Site hosting problems … again

So, it wasn’t the end of the world as we know it on Dec. 21, but perhaps it was the Grinch who stole Chelsea Update all day on Friday and crashed it.

Try as I might, I could not file new stories for Saturday, and as you saw, readers couldn’t get to the ones that were posted on Friday.

I thought the increasing slow-down was due to a photo problem, but it seems that this was not the culprit, rather the web hosting service that I’ve been using.

This is the second ‘strike’ against them in five months. So, once the site is up and running again, I’m hoping that readers will continue to be patient as Alan Scafuri, my wonderful IT guy, works through switching this site over to a new local server.

We hope the switchover, which will take place sometime during Christmas and New Year’s, is a smooth one, but, he’s warned me that there could be some glitches so, please, hang in there as we work toward speeding up the site.

There are some really good stories coming your way, which I will try to get in your hands this weekend. But how quickly new stories post will depend on the current hosting site, which tells Alan that it could take up to 72 hours to switch Chelsea Update to a non-shared server. Whatever that means.

My sincere apologies for these problems. But this situation is out of my control. I want to provide you with the news as much as you tell me you enjoy reading it.

While I’m at it, a huge thank you to everyone who called and emailed to tell me that the site was down on Friday. If I sounded frazzled, well, I was, but your concern was much appreciated.

And now, I’m going to go snuggle under a blanket with two dogs at my feet, wind howling outside the window, and hope that Saturday is a better day for Chelsea Update … and its publisher.
