September is library sign-up month

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Virginia Krueger for the information in this story.)

Visit Chelsea District Library in September for American Library Association’s National Library Card Sign Up Month.

Be one of the first 200 patrons to sign up for your very first CDL library card in September and be entered for a chance to win a gift certificate ($50 for adults and $25 for youth) to a business of your choice in the CDL service area.

Children must be able to sign their name to be eligible for a library card.

A CDL library card is the most valuable card in your wallet. It unlocks a vast array of products and services.

Not only do you have access to a constantly updated collection of books, video games, movies, music and e-books, CDL provides so much more. Your library card gives access to nontraditional items like zoo and park passes, discounted theater tickets, mobile Wi-Fi hotspots, 3D printers, low vision equipment, and unusual items such as a ukulele from the CDL garage.

The library also opens the door to fun activities for all ages. Youth programs such as Babytime and MonkeyPlay offer parents and their little ones opportunities to learn important reading skills as well as a place to socialize.

Teens find a place to gather at That Thursday Thing and book clubs.

Programs for adults include educational workshops, musical programming, book clubs, and special events like the CDL Song Fest. Whether it is visiting the nationally touring Apron Strings: Ties to the Past exhibition this fall or attending the Not-So-Scary Storytime on the brand new Storybook Trail, the entire family will have fun and learn new things at the Chelsea District Library.

CDL also offers a card to active and retired military with special perks in gratitude for their services.

New this year is a convenient option for our township residents to sign up for library cards right at their local town hall. Just bring your driver’s license to your town hall on the following dates and times: Lyndon Township on Tuesday, Sep. 10 from 9 a.m.-noon; Sylvan Township on Wednesday, Sep. 11 from 9 a.m.-noon; Dexter Township on Thursday, Sep. 12 from 1-4:30 p.m.; and Lima Township on Monday, Sep. 16 from 9 a.m.-noon.
