There will be a closed cell foam recycling event in Chelsea on Friday and Saturday, July 26-27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. behind Stivers Restaurant at 11 S. Fletcher Road, near Jackson Road and the I-94 interchange.
Volunteers will be collecting foam behind the restaurant on the east side of the large parking lot—filling a semi-trailer from Dart Industries. Collection time is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (note revised hours).
On Sunday, July 28, the group will be at the Dexter Mill collecting foam there as usual.
We will have large plastic bags (courtesy of Dart) and cardboard containers (courtesy of Heydlauff’s Appliances) in which to place the foam.
We collect clean foam cups and take-out food containers, food packaging (any color), egg cartons (any color), white packaging material, and coolers.
- We will not accept packing peanuts
- We will not accept Blue Dow Styrofoam™ insulation
- We will not accept pink Owens Corning foam insulation, or green foam insulation—they all contain fire retardant.
- We will not accept polyurethane foam—this foam bends and does not break.
- We will not accept thin, flexible sheeting.
- We will not accept hot tub or sauna covers.
After dropping off your foam, you could enjoy a good meal at Stivers. We want to thank the owners for letting us use their site.
We need volunteers to collect, bag, and break up the foam. If you have an hour, or two, we would appreciate the help.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call Bill or Glenna Jo Christen at (586) 801-6199.
