Shop local farmers markets seven days a week this spring

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Kelly Wilson for the information in this story.)

Shop local every day of the week.

This link will show you when and where.

Of course in Chelsea you have two opportunities to head to the farmers market beginning May 1 in the Chelsea State Bank parking lot from 1-5 p.m. and on Saturdays in a new location this year — the Palmer Commons — from 8 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Farmers market season is upon us and Washtenaw County consumers are in luck. For folks interested in accessing local food all season long, Washtenaw County has 14 farmers markets to choose from.

One could shop at a local farmers market nearly every day of the week.

Shopping at a local farmers market is a great way to access fresh, local produce and items such as meat, eggs, bread, dairy products, coffee, prepared foods, crafts, soaps, and more.

Dollars spent at a local farmers market directly support a local business and positively impact the economic health and well-being of the surrounding community.

If every Michigander spent just $10 per week on local food nearly $1.86 billion dollars would be recirculated in our state’s economy. In addition to fresh, healthy food, many markets also host family friendly activities such as orchestra “zoos”, live music and cooking demonstrations. Almost all Washtenaw County markets also accept SNAP (Bridge Cards) and participate in the Double Up Food Bucks program.

Washtenaw County farmers markets include:
