Publisher’s Message: Chelsea Update to have sister site with Monday launch of Dexter Update

Larry Doll feeds his wife, Stephanie, one of her favorite Girl Scout cookies Saturday. They were inside TCF Bank during the first day of the Girl Scouts' cookie booths located inside numerous local businesses on weekends though March 17.

Monday, I plan to launch a second Update site for the nice folks in the Dexter School District.

As some of you may know, during the last 13 years covering this area, Dexter was one of the many Western Washtenaw towns that I covered for “The Ann Arbor News,” Heritage Newspapers and “Ann Arbor.com.” And, since the relaunch of Chelsea Update in July, people in Dexter have been asking me to publish an Update site for them. They told me they loved what I was doing in Chelsea and wanted me to do the same thing in Dexter.

And, although I hadn’t originally planned to launch a second site this soon, many of Chelsea Update’s advertisers said they’d like to advertise in the Dexter area, too. So, as you know, it’s this advertising support and reader contributions that allow me to provide you with All the News that’s Fit to Post in Chelsea. If you like what you see each day, please consider sending a donation in any amount to Chelsea Update, 18829 Bush Road, Chelsea, MI 48118. And to all of you who have made a donation, I can’t begin to thank you enough.

I don’t want anyone in the Chelsea community to think that they will be shortchanged as I add Dexter Update to my tiny media empire. I have hand-picked a few people to help me when I have meeting conflicts or can’t be at two places at one time.

That said, I hope that you will take a minute to see what’s going on down the road in Dexter Village, and the townships of Webster, Scio and Dexter.

There will be a similar free newsletter delivered to your inbox about 1 p.m. daily with all the new headlines, so please sign up for that one, too. Look for the subscribe button at the top of the site.  And, just like Chelsea Update, there’s a Facebook page as well. I hope you’ll like it as well.

I’ve never quite understood why people in Chelsea and Dexter don’t do more stuff together. Each town has a unique and quaint downtown. Maybe readers of both Update sites can provide that link between the two communities and make them both stronger places to live, work, play and recreate.

And before I forget, a huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to request stories, send news tips and send information about upcoming events. I could not do this without all the community support I’m given each day.
