Week in review: Aug. 26-Sept. 1

Have you noticed the painting that's taking place on the Jiffy towers?

A week after the last animal, plant and ride left the Chelsea Community Fairgrounds, stories about this year’s event are still popular with readers.

I can’t thank everyone enough for all the kudos I’ve gotten about Chelsea Update’s coverage of what’s arguably the biggest week of the year for the Chelsea community.

In case you missed it, this week the School Board made the decision to eliminate the pay-to-participate fees for Middle School and High School athletics — at a time when many school districts across the county are voting to increase the pay-to-play fees. Plus, the Ben Vogel Foundation will pick-up the tab for “extras” needed by Chelsea students.

A close-up of the progress.

In addition, the City Council took the first official step to sell the old police building now that Chelsea’s men in blue have moved into their new home across the driveway from the city offices.

School starts this Tuesday, so while you are enjoying the last official long weekend of the summer, please set your alarm a little earlier on Sept. 4 and give yourself plenty of time to get to work on time. There will be school buses and crossing guards slowing and stopping traffic to make sure your children arrive at school safely and on time.

So, please drive slowly and carefully keeping an eye out for school children and make sure to stop for school buses with flashing red lights and crossing guards with signs in hand.

I also want to thank everyone who has sent emails with story ideas before and during fair week. I am still answering all the email I received during that time and plan to write all of them.

I also want to thank all the readers who have generously sent donations to Chelsea Update. Your contributions, combined with advertising, will keep this site going for many years to come. If you’d like to send a contribution, please make out a check in any amount to Chelsea Update and send it to Lisa Allmendinger, publisher, 18829 Bush Road, Chelsea, MI 48118.

Happy Labor Day, everyone.

Can you name Cosmo's breed ?
