Small fire quickly put out by firefighters at Chelsea High School Monday night

Chelsea firefighters were called to a small fire in the second floor mechanical room at Chelsea High School on Monday night, Jan. 14.

Chelsea Area Fire Authority Chief Jim Payeur said “combustibles were left too close to a furnace and it burned up some materials.”

He said the materials looked like foam rubber on plywood.

“The fire was nothing serious, but there was a lot of smoke, and we ventilated the building,” he said.

Eight firefighters were on the scene for about 45 minutes, he said.
