Check forgery reported
On Dec. 15 at about 9:30 a.m., police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street for a report of a check fraud/forgery.

The victim told police it was recently determined that three separate fraudulent checks had been made and forged and cashed.

According to the police report, these checks appeared to have been cashed at banks in Wayne County between Nov. 9-14.

The suspect has been identified as a 34-year-old Dearborn Heights woman.

The case remains open pending further investigation and review of the financial records from the suspects financial institution.

Ejection from hockey game leads to destruction of property
On Dec. 5 at about 10 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of Coliseum Drive for a malicious destruction of property complaint.

Upon arrival, police were told the suspect, a 23-year-old Jackson man, had been ejected from the hockey game for unsportsmanlike conduct.

According to the police report, the suspect took his team’s key to the locker room and went to get dressed. Upon leaving the locker room and exiting the facility, the suspect pulled the wall-mounted fire alarm, initiating a response by the Chelsea Fire Department.

Upon inspection of the locker room by the team and staff members, it was discovered that the suspect tore the sink off of the wall and broke the toilet in half as well as caused other damage in the locker room.

It was also discovered that money from the envelope in the locker room that was used to collect the team’s rink fees for the night, was also missing.

The case remains open pending interview of the suspect and submission of the case to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for criminal charges of malicious destruction of property and larceny from a building.

Driver flees site of crash
On Nov. 28 at about 5 p.m. in the 100 block of South Main Street, police responded to a report of a traffic crash after which it was determined the driver who caused the crash left the scene.

Police found both vehicles still at the scene, but despite a search of the area, the driver was not found.

Police got in contact with a 35-year-old Dearborn woman the following day, and she confirmed that she was driving the vehicle at the time.

The case will be submitted to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for failing to identify herself and leaving the scene of a traffic crash.

Vehicle stolen from Orchard Street recovered
On Nov. 24 at about noon, police took a report about a stolen vehicle from the 100 block of Orchard Street.

The victim told police she parked her father’s 2006 Chevrolet HHR in the 100 block of Orchard Street on Sunday, Nov. 19 around 11 p.m. and when she returned to retrieve it on Monday, Nov. 20 around 5 p.m., she noticed the vehicle was missing.

There was some initial confusion as to whether the victim’s sister may have picked up the vehicle, so the theft was not reported until Nov. 24.

According to the police report, in the early morning of Nov. 25, the vehicle was located by an officer doing routine patrol in the Park N Ride lot near M-52 and I-94. It was parked somewhat askew but appeared to be undamaged.

There were no signs of the ignition being tampered with or the steering column being damaged.

The vehicle was locked and the victim was notified where the vehicle was located.

Car that failed to stop at a red light later found crashed
On Nov. 26 at about 2:05 a.m., police observed a white GMC Acadia driving westbound on Old US-12 that failed to stop at a flashing red light.

The officer turned on emergency lights and sirens and followed the vehicle trying to get the driver to pull over. The vehicle turned north on Taylor Street and came to a stop.

According to the police report, the officer placed the vehicle spotlight on the driver of the vehicle and got a good look at the driver and radioed in the license plate of the vehicle.

Upon the officer exiting the vehicle and approaching the suspect vehicle, the driver took off and continued north on Taylor Street. The officer got into the patrol vehicle and initially gave chase, then terminated it after about 20 yards. The officer could still see the suspect vehicle’s tail lights ahead as it turned westbound on to Lincoln Street and then lost site of the vehicle.

The officer, along with the assistance of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, responded to an address in Dexter Township where the vehicle was registered. They attempted to make contact with the vehicle’s owner, but the occupants of the house failed to answer the door despite police seeing lights being shut off inside the home.

Shortly after leaving the owner’s residence, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle crashed and unoccupied in Dexter Township near where the owner of the vehicle resides.

The vehicle was towed and impounded by the county sheriff’s office and the case remains under investigation.

Possible identity theft reported
On Nov. 2 at 4:52 p.m. a possible identity theft was reported by a victim who lives in the 100 block of Village Place Drive.

The victim told police she’d been notified by Ally bank regarding a bank account that had been attempted to be opened in her name. The application was reportedly submitted on Sept. 20.

The victim told police she’d received a letter from the bank that several attempts to contact her via telephone were unsuccessful and so the account had been declined.

The victim told police that she had not applied for a bank account and feared someone had stolen her identity.

The case report information was provided to Ally Bank for further investigation on their part, and the case was closed pending any further investigative leads.

Closed bank account complaint
On Nov. 2 at 1:19 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of North Main Street for a report of a closed bank account complaint.

A check that the suspect, a 43-year-old Kalamazoo man, presented to the complainant had been returned back from the bank as being written on a closed account.

The complainant had submitted a certified letter to the suspect demanding repayment for the full amount and the suspect failed to comply.

The case will be investigated and submitted to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for authorization. 

Chelsea man jailed for outstanding misdemeanor warrants
On Oct. 24 at about 10:45 p.m., Chelsea police traveled to the Jackson County jail to pick up a 46-year-old Chelsea man who was wanted on two outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

The man had a warrant out for driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance.

He was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending arraignment on the charges.

License plate reported stolen
On Oct. 25 at 11:17 p.m. police were called to the 500 block of Coliseum Drive for the report of a license plate stolen from a motor vehicle.

The victim said he’d parked the vehicle about 8 p.m. and when he went back out  to it, he noticed it was missing.

At the time of the report, there were no suspects.

Vehicle stolen from South Main Street
On Oct. 23, at about 5:33 p.m., police were called to the 1500 block of South Main Street for a report of a stolen vehicle from a parking lot.

Video surveillance footage in the area and at the premises determined that the vehicle and been taken on Oct. 22 at about 2 a.m.

The vehicle tracking system was eventually activated and with coordination with the Detroit Police Department, the vehicle was recovered at a residence in the City of Detroit on Oct. 26.

The case remains open pending further investigation and processing of the vehicle for forensic evidence.

Possible rough treatment reported
On Oct. 22 at 12:50 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of Maywood Street for a report of rough treatment at a group home facility.

According to the police report, the complainant stated that she observed a worker put a helmet on one of her patients in a rough manner.

The worker told police that the helmet was partially broken and takes a lot of effort to get on. The potential victim is non-verbal but there was no apparent visual injuries at the time of the report.

The case report was submitted to adult protective service for further follow-up.

Question about handgun purchase
On Oct. 19 at about 10:20 a.m., a routine computer check of a gun purchased by a Chelsea resident reveled it had been entered into the system as stolen in 2015 in Orange County, Florida.

The handgun owner told police he had traded his pickup truck for the handgun. Police contacted authorities in Florida and they were advised that the firearm had been recovered and it was cancelled.

According to the police report, further follow-up will be done with the seller to try and track down how that subject came into possession of the handgun.

Police kept the firearm for safe keeping.

Money reported stolen from locked office
On. Oct. 18 at about 12:40 p.m., police were called to the 1500 block of Commerce Park Drive for a report of missing money.

The victim told police that he’d recently discovered that a large amount of cash was missing from his locked office and that it had been taken between Oct. 10-11.

He told police he keeps the money inside a locked box inside his office.

Once the money was discovered missing, he watched a video tape of his office and saw a suspect, a 40-year-old Jackson man, forcibly enter his office using a credit card type object to jimmy the door opened. He then observed the employee enter his office for approximately two minutes and then exit and secure the door.

The case will be submitted to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office for warrant review.

Ypsilanti man arrested for possible DUI
On Oct. 16 at about 9:11 p.m., police responded to the 20000 block of Gene Drive for a report of a man possibly passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle.

Upon arrival according to the police report, officers located the vehicle, a white Ford Fusion and the man who was conscious and breathing but was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or narcotics.

A 31-year-old Ypsilanti man was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police crime lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Male staff member found inside hotel room
On Oct. 14 at 4 a.m., police were called to the 1500 block of Commerce Park Drive by a guest staying at the hotel.

She told police that she and two friends were staying at the hotel and had spoken to a male staff member and become friendly with him. The victim told police her two friends left the room at approximately 4 a.m. to go out to their vehicle to smoke and she was awoken by a bump at the foot of her bed.

She told police when she opened her eyes, she saw the male employee had her wallet in his hands and that he said he was trying to put $100 in her wallet. An argument took place and the man left according to the police report.

The case remains open pending an interview of the suspect who is a 40-year-old Jackson man and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

License plate stolen
On Oct. 13 at about 5 p.m., police were called to the Park ‘n Ride at South Main and I-94 for a report of a stolen license plate.

The victim told police she parked her vehicle around 6:55 a.m. and when she returned to it at 4:45 p.m. she noticed that the license plate was missing.

There is no suspect information at the time of this report and nothing else inside the vehicle appeared to be disturbed, according to the police report.

Malicious destruction of property reported
On Oct. 13 at about 8:30 a.m., police were called to the 700 block of South Main Street for a report of malicious destruction of property.

The victim told police that an electrical cord on a Halloween decoration in his front yard had been cut during the night, and that it had been working the previous evening.

The case is closed pending any further leads.

Scooter reported stolen
A man arrived at the police station to report his scooter had been stolen from the library 20 minutes earlier.

He told police he’d parked it outside the library and when he came back outside, it was gone.

Police canvassed the area and located the scooter abandoned in the 100 block of Park Street just down from the library.

The case was closed and there are no suspects.

Unauthorized bridge card purchases alleged
On Sept. 28 at about 10:45 a.m., police were called to the 300 block South Street for a complaint that a former caretaker had made unauthorized purchases on a Michigan Bridge card, draining the account.

The former caretaker was contacted and he denied using the card for anything other than authorized purchases.

The case remains open pending request and review of video surveillance footage at the stores where the alleged unauthorized purchases were made.

Flag stolen from front porch on Washington Street
On Sept. 27 at about 8:10 p.m., police were called to the 200 block of Washington Street on a report of a flag stolen off the front porch.

The complainant told police that the flag went missing sometime between Sept. 26 and Sept. 27.

There is no further information on a suspect at the time of the report.

Driver stopped for traffic violation had suspended license

On Sept. 25 at about 3:30 p.m., police stopped a vehicle for a routine traffic violation and found the driver’s license was suspended.

A licensed driver was located to drive the vehicle and the case remains open pending review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Officer for a charge of driving on a suspended license.

Money stolen from wallet in car
On. Aug. 30 at 4:40 p.m., a victim reported that money had been stolen from his wallet in an unlocked car in the 700 block of North Freer Road.

The victim told police his unlocked vehicle was parked in a parking lot in the 700 block of North Freer Road and the incident happened sometime between 2 and 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 29.

There is no suspect information available.

Bike stolen from front porch of North East Street home
Police took a report from a victim on Aug. 30 at 12:55 p.m. regarding a bike that was stolen from the front porch of a home in the 100 block of North East Street.

The victim said the bicycle was unlocked and was taken between the evening of Aug. 29 and the morning of Aug. 30.

Shortly after making the report, an officer located the bike in the 100 block of Van Buren Street and confiscated the bicycle and returned it to the owner.

Catalytic converter stolen from vehicle
On Aug. 28 at 2 p.m., police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street for a report of a stolen catalytic converter from a vehicle.

The victim told police the theft was believed to have taken place between Aug.25-27.

The victim told police the vehicle was parked in the parking lot and when it was started, it was very loud. A mechanic discovered the catalytic converter had been cut off using a saw.

The victim said the vehicle was last driven on Aug. 25 and it was fine.

License plate stolen from vehicle
On Aug. 24 at about 4 p.m., police were called to the 20000 block of W Old US 12 for a report of a stolen license plate.

The victim told police that someone had unbolted the license plate from the vehicle and stolen it.

The victim told police it was an Indiana-issued plate and that the theft had occurred sometime between Aug. 22-24.

There are no suspects.

Bike stolen from West Middle Street front porch
On Aug. 24 at about 6:45 p.m., police were called to the 200 block of West Middle Street for a report of a bike stolen from a front porch.

The victim told police he had parked the bicycle on the front porch at around 8 p.m. on Aug. 23 and when he awoke at around 6:30 a.m. the next day, he noticed the bicycle missing.

The bicycle was described as a men’s red Mongoose bike with a black seat.

Door screen reported missing
On Aug. 12 at about 3 p.m., police were called to the 1300 block of Carston Lane for a report of a stolen door screen.

The victim said on Aug. 9, the screen in the sliding screen door was in place and he had no idea who might have taken it.

Livonia man arrested for suspicion of DUI
On Aug. 10 at about 12:45 a.m., police stopped a Chevy pickup in the 900 block of South Main Street following a “be on the lookout” alert for the vehicle.

Police saw the vehicle drive by and noticed that the pickup had damage and was missing a headlight.

According to the police report, “Immediately upon making contact with the driver he stated that he was going to jail.”

The driver had difficulty coordinating his movements and was having difficulty performing simple tasks such as locating his id card in his wallet, the police report states.

The driver of the pickup, a 31-year-old Livonia man, was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was transported to Chelsea Hospital for a routine blood draw to determine his blood alcohol level.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Gas stolen from vehicle
On Aug. 9 at about 2:30 p.m., a man told police that he suspected someone had siphoned gas from his vehicle, which was parked in the 500 block of West Middle Street

The victim told police that sometime during the night, an unknown suspect reportedly siphoned one quarter of a tank of gas out of his car. The victim told police he had a quarter of a tank of gas that evening and in the morning the tank was on empty.

The victim said he noticed a small wet spot near his vehicle.

No further details available at this time and the case was closed.

Car reported keyed on Van Buren Street
On Aug. 1, the owner of a car that had been parked at an apartment building in the 100 block of Van Buren Street went to the police station to report that her car had been keyed.

The victim told police she wasn’t sure when the damage happened, but believed that it had been done recently.

Money reported stolen from car
On Aug. 3 at about 4:30 p.m., police were called to the 400 block of Railroad Street for a report of money stolen from a vehicle.

The victim told police that the vehicle was parked in the garage and $30 had been taken from the driver’s side compartment between Aug. 2-3. Nothing else was reported taken from the vehicle.

Man arrested for misdemeanor warrant
On Aug. 4, at about 6:20 p.m., police were called to the 1400 block of North Freer Road for a report of a male on a bicycle going door to door and knocking on doors. The 46-year-old Ann Arbor man told police he was looking for a church to stay in because he was homeless.

A routine computer check determined he was wanted for a misdemeanor warrant out of Livingston County for trespassing and he was arrested and transported to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department for lodging.

Borrowed car reported stolen
On Aug. 6 at about 6:30 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of North Main Street for a report of a missing car.

The victim said he met the suspects previously at a party in Ypsilanti and they had stopped by to visit. One of them asked if she could borrow his car to go to the store to buy cigarettes and never returned with the vehicle.

After several hours, the victim contacted one of the suspects and she told him the vehicle had been stolen and to report it to the police.

The vehicle was entered into the computer system as being stolen and the case remains open pending further investigation.

Sticker Placed on Sign
On July 30 at about 7:30 p.m., police were called to the 200 block of Park Street for a report of damage to a sign.

Upon arrival, the officer was told that at some time during the last few days, someone placed a 3”x 5” sticker on a sign that was in the victim’s front yard. The sticker was removed from the sign.

Larceny from an Auto
On July 29 at about 9:20 a.m., police were called to the 400 block of Savannah Lane for a report of a larceny from a motor vehicle.

The victim told police that someone had stolen a stand-alone GPS unit from an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the driveway. Nothing else was reported taken.

The theft was believed to have occurred between July 28 at 9 p.m. and July 29 at 9 a.m.

Case is closed pending further leads.

Spare Tire Stolen from Tractor Trailer
On July 28 at 3:30 p.m., police were called to the 200 block of West North Street for a report of a stolen spare tire from a tractor trailer.

The victim told police that the spare tire was chained but unlocked and surveillance footage showed it was taken on July 25 at 9:20 p.m., but the theft was not discovered until the morning of July 26.

Police Assist with Pick Up of Man Wanted on Bench Warrant
On July 27, Chelsea Police picked up a 31-year-old Jackson man wanted on a misdemeanor bench warrant for failure to appear in court on a drunk driving case in Chelsea.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department contacted Chelsea police to pick up the man at an exit off I-94.

The man was transported to Washtenaw County Jail for holding until his court appearance.

Larceny of a Flag from Chestnut Drive
On July 27 at about 11 a.m., police took a report of a larceny of a flag from the 10 block of Chestnut Drive.

The victim told police that someone had stolen a flag and pole sometime between July 21-27.

There is no further information.

Lion statues stolen from front porch on McKinley Street
On July 18 at 8 a.m., police were called to the 400 block of McKinley Street for a report of a stolen lion statue.

The victim told police that one of two large lion statues had been stolen from their front porch between July 17-18. Then sometime between July 20-21, a second lion statue was taken.

These two items were reported to be very heavy and would have taken two people to move them.

There are no suspects at this time.

Larceny from Auto Reported on South Main Street
On July 15 at about 9:15 p.m., police were called to the 1100 block of South Main Street for a report of a larceny from auto complaint.

The victim told police that unknown suspect(s) had broken the front passenger side window of his vehicle and had stolen a backpack that was lying on the floorboard of the car. Inside the backpack was a laptop computer and other miscellaneous items.

The victim also told police that the center console had been ransacked but nothing appeared to be missing from the console area.

No other thefts have been reported in that area, and the case remains open pending further investigation.

Driver on Suspended License Caught Speeding
On July 1 at about 11:25 p.m. a 23-year-old Ypsilanti woman was caught speeding on radar in the 14000 block of Old US-12.

Police ran her identification and found she was driving on a suspended license and had several outstanding warrants for failing to pay traffic fines.

The warrants were from Westland and the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department. Her car was impounded and she was advised that the city could be seeking a complaint warrant for a misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended driver’s license.

The case remains open pending a prosecutor’s office review.

Stockbridge man caught writing bad checks
On June 24 at about 10:30 a.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for the report of a non-sufficient funds check complaint.

According to the police report, the complainant told police that an employee had written a check over the amount due to get cash back when he didn’t have the funds in his account to cover the check. This was the third time this 31-year-old Stockbridge man had written a bad check and other store employees had cashed the checks.

The case remains open pending further investigation and prosecutor’s office review.

Spare Tire Stolen
On June 23 at about 11 a.m., Chelsea Police were made aware of a larceny of a spare tire from the 1600 block of South Main Street.

The victim said he had his vehicle in for service from June 10-23 and when he got home and looked at the vehicle he noticed that the spare tire was gone. The victim told police he knew the tire was under the vehicle when he dropped it off.

The victim thought the tire had been stolen while it was parked for repair.

The case is closed pending further leads.

Credit Card Fraud Reported
On June 22, at about 1 p.m., police were made aware of a female resident who was the victim of two separate credit card frauds that had recently taken place.

The victim said she’d reviewed her recent bank activity and noticed that there were two unauthorized transactions to her bank card. One was for a pizza in Southfield and the second was a Paypal transaction for a new iphone., The woman told police that in addition, the unauthorized iphone was delivered to her home and she intercepted it before the thief could.

The case remains open pending further investigation into any potential suspects.

Fraud reported
On June 19, at about 4 p.m., police were notified by a resident in the 600 block of Flanders Street about a fraud complaint.

The victim told police he’d received a telephone call from a company regarding a possible virus infection of his home computer, and that he let the caller remotely access his computer to install virus protection for which he was charged.

On June 19, the victim received another call from this company and they told him that his software was not working properly and they had refunded his money, However, the company representative told him that they had inadvertently returned $3,199.00 instead of the $399.00, which was the amount originally charged.

The victim was told to go to Wal-Mart and purchase gift cards as a way to return the money. He did as directed, then later became suspicious and contacted police.

The case was turned over to an investigator but the suspects are believed to be in the India/Pakistan area. 

Illegal Entry Reported
On June 13 at about 10 p.m., police were called to the 1600 block of South Main Street for a report of an illegal entry complaint.

Upon arrival, police met with the complainant who said an employee, who is currently suspended from employment for suspicion of embezzling money, had entered the property and went in to an office that was not open to the public.

The suspect, a 45-year-old Dexter Township man, left the scene before police arrived but nothing appeared to have been taken from the office or property, according to the police report.

The case remains open pending completion of the report of the previously unreported embezzlement complaint and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for possible criminal charges.

47-Year-Old Dexter Woman Arrested for DUI
On June 11 at about 1 a.m., police observed a vehicle almost run a red light at the corner of Old US 12 and Freer Road.

The officer watched the vehicle turn northbound on Freer Road and began following it, observing the driver abruptly changing speed, weaving and crossing the center line.

Police stopped on the vehicle in the 700 block of North Freer Road, which was driven by a 47-year-old Dexter woman. She told police that she was texting and may have been distracted. When asked, she also admitted to having two glasses of wine earlier in the evening.

After being asked for her license and registration, the woman told police that she had nearly completed a 1-year suspension for a previous drunk driving conviction. She was asked to perform field sobriety tests and was given a breathalyzer test and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. She was taken to the hospital for a blood draw to determine her level of intoxication, booked, processed and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Charges of driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license will be sought in this case.

Bank Deposits Missing
On June 7 at about 2 p.m., the manager of a store reported that he had found two missing deposits from May 23-24 that should have been part of a deposit made by an employee.

The manager told police the employee said the checks had been deposited but were not in the account. The general manager contacted his bank and officials at the bank were conducting an investigation to determine if a deposit had been put in the deposit box.

The case remains open pending further investigation and follow-up with the bank by Chelsea police.

Assault Reported at Youth Baseball Game 
On June 5 at about 8 p.m., a man reported that he had been assaulted at the end of a youth baseball game in the 400 block of AD Mayer Drive.

According to the police report, the victim told police he was coaching his son’s team and because of the rules and the time of night, the umpires had ended the game. There was a disagreement between the team’s coaches and during this argument, the victim stated that the suspect, a 48-year-old Gregory man and coach of the other team, punched the victim in the chest with a closed fist.

The two were separated and the incident defused over time. The victim told police he did not want to press charges, but would like the league to review the suspect’s actions and behavior.

Property damage, theft reported
On June 2 at about 8:30 a.m., police were called to the intersection of Fieldstone Drive and Old US-12 for a report of property damage and theft of some pool chemicals.

The victim told police that someone had jumped the fence and had thrown some chairs into the pool area as well as stolen some pool chemicals that were in the storage area.

The case is closed pending further leads.

33-year-old Chelsea man arrested for DUI
On May 25 at about 8 p.m., police were called to the 20000 block of West Old US 12 for a report of an accident.

Officers arrived on scene and determined that the driver was uninjured and was the only person involved in the crash. Through a routine crash investigation and conversation with the driver, it was determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and suspected of being over the legal limit.

The driver, a 33-year-old Chelsea man was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and after processing was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

Case remains open pending laboratory analysis and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Cell phone stolen from room
On May 11 at about 6 p.m., police were called to the 800 block of West Middle Street for a report of a stolen cell phone.

The female victim told police that sometime between May 10 at 4:30 pm and May 11 at 6 a.m. someone entered her room and took her cell phone.

A thorough search of the area was conducted but the phone was unable to be found.  It is described as a black “flip phone.”

The case is closed pending any further leads.

Two fraud phone calls reported
Twice on May 10, police were called to the 1100 block of South Main Street, for reports of fraud calls.

The victims both told police they received phone calls from individuals representing themselves as employees of DTE Energy, according to the police report.

The victims said they were told that the business’ utility account was overdue and without payment utility service would be disconnected.

Both victims were advised to purchase prepaid credit cards for the overdue amount and call them back with the authorization code. The first victim did as instructed, then received a second call from the same individual stating that they had discovered another bill that was due.

He purchased a second prepaid credit card but then began to be concerned over the legitimacy of the calls, and called DTE directly to find he had been scammed.

In the second case, the victim purchased a two prepaid credit cards and called in the authorization codes. But when this victim got a third call about yet another overdue bill, he became suspicious and called the Chelsea Police Department, fearing that he had been scammed.

Police made contact with the callers and through the investigation determined that the calls originated from Costa Rica. The cases were closed with no possibility of recovering the lost funds.

Chelsea Police remind folks that utility companies will never call you demanding payment, especially using a prepaid credit card or gift cards as a means of payment.

Criminals have the ability to manipulate the caller ID to make it appear that the call is coming from a legitimate phone number when in fact it isn’t.

Child’s bike taken from Lincoln Street
On May 5 at about 9 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of Lincoln Street for a report of a larceny of a child’s bicycle.

The victim told police that on May 5 someone sole a youth-size Trek bicycle from the front porch, according to the police report.

No suspect information was available at the time of the report, and the case is closed pending further information on a suspect.

Bike stolen from East Summit Street
On May 5 at about 10 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of East Summit Street for a report of a stolen bike.

The victim told police the bike had been left on the front porch overnight and the next morning it was gone.

There was no suspect information available at the time of the report, and the case is closed pending any further information on a possible suspect in either of these cases involving stolen bicycles.

Owners are warned that even though the bicycle is on your property it is always advisable to secure your bicycle whenever possible.

Credit card fraud reported
On May 2 at about 5 p.m., a man arrived at the police department to report an unauthorized use of his credit card.

The victim told police he had been notified by his bank that an unknown suspect made several large purchases from the Internet using his credit/debit card on April 13-14.

The items were shipped to a location in Chicago and had been made on several websites. Although several purchases had gone through, others were caught and stopped, according to the police report.

The purchases totaled $5,000, and the case remains open pending further investigation.

31-year-old Chelsea man arrested on multiple charges
On April 26 at about 10:25 p.m., police responded to the 700 block of West Middle Street for a report of an adult male providing a teen female with “what appeared to be bottles of beer,” according to the police report.

Police located the male and female and upon making contact with the man, it “was apparent that he was intoxicated and bottles of beer were in plain sight,” according to the police report.

A computer check revealed the suspect, a 31-year-old Chelsea man, was wanted on several warrants out of area agencies. The charges included several charges for failing to appear, as well as a felony charge out of Ann Arbor Police Department for possession of heroin.

When police told the man he was under arrest and asked him to place the bottle of beer on the ground, he failed to comply and police were “forced to bring him into compliance with the threat of a Taser,” according to the police report.

When faced with that threat, the man complied and was transported to the Chelsea Police Department to be booked.

During booking, according to the police report, “the suspect became non-compliant and the suspect had to be forcibly brought back in to compliance. It was determined that due to the suspects actions and demeanor he would be transported directly to the Washtenaw County Jail for the warrants.”

The suspect was also found to be in possession of some green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Pending laboratory analysis charges may be sought for possession of marijuana, as well as resisting and obstructing an officer and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

53-year-old Chelsea woman arrested for DUI
On April 25 at 5:20 p.m., police responded to a 9-1-1 call to the 100 block of Wilkinson Street, for a driver operating a vehicle in a “hazardous and unsafe manner,” according to the police report.

The vehicle was located and police noted a strong odor of intoxicants emanating from it.

A 53-year-old Chelsea woman was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested following standard field sobriety tests, according to the police report.

She was transported to the Chelsea Hospital where a blood draw was completed to determine the level of intoxication at the time of arrest. A search of the vehicle yielded an empty bottle of vodka as well as a half full bottle of vodka as well as an open bottle of coca cola which had a strong odor of alcohol.

The suspect was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ypsi man held in county jail on Chelsea warrant
On April 19 at about 5:40 p.m., Chelsea police were notified by the Washtenaw County jail that a 40-year-old Ypsilanti man was housed there under arrest for a warrant out from Chelsea for domestic violence.

The man will be held there pending a hearing before the presiding judge.

Stamps, CD’s taken from vehicle
On April 7 at about 12:55 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Old Barn Circle and Old Manchester roads for a report of a larceny from a vehicle.

The victim told police he parked his vehicle near this intersection on April 6 around noon and went into a local business returning to his vehicle around 2 pm. Later in the day, he noticed that a roll of stamps that he had recently purchased as well as two CD’s missing from his vehicle.

There is no suspect information.

Hit and run reported by witness
On April 6, about 11:29 p.m., police responded to the 500 block of Coliseum Drive for a report of a hit and run.

Police received a 911 call from a witness, who had just observed a white pickup hit a parked vehicle in the parking lot and then leave the scene.

According to the police report, the witness followed the pickup to a local hotel in the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive. Officers responded to both locations and found the suspect vehicle at the hotel and questioned its driver, a 29-year-old from Stanwood, MI.

The suspect admitted to knowingly sideswiping the vehicle and leaving the scene. A citation was issued for failing to stop and report the crash.

The case remains open pending prosecutor’s review.

Lawn sign destroyed on East Summit Street
On March 27 at about 2:30 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of East Summit Street for a report of malicious destruction of property.

The victim told police someone damaged a yard sign that he had in the front yard of his house. He told police that the sign was removed from the ground and torn in half and discarded on the lawn.

This occurred sometime between March 24 and March 26.

There is no suspect information available at the time of the report.

Vehicle damaged on Harrison Street
On March 27, at about 1:15 p.m., police were called to the 200 block of Harrison Street for a report of a malicious destruction of property complaint.

The victim told police that someone had scratched or keyed her vehicle in the last two weeks.

She told police the damage was in a location where she did not typically look and that the damage could have happened at any time.

There was no suspect information available.

Mailbox and post reported missing on Railroad Street
On March 16, at about 8:16 p.m., police were called to the 400 block of Railroad Street for a report of a missing mailbox.

The victim told police that it went missing between the evening of March 15 and March 16.

The mailbox is described as metal and black in color and was on a wood post that is also missing.

There are no suspects at this time.

Chelsea PD transports woman to jail
On March 8 at about 1:20 p.m., Chelsea police were asked to pick-up a 34-year-old Brownstown Township woman from the Monroe County jail and transport her to the Washtenaw County jail.

The woman was wanted on a bench warrant for failing to appear on a felony closed account check charge.

Police respond to intoxicated driver report
On March 8 at about 9:30 p.m., police responded to an area broadcast by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department advising of a possible intoxicated/hazardous driver heading southbound on M-52 from North Territorial in a late model Ford Ranger pickup with a cap on the box of the truck.

According to the police report, police located and followed the vehicle. The officer observed the vehicle cross the fog line and then further down the road witnessed the driver fail to maintain his lane of traffic and veer into some parking spaces.

The vehicle was stopped and the officer noted that the driver, a 30-year-old Palmyra Michigan man, had what appeared to be watery and bloodshot eyes.

According to the police report, the driver admitted that he was intoxicated and stated that he knew he was going to jail because he was over the legal limit. The officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle to perform field sobriety tests. At the completion of the tests, the driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The man was transported to the Chelsea Hospital for a blood draw to determine his level of intoxication and was then transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Retail fraud on South Main Street
On Feb.19 at about 3 p.m. in the 1000 block of South Main Street, police were called for a report of retail fraud.

According to the police report, a store employee told police that a white male had entered the store and reportedly taken several cans of spray paint. The suspect denied this charge and stated that he had only taken the cap of a can to make sure that the color matched.

The officer asked the suspect, later identified to be a 33-year-old Stockbridge man, if he could check his vehicle and the suspect agreed.

Six cans of spray paint could be clearly visible sitting on the floorboard of the suspect vehicle. The officer also located a Dewalt Drill/Driver combo set still in part of the retail packaging located inside the vehicle.

The suspect was arrested for the retail fraud charge and was transported to the Chelsea Police Department for processing.

The case remains open pending warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Items stolen from residence
On Feb. 8, at about 11 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of Boulderstone Lane for a report of a larceny.

According to the police report, the victim told police she suspected a home healthcare worker had stolen several gift cards, cash and prepaid credit cards.

The victim stated that she believed the theft had occurred sometime on Feb. 8 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The case remains open pending further investigation.

Property damage on East Industrial reported
On Feb. 1 at about 2:30 p.m., police were called to the 600 block of East Industrial Drive for a report of property damage.

According to the police report, the victim told people that “sometime over the last week or ten days an unknown suspect(s) physically cut a hole into a chain link security fence.”

At the time of the report, there did not appear to be anything missing.

Police nab Texas man wanted on warrant
On Jan. 23 at about 1:50 p.m., Chelsea Police responded to the 100 block of South Street for a report of a man believed to have a felony warrant from Texas.

The 30-year-old Texas man was found sitting in his car and was arrested for a 3-count warrant for failing to appear on a charge of breaking and entering.

The Chelsea Police Department confirmed that Tom Green County Sheriff’s Department would extradite the man from Michigan.

He was taken to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending his extradition hearing.

Flag stolen from home on Flanders Street
On Jan. 25 at 10:26 a.m., a resident from the 600 block of Flanders Street arrived at the Chelsea Police Department to report a flag that was mounted on her porch was missing.

The victim said the theft took place between Jan. 21-22.

The case remains closed pending any further leads or suspect information.

GPS taken from vehicle on Wilkinson Street
On Jan. 14 at about 4 p.m., police responded to the 300 block of Wilkinson Street for a report of a larceny from auto complaint.

According to the police report, the victim told police she parked her vehicle in the 300 block of Wilkinson Street on Jan. 7 at around 2 p.m. and when she returned to her vehicle on Jan. 10 around 1:45 p.m., she noticed that her portable GPS  was missing.

There were no signs of forced entry and the case is closed pending any further leads.

Items stolen from truck on Commerce Park Drive
On Jan. 10 at about 5:20 p.m., police were told about a larceny from an auto complaint that took place in the 1600 block of Commerce Park Dr.

The victim told police that he parked his work truck on Jan. 4 in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive and when he returned to his vehicle the following morning, he noticed that a portable generator and a Dewalt demo hammer were missing.

The items were left unsecured in the bed of the pickup truck.

The victim said he had been out of the area when he noticed the missing items, and had not returned to Chelsea until recently.

The case is closed pending any further leads.

Flags stolen from home on Washington Street

On Jan. 5 at about 10:30 a.m., police were called to the 200 block of Washington Street for a report of a larceny from the front porch of a residence.

The victim told police that between 9 p.m. on Jan. 4 and 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 5, an unknown suspect or suspects stole two large flags that were displayed on the front of the homeowner’s house, according to the police report.

An area canvass was done and police were not able to get any further information about the suspects.

The case was closed pending any further evidence.

Chelsea man arrested for suspected DUI
On Jan. 1 at about 1 a.m. in the 1500 block of South Main Street, police saw a black SUV hit a curb while traveling westbound on Old US 12.

According to the police report, the officer followed the vehicle and observed it cross the double yellow line before stopping it in a parking lot in the 1500 block of South Main Street.

The 29-year-old Chelsea man told police he’d just left a New Year’s celebration and had had 3-4 drinks.

The driver performed standard field sobriety tests but refused to take a portable breath test and would not agree to a blood test to determine his alcohol level. The man was arrested and jailed for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and a search warrant was obtained for a sample of the driver’s blood.

Vehicles broken into
On Dec. 28 at about 2 p.m., police were called back to the station for a larceny from an auto complaint that took place between Dec. 22-27 while the vehicle was parked.

The vehicle’s owner told police that someone broke into the vehicle and took a few small items.

On Dec. 27 at about 12:45 p.m. in the 50 block of Butternut Court, police were called to investigate a larceny from an auto complaint.

The victim told police that the vehicle had been parked on Christmas Day. On Dec. 27, it was discovered that two vehicles had been broken into and a wallet, two ipods and other small items had been taken.

Police were also called to the 20 block of Butternut Court on Dec. 27 for another car break-in report that took place between Dec. 26-27. A purse and other miscellaneous items were taken.

The cases remain open pending further investigation.

Stolen vehicle found in Jackson County
On Dec. 27 at about 8:50 a.m. in the 600 block of South Main Street police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle.

The victim told police that between the evening of Dec. 22 and Dec. 26, the vehicle had been taken. The vehicle was eventually located via its GPS in Jackson County.

The case remains open pending warrant authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Grass Lake woman arrested for DUI
On Dec. 27 at about 8:20 a.m., police were called to the 200 Block of South Street for a medical assist involving an unresponsive female subject passed out in the driver’s seat of a car with a needle stuck in her arm.

Police spoke to the 24-year-old Grass Lake woman who had since regained consciousness and found suspected heroin along with other illicit prescription narcotics, according to the police report.

The woman was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and transported to the Chelsea Hospital for a blood draw then was turned over to her mother.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis of the blood and the suspected narcotics.

Building broken into on South Main Street
On Dec. 26 at about 7:25 p.m. police were called to the 700 block of South Main Street for a report of a possible breaking and entering.

Security personnel noticed that a building in the 700 block of South Main Street had been illegally entered and unknown suspect(s) had damaged multiple locations in the building and possibly taken items from the building.

However, what might have been taken couldn’t be determined at the time of the report.

The case remains under active investigation and is connected to the motor vehicle theft that was reported on Dec. 27.

Case remains open pending further investigation and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.

Sign destroyed
On Dec. 18 at about 9:30 a.m., police were called to the 100 block of Madison Street for a malicious destruction of property complaint.

The victim told police that a $300 sign was damaged between Dec. 11-18 with a baseball bat or club-type object and was beyond repair, according to the police report.

At the time of the report, there were no suspects.

19-year-old Chelsea man arrested on warrant
On Dec. 12 at about 12:15 p.m., police saw a pick-up truck disregard a stop sign and stopped the vehicle in the 300 block of Washington Street.

The driver, a 19-year-old Chelsea man, was wanted on a misdemeanor bench warrant out of the Michigan State Police Brighton Post and was also currently wanted on a felony charge from Mercer County, Pennsylvania for unlawful driving.

The Michigan State Police declined to pick up on their warrant, however, Mercer County said there would extradite on their warrant, according to the police report.

The subject was placed under arrest and was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he will be held pending an extradition hearing.

49-year-old Chelsea woman arrested for DUI
On Dec. 8 at about 3:55 p.m., police were called to the 1400 block of Carston Lane for a report of a suspicious vehicle that had been parked in the area for more than an hour and a half.

According to the police report, the officers located the vehicle but could not detect any movement from inside and it initially appeared to be unoccupied.

Then, a female started the car and began backing up toward the parked patrol vehicle. The officers began honking the horn in an attempt to get the 49-year-old Chelsea woman driver to stop and she stopped just short of hitting the patrol vehicle.

The driver was asked to produce her identification, which she had difficulty locating.

Although the officer was unable to detect any odor of alcohol, the driver appeared disoriented and impaired by some substance or suffering a medical condition, according to the police report.

The officer requested an ambulance and upon its arrival, the woman was escorted to the back for an evaluation. While she was inside the ambulance, police found a half full bottle of vodka partially under the driver seat.

During questioning, the woman told police that she had taken some prescription medication but was unable to tell police what kind it was. And, initially, the driver told police she had not consumed any alcohol but later said she’d had two drinks.

The woman was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

40-year-old Milan man arrested for DUI
On Dec. 6 at about 12:17 a.m., police were alerted to a vehicle driving in the area of northbound Main Street near Pierce Street on its rim, with apparent tire damage to one of the wheels.

The officers responded to the area and located a noticeable gouge in the roadway that appeared to have been caused by a tire rim. The officers followed the damage in the road for several blocks, eventually coming to a stop in the area of the 400 block of AD Mayer Drive.

The officers made contact with the vehicle and located the suspect vehicle along with the driver and a passenger.

When approached, the driver stated that he was having some trouble with his vehicle.

According to the police report, the driver was identified as a 40-year-old Milan man who was very cooperative but also very obviously intoxicated or under the influence.

After further investigation, the driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

2 Detroit men arrested

On Dec. 4 at about 4 a.m., Chelsea Police were called to the 1500 block of Commerce Park Dr. for a report of a suspicious vehicle.

The caller told people that a silver Ford Flex was parked in the parking lot for an extended period of time.

Police found the vehicle in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive where a BMW alarm was going off.

Police found two black men inside the vehicle who told police there were driving from Battle Creek to Detroit and had gotten tired so pulled off to get some sleep.

Inside the vehicle, police found burglary tools, GPS units, portable electronic devices, and clothing.

The Detroit men were arrested and taken to the police department for processing.

An inventory of the vehicle found multiple stolen items including basketball shoes, clothing and GPS units, which were determined to be from recently reported thefts in the Ann Arbor and Romulus areas.

The men were transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

The case remains open pending further investigation and warrant review and authorization by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office.

Contents of purse stolen
On Dec. 1 at about 1:05 p.m., police were called to the 1200 block of South Main Street for a report of a purse stolen from a shopping cart.

The store manager told police he had been alerted to the theft by a resident who saw a store employee take the purse out of a shopping cart and conceal it near the cart corral area.

The manager went to the area where the purse was reportedly located and observed it laying there with all of the zippers left open.

The suspect, a 33-year-old Chelsea man, admitted to removing money from the wallet. The man told police since he had found the purse, and thought he was entitled to take the money.

The employee returned the money, was terminated, and advised that he was no longer allowed at the store.

The case remains open pending review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.
