Paint Chelsea Pink volunteers man a table at the after party at Chelsea Lanes.

There was some big news in Chelsea this week — trick or treat hours were changed from 4-6 p.m. to 5:30-7:30 p.m., single stream recycling began and the Chelsea Area Fire Authority and the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce held its first Paint Chelsea Pink event.

The change in the trick or treat hours was the result of an online petition that received more than 300 signatures requesting the change, which was approved unanimously by the City Council.

For those of you who ordered but have not received your large single stream recycling bins, Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority employees were out on Saturday delivering the bins. They arrived this week, but had to be assembled before they could be distributed. If you have ordered a bin and not received it, please call WWRA on Monday.

By all accounts, Chelsea’s first Paint Chelsea Pink event, which benefited breast cancer, was well attended on a perfect fall day. Those who participated had a great time. Further updates on the businesses who gave prizes and the amount of money raised will be forthcoming.

For more detailed accounts of all these stories, please check the most read story section on the bottom of the right of the home page.

In addition, a judge ordered a hearing to “show cause” as to why a recount of Sylvan Township’s 4.4 mil tax levy, which was approved by 7 votes, did not take place.

And on the sports front, the Chelsea varsity football team evened its overall record to 3-3 Friday night (3-1 in the league), with a 41-20 win over Ypsilanti Lincoln. The team hosts Tecumseh at home Friday night beginning at 7 p.m.

And I might sound like a broken record (does anyone still have records?) with this last update, but I cannot express in adequate words how much your support and kudos mean to me. Chelsea is an amazing community and every day someone shows me another reason why I love living here, being a part of it and writing Chelsea Update for all of you.

Go Bulldogs.
