Recent obituaries: Nancy Ellen Duncan, Darlene B. Rose

Nancy Ellen Duncan of Dexter, age 65, passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 at Michigan Medicine with her family at her side.

She was born May 5, 1953 in Chelsea, the daughter of Irwin George & Helen Agnes (Ulrich) Young.

Nancy was baptized at St. Mary Catholic Church and attended St. Mary School. She graduated from Chelsea High School in 1971. She had a grand champion steer at the Chelsea Fair. Nancy worked for Chrysler in Dexter, Adair Printing in Dexter, and Meijer on Jackson Road.

She always had a huge garden (both vegetables and flowers), and enjoyed her many pets. Nancy enjoyed canning, decorating, sewing, photography, and traveling. Nancy loved to fish from the dock. She was a “picker” who enjoyed auctions and flea markets. Most of all, Nancy loved being an imaginative grandma.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 27, 11 a.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea, with Rev. Stephen Bringardner officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea. The family will receive friends Wednesday 4-8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to her family to help with funeral expenses.


Darlene B. Rose of Dexter, age 80, died unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at the University of Michigan Hospital.

She was born Aug. 11, 1938 in Milan, Michigan, the daughter of Robert & Eunice (Sylvester) Murphy.

Darlene lived in Dexter all of her life. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1956. Darlene worked for Thetford Corp., retiring after 25 years.

She was a lifetime member of St. Andrew’s Church in Dexter. Darlene enjoyed going up North to their cottage, and traveling to the UP. Her hobbies included sewing, canning, cooking and baking.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ, Dexter, with Rev. Kendall Brown officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Dexter. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10-11 a.m.
