction in the 2000 block of McKernan.

According to the police report, construction companies working at the site “left a large pull-behind generator on site” and the thieves cut the chain, hooked the generator up to a vehicle and drove away last weekend.

The generator is described as a Sulair, green in color, spare tire mounted on tongue, fenders and a rear bumper.

There are no suspects at this time.

Car damage reported
A woman went to the Chelsea Police Department to report that her vehicle had been damaged in a parking lot in the 500 block of Coliseum Drive on Sunday night, March 2.

According to the police report, the woman returned to her vehicle and found dents in the hood and she estimated that the damage had occurred sometime between 8-10 p.m. Sunday night.

The woman told people she did not know who might have caused the damage.

Possible domestic assault charges pending
On March 1 at about 3:30 p.m. police were called to the 200 block Wilkinson St for a 911 report of “a domestic disturbance between boyfriend and girlfriend.”

Police separated a 62-year-old Jackson man and his girlfriend and the man was told to leave the residence.

The case remains open pending prosecution review for domestic assault charges.

Credit card fraud reported
Chelsea Police were called to the 300 block of Fairways Lane on Feb. 15 for a report of credit card fraud.

According to the police report, a woman reported that she’d discovered her bank debit card had been used on three separate occasions at a Toy’s R’ Us in Fayetteville, GA.

The woman stated that the transactions occurred between Feb. 14-15.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Electronic devises stolen from parked vehicle
Multiple electronic devices – including a cell phone, laptop and tablet – were reported stolen from the 14000 block of West Old US 12 on Feb. 12 about 5 p.m.

While on routine patrol, Chelsea Police Officers responded to a report of a larceny from auto complaint, according to the police report.

A woman told police she’d parked her vehicle in the lot around 5 p.m., and when she returned at about 5:50 p.m., she noticed that her passenger side front window had been broken and glass fragments were inside the vehicle.

Taken were multiple electronic devices.

Report of building break-in on West Old US-12
Chelsea Police were alerted to a break-in on the 20000 block of W. Old US 12 on Feb. 6 when a man went to the Chelsea Police Department to report that a building that he helps manage was broken into.

The man said that the side door had been pried open but nothing appeared to have been disturbed, according to the police report.

He said the incident occurred sometime between Jan. 25 and Feb.5 but he had no further information on when the incident occurred.

Misdemeanor bench warrant served by Chelsea PD
On Feb. 4 at about 11 a.m. on the 300 block of South Main Street, Chelsea Police served a misdemeanor bench warrant to a woman for failing to appear on a drug case.

The suspect, a 25-year-old Canton woman, was taken into custody by Pittsfield Township Police and subsequently transported to the Washtenaw County Jail, according to the police report.

Expired registration leads to multiple citations
On Jan. 23, at about 2 p.m. at the intersection of Grant Street and West Summit, police noticed a vehicle driving down Grant Street with a registration that had expired nine months ago.

The 65-year-old Chelsea driver was pulled over and police determined she also had a suspended license.

The woman’s vehicle was towed and impounded. She was issued a ticket for driving on a suspended license, an expired registration, and no proof of insurance.

Police then took her home.

Domestic assault reported
On Jan. 18 at about 1 a.m., police responded to a report of domestic assault on the 100 block of Grant Street.

According to the police report, the victim stated that she had gotten into an argument with her live-in boyfriend, which had turned physical. Following the incident, the victim fled the residence and later went to the Chelsea Police Department to report the assault.

Officers went to the residence where the incident occurred and the suspect, a 28-year-old Chelsea man, had left the area.

The case remains open.

Chelsea man arrested for two separate warrants
On Jan. 14, at 2 p.m., a 47-year-old Chelsea man walked into the police department to ask if he was wanted on “any active warrants,” according to a police report.

The man had a felony warrant out for his arrest for a Chelsea forgery charge as well as a misdemeanor warrant for a probation violation from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department.

He was placed under arrest, booked on the charges, then transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending arraignment.

38-year-old Grass Lake man caught trying to steal alcohol
On Jan. 13 at 1:30 p.m., police were called to the 122 block of South Main Street for a report of retail fraud.

A 38-year-old Grass Lake man confessed to attempting to conceal and take a bottle of alcohol from the store. He said he was unemployed and was “always short of money,” according to the police report.

The suspect was released pending a warrant from the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for retail fraud.

39-year-old Chelsea man charged with domestic assault
Officers were called to the 200 block of East North Street on Jan. 9 for a domestic assault complaint.

According to the police report, the female victim had argued with her husband and the assault took place.

Police placed a 39-year-old Chelsea man under arrest. He was transported to the Chelsea Police Department for processing and later transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he was charged.

He’s since been arraigned, according to the report.

Spare tire and rim stolen from vehicle
On Jan. 8 at about 2:55 p.m., police were called to the 1100 block of South Main Street on a report of larceny from a vehicle.

According to the police report, the victim said that a spare tire and rim had been stolen from his vehicle.

There are no suspects at this time.

Driver’s license stolen from wallet in unlocked vehicle
On Jan. 4, on the 200 block of West Middle St., Chelsea Police were called to a home where a male victim said he had some credit cards stolen out of his vehicle, which was parked in the 200 block of W. Middle St.

According to police reports, the victim said on Jan. 3, he left his wallet in his unlocked pickup truck and when he returned to his vehicle, he noticed that it was out in the open and his driver’s license was missing.

The case is closed pending any further leads.

Tires punctured, vehicle spray painted
On Jan. 3, police were called to the 300 block of Madison Street to investigate a report of “malicious destruction of property.”

According to the police report, the victim said that an unknown subject had punctured all four of the vehicles tires and spray-painted multiple sections of the vehicle.

The crime occurred overnight and the case is closed pending further leads.

Stolen car leads to crash and prosecution
On Christmas Eve at 11 p.m., Chelsea Police responded to a report of a “vehicle taken without permission” on the 100 Block of North Main St.

The victim stated that around 5 p.m., she looked out of her apartment and noticed that her vehicle was missing from the parking lot, according to police reports.

At about 11 p.m., the victim received a phone call from her granddaughter, a 21-year-old Chelsea woman, who stated that she had taken the vehicle and had crashed it on I-94 and had been transported to the Chelsea Community Hospital for treatment.

The victim stated that her granddaughter had left the hospital prior to receiving a medical evaluation. In addition, she did not have a valid driver’s license at the time of the crash.

“When questions by the officers on whether she would like to pursue criminal charges, the victim stated that she would cooperate with the criminal prosecution,” according to the police report.

The case remains open pending prosecution review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Break in at home under construction
Sometime between Dec. 12-Dec. 13, a home under construction on the 300 block of East Middle Street was broken into but nothing was stolen.

According to police reports, “the complainant stated that the rear door had been forced opened,” but nothing was found to be missing.

The break-in occurred either in the evening of Dec. 12 or the early morning of Dec. 13.

Warrant arrest made
On Dec. 20 at 11 p.m., Chelsea Police were called by Farmington Hills PD that they had arrested a 19-year-old Whitmore Lake woman wanted on a city warrant at Haggerty and 6 Mile roads.

The woman was placed under arrest for “failing to appear on a minor in possession of alcohol case,” according to the police report, and was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where she will be held pending a court hearing.

Credit card fraud complaint
On Dec. 18 at 7 p.m., Chelsea police were called to the 300 block of Fairways Drive for a complaint of credit card fraud.

The victim said he’d discovered three separate fraudulent transactions on his credit card.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Illegal use of debit card
On Dec. 19, a victim came into the Chelsea Police Department to report that he “had just discovered that a large-dollar purchase had been made using his debit/credit card from an online retailer,” according to a police report.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

No tail lights leads to DUI arrest for Gregory man
On Dec. 14 at 10:30 p.m., Chelsea Police saw a vehicle with its tail lights out on the 900 block of North Main Street.

The officer stopped the vehicle for the traffic violation and “could smell what he believed to be alcohol on the driver,” according to the police report.

The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle for a field sobriety tests, then was asked to submit to a portable breath test, which he refused.

The driver, a 36-year-old Gregory man, was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. He subsequently refused to consent to a blood draw and a search warrant was completed and signed by the on-call magistrate.

Following a blood draw at the Chelsea Hospital, he was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

Case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Smash and grab on Old US-12
On Dec. 14, police were called to the 14000 block of west Old US-12 for a “larceny from an automobile” complaint.

The victim stated that she had parked her vehicle around 6:30 p.m. and when she returned to it, she noticed the driver-side window had been smashed out and her purse had been taken.

At this point, there are no suspects.

Money, CD’s stolen from unlocked vehicle
A jar of change and numerous CD’s were stolen from a vehicle parked on the 100 block of Hayes Street on Dec. 11 between midnight and 5 a.m.

The victim said he’d parked his vehicle in his driveway around midnight and when he returned to it about 5 a.m., he noticed the theft.

There was no forced entry into the vehicle, according to the police report.

The vehicle had been left unlocked.

Quarters stolen from unlocked vehicle
Police were called to the 100 block of South Street on Dec. 11 by a female victim who said a roll of quarters had been stolen from her vehicle between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The victim stated that she parked her vehicle in her driveway the night before and when she got back inside to go to work the next day, she noticed that a roll of quarters was missing, according to the police report.

There was no forced entry into the vehicle and no other items appeared to be missing.

The vehicle had been left unlocked.

Dexter man in custody
A 33-year-old Dexter resident, wanted by Chelsea Police on a check forgery warrant, was arrested by Washtenaw County Sheriff’s officers on an unrelated charge on Dec. 3.

The Sheriff’s Office contacted Chelsea Police to report that they had a man in custody who was also wanted on a Chelsea felony warrant, according to police reports.

Stereo/navigation system stolen
Chelsea police were called to the 1500 block of South Main Street by a man who reported that “a stereo/navigation system that had been stolen out of a vehicle.”

According to the police report, the victim “believed that the theft occurred between Dec. 1-3.” The vehicle had been broken into and the victim said no other items were missing.

Catalytic converter cut from vehicle in Chelsea Park and Ride
On Dec. 6 at about 12:30 p.m., Chelsea Police were called to the park and ride on M-52 near I-94 for a report of a larceny of a vehicle part.

According to the police report, the victim said he’d parked his vehicle at the park and ride at about 8:30 a.m. and went to work. When he returned at about 12:30 p.m. he started his vehicle and noticed that it was “significantly louder than usual,” and it was determined that the catalytic converter had been taken from the vehicle.

While canvassing the area, police determined that a catalytic converter also had been stolen from another vehicle.

The case remains under investigation.

For sale sign taken
Police were called to the 600 block of Flanders Street on Nov. 11 at 8:52 a.m. for a complaint that a ‘for sale’ sign had been taken from the property.

According to the police report, the caller said he’d last seen the sign in his yard on Nov. 25 at around noon, and noticed the sign missing on Nov. 27 at around 5 p.m.

The caller said this was the second sign that had been taken out of his yard in the last few weeks.

There are no suspects.

Debit card used for unauthorized purchase
On Nov. 27, a man arrived at the police station to report that his debit card had been used without his permission for a large purchase.

The owner still had the card in his possession, and said he had not authorized the purchase at a Lowe’s in North Carolina.

The case remains open.

Felony warrant served
On Nov. 28, Chelsea police served a felony warrant on a 21-year-old Chelsea man in the 600 block of N. Main St.

The man was placed under arrest for “fraudulent use of a financial transaction device,” according to the police report, transported to the Chelsea Police Department and processed, then taken to the Washtenaw County Jail for arraignment.

Camera and lenses stolen from vehicle
A woman reported her camera and two lenses were stolen from her vehicle on Nov. 24 in the 500 black of Coliseum Drive.

She went to the police station at about 6:30 p.m. to report the missing items, and according to the police report, she said “she’d activated her door locks using the key fob, however, was unsure whether the locks activated.”

Police found no sign of forced entry and no sign of anything else missing.

Assault reported
On Nov. 21, on the 500 block of Wellington Street, police responded to a 911 call at 6 p.m. that involved an alleged assault.

The victim arrived for a scheduled custody exchange and during the exchange the father of the child was allegedly prevented from leaving the location with the child, according to the report.

An altercation ensued and the father of the child was placed in a headlock that apparently irritated an old neck injury and he was transported to the Chelsea Hospital.

The suspect, a 74-year-old Chelsea man, was interviewed regarding the incident, and the case remains open pending a warrant from the Washtenaw County Prosecutors office.

Money stolen from dresser drawer
On Nov. 19 at about 1 p.m., police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street for a report of “lost or stolen money.”

The victim said that he was admitted into the facility on Nov. 7, according to the police report, and sometime between then and Nov. 13, he noticed that $120 was missing from his wallet, which was in the dresser drawer of his room.

According to the police report, the victim did not wish to pursue the matter any further; he just wanted the incident documented.

Welding equipment stolen

Police responded to the 5,000 block of Sibley Road on Nov. 12 for a report of stolen welding equipment.

The caller said the equipment and other miscellaneous items were taken sometime between Nov. 8-9 when the business was open, according to the report, and police found no signs of forced entry.

Some of the missing items were recovered on Nov. 12 by police according to the report and the case remains open.

Manchester man arrested following traffic stop
While on routine patrol on Nov. 13 at 10:50 p.m., Chelsea Police stopped a 22-year-old Manchester driver at the intersection of South Main and Middle streets for a broken tail light and a dangling license plate.

In plain sight was a large, brown bag that contained what appeared to be a large number of syringes, as well as a red sharps container typically used for disposing of used hypodermic needles, according to the report.

The driver said “he had used heroin within the last 8 hours or so,” the report states.

The driver was taken into custody for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of narcotics, and transported to Chelsea Community Hospital for a blood draw to determine the amount of drugs in his system.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

Family food incident
On Nov. 15 at about 9:10 p.m., police were called to the 600 block N. Main St., for a report of a larceny from a residence.

The caller said his son, who does not live at the residence, came over and took a large quantity of food and left, according to the police report.

The father called his son and asked if he had taken the items, and according to the report, his son stated “I got you” and disconnected the phone.

The case is pending the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s review.

Moore Drive home broken into, nothing taken
On Nov. 10, sometime between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., a home on the 800 block of Moore Drive was broken into.

Chelsea Police received a call from the renter of the home who said pumpkins were smashed and the front door had been damaged, but following an investigation, it appeared that nothing was stolen.

“Considerable damage was done to both the screen door as well as the primary front door,” according to the police report, and the property owner was notified of the incident.

I-pod stolen from coat
Police are investigating a report of an I-pod, apparently stolen from the pocket of a coat that was hung on a coat wrack in a business on the 1500 block of South Main Street on Nov. 7.

The owner went to the police station to report the missing item that he said had been stolen from his coat while he was working.

He said he arrived at work around 3 p.m. and hung up his coat. Later that evening, he discovered that his I-pod was missing.

This case is under investigation.

Bounced checks complaint
Police were called to the 122 block of South Main Street on Nov. 7 at 9:30 a.m. to investigate a report of “a non-sufficient funds check complaint.”

The caller said that a 28-year-old Chelsea woman had written two separate bad checks in a 3-day period in July, 2011, and the caller had been unable to collect on the checks.

The case remains open.

Man charged with felonious domestic assault
A 25-year-old Chelsea man was arrested for felonious domestic assault on Nov. 4 following a 911 call by his girlfriend.

Police were called to the 200 block of Pierce Street at 12:25 a.m. by a woman who, according to the police report, said her live-in boyfriend had assaulted her and “manually strangled her on multiple occasions during the altercation.”

The woman was taken to Chelsea Community Hospital for a medical evaluation and later released.

The suspect is at the Washtenaw County Jail Pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

Unauthorized use of debit card
On Nov. 2, a woman went to the Chelsea Police Department to report that her “on again off again” 21-year-old boyfriend had taken her debit card without her knowledge and withdrawn $50.

According to the police report, the woman told police she had not given the boyfriend permission to use the card and she’d awoken from a nap to find both the man and her car gone.

“Shortly thereafter,” according to the police report, “The suspect returned with the vehicle and returned the card and advised her that he made a couple of transactions using her card.”

The woman told police she wanted to pursue criminal prosecution.

The case remains open pending warrant authorization and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

Fight leads to multiple charges
A three-count warrant for “assault to commit great bodily harm less than murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and aggravated domestic violence” was issued following a fight between two men on Halloween night on the 500 block of North Main Street.

Chelsea Police received a 911 call from a neighbor about a loud argument and when police arrived, officers separated the two men.

The victim stated that his intoxicated boyfriend wanted to take his car to buy more alcohol, and when the victim refused to give his boyfriend the keys to the vehicle, the suspect, a 28-year-old Chelsea man, attacked him.

According to the police report, the victim was hit, bitten multiple times and grabbed by his throat and threatened.

The victim was transported to the Chelsea Community Hospital for a medical evaluation and was later released.

The suspect was taken to Washtenaw County Jail pending arraignment on the charges.

Pistol stolen from vehicle
A man arrived at the Chelsea Police station to report that his pistol had been stolen from the console of his vehicle sometime between 9 p.m.-12:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 from the 300 block of West Middle Street.

The victim, a registered concealed pistol license holder, told police he thinks he may have left his vehicle unlocked the night of Oct. 29.

No other items were missing from the vehicle.

The stolen pistol was entered as stolen into the National Crime Information Center computer system.

Crash leads to arrest
Chelsea Police responded to a crash on the 500 block of South Main St. on Oct. 27 and wound up arresting a 30-year-old Livonia man for operating his vehicle with under the influence of alcohol.

According to police reports, it was his second offense and the driver was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The incident took place at 5:30 p.m. and the case remains open “pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime lab and a warrant from the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office,” the police report states.

Vintage locket reported stolen
On Oct. 25, police received a call from a business on the 6000 block of Sibley Road stating that “a customer come into the store and requested to see some jewelry that was behind a locked case.”

The customer looked at a number of pieces and purchased a few.

“The employee collected the pieces that were not purchased and placed the items back in the case,” the police report states. “The following day, it was determined that one of the items, an 18-karat gold vintage locket, was missing from the display case.”

Although police followed up with the suspect who bought the jewelry, there were “negative results,” according to the report.

Purse stolen
Chelsea Police responded to a report of a stolen purse on Oct. 22 in the 1300 block of South Main St.

According to the police report, last Monday at 1:20 p.m., a woman called police saying that she had left her purse in the lobby of her office building before heading to another room for a meeting. When she returned, she noticed her purse was missing. The case remains under investigation.

Membership card found in trash
On Oct. 16 at 9:10 a.m., a resident brought a membership card into the police station that she’d found in a trash can at her residence on the 100 block of Grant St.

The woman said the card did not belong to anyone who lived at the multi-family residence.

The card is at the police station until the owner can be located.

Domestic assault
Police were called to the 700 block of Flanders St. on Oct. 16 at 5:29 p.m. for a report of a domestic assault in progress.

When police arrived, they found the victim and a 20-year-old Chelsea man in the front yard of the residence.

The case remains open pending a warrant by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office on a charge of domestic violence and interfering with a 911 phone call.

Counterfeit bill turned over to police
Police were called to the 1200 block of South Main St. on Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. to investigate a report of a counterfeit bill, which had been passed at some point the previous day.

There are no suspects in the case and the bill was placed into evidence while the United States Secret Service was notified. The case is closed pending further information.

Burglary thwarted
Chelsea Police responded to the 1100 block of South Main Street on a report of a burglar alarm at a business and found a 39-year-old Grand Blanc man on the property near the building on Oct. 17 at 9 p.m.

The man was detained and arrested by police once it was determined that “entry was made into the building and items had been taken,” according to the police report.

The man was arrested and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he was held pending a warrant from the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office.

Violation of personal protection order
On Oct. 19, police were called to the 300 block of N. Main Street at 5 p.m. by a resident who reported a violation of a personal protection order. The female caller told police that she had recently served a man with a personal protection order and since that time she’d received multiple text messages from a 64-year-old Chelsea man.

In addition, the woman told police that she believes she has seen the man drive past the property on numerous occasions, according to the police report, and police documented the multiple threatening text messages.

The man was not at the residence when police arrived, and the case remains open pending further investigation.

Pot seized
Two Chelsea men, ages 17 and 18, were transported to a friend’s home after they were found sleeping in a car in a parking lot at the corner of Sibley and North Main Street and in possession of pot.

On Oct. 10 at 11:30 a.m., the men told police they’d “both been kicked out of their homes and had no place to go,” according to the police report.

“A strong odor of marijuana could be smelled coming from inside the vehicle,” the report states, and the men admitted that there was pot in the glove compartment. Police confiscated the drugs and they were logged into evidence.

The men were taken to a friend’s residence where “they will be allowed to stay for a while,” according to the report.

The case remains open pending lab analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and a warrant from the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

I-pod taken from vehicle
On Oct. 5, between 3:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. on the 700 block of North Freer Road, an I-pod was taken from a car parked in the parking lot.

The victim went to the Chelsea Police station on Oct.7 to report the theft.

She told police that she parked her vehicle for work and when she returned to it at about 12:30 a.m., she noticed that her I-pod Touch was missing from the console of her vehicle, according to the police report.

There were no signs of forced entry and there are no leads. The case is closed pending further information.

Domestic assault reported
Police responded to a 911 call on Oct. 6 at 12:18 a.m. on the 1400 block of Carston Lane where they arrested a 35-year-old Chelsea woman on a charge of domestic violence.

She was taken to the Chelsea Police Department for processing and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail pending arraignment.

Both people involved in the assault refused medical attention.

Recycling larceny
On Oct. 5, officers responded to a business on the 1200 block of South Main St. for a report of larceny from a building.

According to the police report, officers met with a witness as well as a store official, and both stated “that employees were emptying out the bottle and can machines and when (they) were not looking, the suspects took multiple bottles out of the bins and re-deposited them into the machine.”

The suspects did this repeatedly, according to the police report, and in addition, removed a large bag of returnable bottles and placed them just outside the main entrance.

One suspect did some shopping then attempted to cash the receipts for the returnable bottles, according to the police report.

The suspects, a 21-year-old Chelsea woman and a 24-year-old Chelsea man, were arrested and taken to the police building.

They were interviewed and released pending authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office, according to the police report and prohibited from entering the store for one year.

Officer assaulted following DUI arrest
On Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. on the 500 Block of N. Main St., police stopped a 47-year-old Chelsea man, who they observed driving erratically.

Officers performed sobriety tests and arrested the man for suspicion of “being under the influence of alcohol,” according to the police report, and in addition, he was driving on a suspended license.

“The suspect was deemed unfit for lodging at the Washtenaw County Jail due to his high blood alcohol level and was transported to the Chelsea Hospital for medical treatment,” the report states.

At 12:15 a.m., police were notified by hospital officials that the suspect was “causing problems at the hospital,” and police assistance was needed.

While attempting to calm the man down, according to the police report, an altercation ensued and an officer was assaulted by the suspect.

“The suspect was restrained so that medical attention could be completed,” the report states, and after review by medical personnel, the suspect was released from the hospital and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case, which includes the assault on a police officer, remains open pending review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Retail fraud
On Oct. 4, at about 12:20 p.m., a 22-year-old Manchester man was arrested for retail fraud in the 1200 block of South Main St.

The case remains open pending review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Whitmore Lake woman arrested on outstanding warrant
On Sept. 29, the Chelsea Police Department picked up a 19-year-old female from Whitmore Lake who was wanted on a warrant.

The arrest took place following a call from the South Lyon Police Department that they had the woman in custody.

She was transported to the Washtenaw County jail for arraignment.

Multiple items taken in break-in of business
Chelsea Police were called to the 300 block of North Main Street on Sept. 29 for a reported break-in.

The incident took place overnight and was noticed when the store manager arrived at 7 a.m. to open the store.

She said she closed up the store the night before about 10 p.m. on Sept. 28 and when she returned the next morning, although there was no forced entry, multiple items were missing, according to the police report.

The incident remains open and is under investigation.

Wallet turned into police department
On Sept. 25, about 1:30 p.m., a Good Samaritan turned in a wallet he found on the 1100 Block of South Main St.

According to the police report, the wallet was found near a parking lot in the area containing money and an ID.

Police were able to return the wallet to its owner.

Noise complaint
Chelsea police were dispatched to the 200 block of Wilkinson Street on Sept. 23 at 9:30 p.m. for a noise complaint.

A caller told police that there were loud noises coming from a nearby residence and police contacted the people involved who “stated that they would attempt to be quieter,” according to the police report.

No violations or further action were taken.

Woman’s mountain bike recovered
An aqua green woman’s mountain bike was recovered in a wooded area near the 200 block of W. North Street near Hayes Street on Sept. 20 about 8 a.m.

Chelsea Police were notified of the bike’s recovery and an officer took the bike back to the police building.

It’s been logged into evidence as found property if anyone is missing the bike.

Speeding stop leads to arrest for outstanding warrant
When Chelsea Police stopped a 38-year-old Chelsea resident for a speeding violation on Sept. 15 at 8:30 p.m., it was determined that the driver was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the Michigan State Police Brighton post.

According to the police report, the driver was able to post the $235 bond and was released from custody.

Rear door of building damaged
On Sept. 15, police were flagged down to report damage to the rear door of a building in the 100 block of North Main Street, which occurred between Sept. 7-13.

Police were alerted to the attempted break-in by the owner who said the suspect did not get inside, but that there was damage to the door jam.

The door had already been repaired at the time of the report, and there is no further information available about possible suspects.

Gas siphoned from vehicle
On Sept. 14, between 6-11:15 p.m. in the 700 block of North Freer Road, about 1/8 of a tank of gas was allegedly taken from a vehicle, which was parked in the lot at that location.

The female driver had parked her car about 6 p.m. and when she returned later that night, she noticed that “the gas lid (on her vehicle) was partially ajar,” according to the police report.

There are no confirmed suspects at this time.

Drunken driving arrest
On Sept. 12 at 8:50 p.m. at the corner of West Old US-12 and South Main Street, a 65-year-old Chelsea man was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The arrest followed a call from a witness who reported someone “driving in a reckless manner,” according to the police report. The dispatcher stayed on the phone with the caller until officers could locate the vehicle.

After questioning the driver and performing standard field sobriety tests, the driver, a 65-year-old Chelsea man, was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and prosecutor’s review.

Grave site robbery reported
On Sept. 12, a resident arrived at the new police station to report that multiple items had been stolen from a grave at the 1000 block of North Freer Road.

It’s unknown when the thefts took place and there is no further information.

However, police will continue to patrol the area.

Possible pot pipe found
On Sept. 11, at 10:45 a.m., police received a call about possible drug paraphernalia found on the 500 block of West Middle Street.

“Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the complainant who turned the property over to the officer,” according to the police report. “The officer confirmed that it was, in fact, a homemade pipe, potentially used for smoking marijuana.”

The pipe was logged into evidence and subsequently destroyed.

Traffic stop leads to arrest
While on patrol on Sept. 8, Chelsea Police stopped a 32-year-old Grass Lake woman for a traffic infraction on the 1100 block of South Main St.

It was determined that she was under the influence of narcotics during the 5:45 a.m. traffic stop, which led to her being taken into custody.

Police also found that she had multiple stolen items from a nearby store in her possession.

The case remains open pending authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office and laboratory analysis from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Family trouble
On Sept. 6, Police responded to the 600 block of North Main St. to a report of family trouble and a 911 hang-up at 10 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers located the people involved and determined that no physical violence had occurred; that the argument was verbal in nature.

According to the police report, the two people were separated for the night in an attempt to resolve the matter.

Intoxicated driver
A 63-year-old Detroit man was placed under arrest and transported to the Washtenaw County jail following a report of an intoxicated driver on Sept. 6

Police responded to the 1600 block of South Main St. at 5:45 p.m. and determined that driver was, indeed, under the influence of alcohol.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office.

Bikes swiped
On Sept. 1, between 12:30 and 6 p.m., two bikes were taken from an apartment on the 200 block of Park St.

The caller reported that he had placed his green mountain bike along with his son’s red-and-black BMX style bike in the hallway near his apartment and when he returned, both bikes were gone.

The case is closed pending further leads.

Retail fraud
On Sept. 3 at 7:45 p.m., police responded to the 1200 block of South Main St. on a complaint of retail fraud.

When the police arrived, it was determined that a 48-year-old Chelsea woman was being detained in the store for stealing items.

“The investigation was completed and the suspect was released pending authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office,” according to the police report.

Bricks thrown
On Aug. 29, during an early morning patrol of the Fairways subdivision, Chelsea Police saw a large number of bricks littering the road on the 600 Block of Fairways Lane.

Although no suspects were present during the 3 a.m. stop, two vehicles were found damaged – the result of thrown bricks, according to the police report.

The case is closed pending further leads.

Missing bike
At 6 p.m., on Aug. 27, police responded to a complaint of a missing bike on the 600 Block of Grant Street.

According to the police report, the female caller said the bicycle was taken from the carport area of her residence between 2-5 p.m. that day.

The caller said she did not know of anyone who may have taken the bicycle, according to the police report.

The girl’s bike is size 16 inches and aqua green.

The case is closed pending further leads so if anyone sees the bike, please call the police station.

Potential trespass incident
Police were called to the 200 Block of Washington Street on Aug. 27 at 12:20 p.m. for a report of “a possible trespassing complaint.”

According to the police report, dispatch received a call from a neighbor who stated that the homeowner asked neighbors to call the police if a specific vehicle was seen at the residence.

Apparently, the homeowner had fired an employee and feared the employee might go to his home “in retaliation for being fired,” according to the police report.

Upon arrival, officers confronted the alleged trespasser coming out of the home and after contacting the business owner, they confirmed that a 35-year-old Ann Arbor man was, indeed, trespassing on the property.

The man was handcuffed and detained until the homeowner arrived. He declined to press criminal charges and the man was released from custody.

Items stolen from purse dropped beneath bleachers
Although found, a purse that was dropped in the bleachers at the fair on Aug. 23 was returned to its owner missing keys and money.

Chelsea Police were alerted to the dropped purse, which had fallen between the bleachers, at 10 p.m. in the 20000 Block of W. Old US-12.

The purse was found by a female described to be in her mid-20’s with dark brown hair, who was about 5-feet, 4-inches tall. According to the police report, “it was determined that multiple items, including keys and money had been taken” from the purse.

Car crash leads to citation for multiple violations
Police responded to report of a car crash on Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. at the corner of South Main Street and Old US-12 and a routine computer check led to multiple violations.

According to the police report, a 65-year-old Chelsea woman was operating her vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, no current registration or insurance.

She was ticketed for the violations and the vehicle was towed to a body shop for repairs.

Vehicle fire
Chelsea Police and the Chelsea Area Fire Authority responded to a report of a vehicle fire on the 200 Block of South Street on Aug. 23 at 10:30 a.m.

Upon the police department’s arrival, the fire had been extinguished by residents in the area.

“There did not appear to be any foul play involved and the cause of the fire appeared to be mechanical,” according to the report.

Bad check written
Chelsea police responded to a report of a bad check that was written in excess of $2,600 on Aug. 23 at 8:30 a.m.

The call came from a business in the 700 Block of West Industrial after the recipient had been unsuccessful in contacting the person who issued it, a 39-year-old Fenton man.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Suspect from 2009 larceny case arrested by Detroit Police
On Aug. 22 at 12:45 p.m., Detroit Police contacted Chelsea Police following the arrest of a male with a felony warrant.

The man was arrested on I-94 and Rawsonville Road, and arrangements were made to pick-up the 21-year-old Detroit man. He was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail, where he will be lodged pending a court hearing.

Money stolen from a purse
On Aug. 21 at 1:30 p.m. on the 600 Block of South Main Street, police were called for a report of larceny of money from a purse.

The suspect returned the money to the victim who decided not to seek criminal prosecution, so the case is closed.

Larceny from auto
Chelsea Police were called to the 700 Block of South Main Street on Aug. 19 at 2:46 p.m. for a complaint of a larceny from an auto.

This incident remains open pending further investigation, and no further details are available at this time, according to the police report.

3 cell phones stolen
On Aug. 14 at 11:10 a.m., Chelsea Police were called to the 300 Block of N. Main St. for a report of larceny of three cell phones.

“The complainant stated that he could confirm that the phones were delivered on dates ranging from June 11-July 5,” according to the police report. “The phones were unable to be located at the time of the complaint, and it was believed that they had been stolen.”

The incident remains under investigation and police are following up on leads in the case.

Road rage incident
Chelsea Police were called to the intersection of Old US-12 and South Main St. on Aug. 13, at 3:45 p.m. for a report of “assault/road rage,” according to police reports.

“The victim stated that she was traveling on E. Old US- 12 and when attempting to enter the turn lane, she was cut off by the suspect,” the report states.

An argument ensued according to the report, and the suspect eventually followed the victim into the parking lot.

The incident remains under investigation pending an interview with the suspect according to police.

Destruction of Property
The driver’s side mirror was knocked off the side of a car that was parked in a driveway on the 500 block of Chandler on Aug. 11.

Chelsea Police responded to a call the next day about the destruction of property that occurred sometime between 7 p.m. and midnight.

“The complainant stated that she had parked her vehicle in her driveway and when she returned to the vehicle, she noticed that the driver side mirror had been knocked off of the door and was lying on the ground,” according to the police report.

The case is closed pending further leads.

Missing Lawnmower
A lawnmower that was placed in the front yard of a Grant Street yard with a For Sale sign on it was allegedly stolen sometime between 4-6 p.m. on Aug. 8.

The theft took place on the 500 block of Grant Street and police were called to investigate.

“The victim stated that he had placed a lawn mower in his front yard for sale, then left his residence and when he returned he noticed that the lawn mower was missing from his yard,” according to the police report.

The victim said he thoroughly scoured the area and could not locate a note or any money indicating that someone had purchased the lawn mower, according to the report.

In addition, the lawn clippings catcher for the mower was also missing. The victim said it was last seen on the front porch.

Police canvassed the area and were told by a witness that a white male with brown hair loaded it into a white truck and drove away. If anyone has more information, please contact Chelsea Police.

Smash and Grab from a Car
(Note there was a story about this incident and the one following last week, so these are not new crimes.)

Sometime between 10-11:30 a.m. on Aug. 7, a thief smashed a passenger side window of a car parked on the 1100 block of South Main St. and stole a black IPod.

The victim said he’d parked his car at 10 a.m. and when he returned he found the passenger side window “had been smashed out” and the IPod was missing according to the report. Police are still investigating the incident.

Purse swiped from car
On Aug. 6, sometime between 4:30 and 6:45 p.m. near the 100 block of N. Main Street, a thief smashed a driver’s side front window and took a purse that had been sitting inside the car.

“The victim stated that she parked her vehicle near the 100 block of N. Main Street and when she returned to her vehicle, she noticed that her driver’s side front window had been broken out,” and the purse was gone, according to the police report.

This case, as well as the other smash and grab one, remain under active investigation by Chelsea Police.

Girl’s Mountain Bike Found
Chelsea Police report that on Aug. 3 at 9 p.m., they responded to the 100 Block of S. Main St., to a report of “found property.”

A girl’s mountain bike was apparently left abandoned in front of the residence, leaning on a light pole.

Police have been unable to locate the owner, but the bike was logged as found property at the police station and will be held for safekeeping, according to police reports.

Woman’s gold ring found
If you are missing a woman’s gold ring, which was lost about a year ago on the 200 Block of S. Main Street, stop by the Chelsea Police Station and claim it.

The ring was dropped off at the police station on Aug. 2 at 10:30 a.m.

According to the police report, the ring was found a year ago in a parking lot, and there were no details about why it took so long for the ring to fnd its way to police.

The ring is in found property and, like the bike, is being held by police for safekeeping.

Check written on closed business account
On Aug. 1 at 11:15 a.m., police were called to the 1100 Block of S. Main St. to investigate a complaint that a check was written on a closed bank account.

According to the police report, “an officer was requested to respond to the listed location for the report of a closed account check that was written at the business.”

The case remains “under active investigation,” but there are no further details.

Warrant arrest for 2011 shoplifting suspect

A 50-year old male was taken into custody on July 23 by Chelsea Police for a outstanding 2011 shoplifting warrant.

The man was picked up at North Territorial and Embury Road and transported to Washtenaw County Jail following a report from Sheriff’s Office that alerted local police to his location.

Felonious assault on South Main
Chelsea Police responded to a report that a man’s ex-wife had “just run him over” on the 1200 Block of South Main at 1 p.m. on July 24.

Police report that the male victim was complaining of a foreman injury, “which (the victim said) was the result of him jumping out of the way of the moving vehicle.”

According to the report, after allegedly trying to run her ex-husband over, the 41-year old Manchester Township female suspect fled the scene by car. Chelsea Police contacted her by phone.

The case remains open pending charges for domestic assault by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

MSP arrest female wanted on warrant
A 19-year-old female from Pinckney was arrested by Michigan State Police on July 26 at 2 a.m. on a warrant from Chelsea Police.

The female had failed to appear in court on “a minor in possession of alcohol charge” and is in the Washtenaw County Jail pending a court hearing.

Illegal dumping
Chelsea Police responded to a report of illegal dumping on the 1000 block of S. Main St. on July 17 at 8:26 a.m.

According to police reports, an employee arrived at work and found that the dumpster in the back of the business had been filled with a large amount of trash not belonging to the business. The dumping occurred the night before and the case remains open.

Suspended license
Chelsea Police stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on July 19 at noon at the corner of Sibley Road and West Industrial and discovered the driver was driving on a suspended license.

It was determined that the 34-year-old male driver was also wanted in Blackman Township for a traffic offense, police reported. He was taken into custody and turned over to the Blackman Township Department of Public Safety.

Charges of driving on a suspended driver’s license are pending.

Washer/dryer fire at apartment complex
Police and Chelsea firefighters responded to a 911 call for a washer/dryer fire at the 700 Block of West Middle St. on July 19 at 1 p.m.

The fire, not considered arson, was extinguished by firefighters from the Chelsea Area Fire Authority. However, while police investigated the incident, they discovered a 29-year-old Saline man, who was wanted on a warrant.

The male was arrested and transported to the Chelsea Police Department where he posted bond and was released pending his next court date.

Stolen license plate
Police were called to the 1500 block of Commerce Park Drive for a report of an abandoned/suspicious vehicle on July 20 at 9 a.m.

According to the police report, it was determined that the vehicle’s license plate was stolen, the vehicle was not.

The stolen plate was taken off of the vehicle and “listed for destruction,” the report states, and the vehicle was towed and impounded until it could be retrieved by the registered owner.

Gas stolen from a vehicle
Police responded to the 700 block of North Freer Road on a report of “larceny of gasoline from a vehicle” on July 21 at 9:51 p.m. No further information is available at this time.
