‘Rec It’ Tuesdays Are Back This Summer

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Kristina Martin for the information in this story.)

Looking for creative new ways to stay active, connected, and entertained this summer?

Concerned about social distancing, group gatherings, and just staying safe and healthy?

We are happy to announce the 2021 edition of Rec It Tuesdays is returning this summer. Chelsea Area Friends for Recreation (CAFR) will partner with Chelsea District Library (CDL), Chelsea School District Community Education and Recreation Department (CSD), and the City of Chelsea Parks and Recreation Commission (Parks and Rec) to sponsor this summer’s activities.  All activities are free and open to the public and, of course, are set for Tuesday evenings.

This will be the third year of Rec It Tuesdays. Last year, these same organizations came together to sponsor Rec It Tuesday activities all summer long, mostly in a virtual format due to COVID-19 restrictions. This year we continue to be flexible. We’re excited to offer a series of events that will keep you safe, active, and having fun all summer long.

The lineup this summer will include alternating weeks of Rec It Tuesdays ( all compliant with Covid-19 best practices) and Trail Tuesdays.  For Trail Tuesdays, we encourage everyone to get outside and bike, walk, scoot or run a favorite trail.  There are great trails in and around Chelsea. We will share some of our favorites and hope that you will also post your favorite trails on our Facebook page.

Trail Tuesdays are scheduled for June 22, July 6, July 20, Aug. 3, and Aug. 17, though hitting the trails is a great idea every day, every season.

Rec It Tuesday activities include:

June 15: Self-led Scavenger Hunt at the Storybook Trail at Baker Woods sponsored by the Chelsea District Library. Don’t forget to snap a pic and share it on Instagram or Facebook. (@ChelseaDistrictLibrary AND @CAFRBOD, #RecItTuesdays) Kits are available at the Library starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 15, while supplies last. Please limit 2 kits per household.

June 29: Breathe Yoga will host a community session of yoga for all levels at Timbertown park starting at 6 p.m.

July 13: Chalk Art kits sponsored by the Chelsea District Library. Pick-up your kit from the Library while supplies last. Decorate the sidewalks around the library (concrete only, no brick pavers please!) or your own home. Don’t forget to snap a pic and share it on Instagram or Facebook. (@ChelseaDistrictLibrary AND @CAFRBOD, #RecItTuesdays, #CDLchalkart). Kits will be available for pickup during library open hours, beginning at 10 a.m., while supplies last.

July 27 : Play the game that’s all the rave. Pickleball matches sponsored by Chelsea Community Education, starts at 6 p.m. location TBD. Bring your own paddles, or we will have some to borrow.

Aug 10: Rec It Tuesday Extravaganza at Timbertown with numerous activities including, hover archery sponsored by the City of Chelsea, and kite making sponsored by Dangerous Architects. Starts at 6 p.m.

Who can participate?  Anyone looking for fun activities with family and friends.

What does it cost?  Nothing – all costs are borne by the community partners.

What’s better than free?  If you post a comment or a photo or your Rec it Tuesday participation on Chelsea Area Friends for Recreation Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/CAFRBOD/), you will be entered into a weekly drawing to win free loot like gift cards and merchandise from local businesses.

Want to help? Please contact Kristina Martin at [email protected] if you would like to volunteer or donate prizes. We love to give away gift cards to local Chelsea businesses.

CAFR President Kristina Martin said in a press release, “Join us this summer for a variety of fun filled recreational activities. We look forward to engaging everyone in our community, while ensuring we all stay safe and healthy.”
