Publisher’s Message: Many Thanks to Green Pastures

When I first moved here, I loved being outside. In fact, its acres of surrounding property is what convinced me to buy this house. It backs up to the woods and the house sits quite a distance from the road.

What I couldn’t predict was how many woodland creatures would also enjoy calling this property their year-round residence. Especially in the last five years or so, which has resulted in a major tick infestation.

I’d like to blame the deer, also affectionately known as Tick Taxis, because quite frankly, they are fearless and drive Buzz nuts. Plus, they’ve done a lot of other damage around this place. But there are also possible culprits — bunnies, turkey, ground hog, squirrel, chipmunk, skunk, raccoon, fox, coyote and I’m sure I’ve missed a few that could also have added to the problem.

And there have also been many opossum, which are supposed to be good tick exterminators. They did a pretty good job for the first 10 years, but not so much lately.

It got so bad that I hated to even walk on the grass. I’d come inside from mowing and more times than not find ticks crawling on me. Or worse, attached to me. Did I mention a hate ticks?

Buzz wasn’t spared, either. They’d invaded his dog yard, too. We’d walk into the show ring, I’d look down, and see tiny ticks crawling on his head. Not what you want to see at the start line.  Although he’s protected from tick diseases each month, I’m not.

So, at the end of last year, I finally had to do something. And that’s when I asked my veterinarian, Dr. Margaret Lane at Lane Animal Hospital for suggestions, she told me about locally- and family-owned business Green Pastures.

The business and its services came highly recommended – and now I know why. Garett Cooper gave me a free estimate, explained the services offered and voila. This is the first times in years that I’ve truly enjoyed going for walkabouts around the property and spending time outside with Buzz.

With 25 years in the lawn and landscape industry, Cooper, Green Pastures’ owner, personally performs the services and guarantees satisfaction.

And it wasn’t just the ticks. The mosquitoes (and stink bugs) were driving me batty as well. Not this year.

The monthly mosquito control application targets the adult mosquito population, treating the perimeter of your home, shrubs, trees and plants with a barrier spray. This will kill mosquitoes on contact, bonding to foliage where it acts as a mosquito repellent for weeks to come.

Green Pastures also offers a fertilizer service as well.

For more information, check out the company’s website: https://www.greenpastures.us/ or call 231-465-1335.

Both Buzz and I are thrilled with Green Pastures and it’s lots of fun to be able to enjoy our time “in the wild” again.
