Recap: Chelsea Girls Soccer 9-4-1 on Season

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Shawn Hayes for the information in this story.)

Chelsea Girls Soccer is 9-4-1 on the season and plays again today at home against Ypsilanti.

Livonia Stevenson Invitational
The varsity team along with JV call ups, Caitlin Dusenbury; Jordan Seitz and Olivia Olk all traveled to the Livonia Stevenson Invitational recently and lost the first match of the day, 5-0 to a strong Stevenson team.

Dearborn Edsel Ford
Next, the girls played Dearborn Edsel Ford, and ended up in a 0-0 tie.

The score is a bit deceiving as Chelsea controlled possession and had 26 shots in the game.

Chelsea then won the game against Divine Child to finish 3rd place in the tournament.

This was Chelsea’s best finish at the tournament since we started playing in it 4 years ago, coach Shawn Hayes said.

Dexter
The team then played Dexter in a make-up game and lost 2-1 to the No. 6 ranked Dexter.

Walled Lake Central
Saturday, May 6, the team played Walled Lake Central. Neither team scored in the first half.

About 25 minutes into the second half, Chelsea’s Sami Pagliarini intercepted the ball in midfield, drove forward and took a shot from 25 yards out that floated over the keeper’s hands into the upper corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Still fighting hard, Walled Lake created a chance or two which they were unable to convert.

With about 6 minutes left in the game, Olivia Olk found Delaney Krause out wide who cut the ball back to beat a player and hit a great shot just outside the area again into the upper corner of the net to secure the 2-0 win for the Bulldogs.

“This was a really nice for our team,” the coach said, adding, “We have made so much progress this season and continue to grow together – playing without starters or not, we are talented and have a deep bench and rely on each other to be ready and prepared to play at any time.”

Emily Griggs held the shut-out in net; her 8th of the season.
