After earning a full-time spot on the Chelsea Police Department as one of the first female police officers, Sophie De Troyer has also completed the requirements to become one of the first female Paid on Call Chelsea Area Fire Authority firefighters.

In a ceremony on Tuesday morning, March 19, she was officially sworn-in by Chelsea Fire Chief Rob Arbini.

“The Chelsea Area Fire Authority is proud to announce the swearing in of Paid-on-Call (POC) Firefighter Sophie De Troyer,” Arbini told the Chelsea Area Fire Authority Board.

A Chelsea High School graduate, “she has a great commitment to serving her community,” Arbini said.

“We expect her to continue to learn about our operations within the fire department and flourish as a paid-on-call firefighter,” he said, calling De Troyer “a very intelligent and hard-working person.”

He said the fire authority is “happy to have her as part of our team.”

It’s expected that she’ll continue learning about the fire service on her days off from the Police Department.

Arbini told the board that in the fire houses he’s worked in previously, all new firefighters were sworn-in before starting official duty.

She was asked to repeat after Arbini the following:

CHELSEA AREA FIRE AUTHORITY OATH OF OFFICE

I, Sophie De Troyer, do solemnly swear that I will serve and safeguard

the residents and visitors of Chelsea Area Fire Authority.

That I will faithfully and professionally represent Chelsea Area Fire Authority

to the fullest of my abilities.

That I will always strive to provide service and protection with pride, respect, teamwork, and safety.

I take this obligation freely, and without reservation,

That I will remain dedicated and faithful to the discharge of my duties upon which I am about to enter

As a Chelsea Area Fire Authority

Paid-On-Call Firefighter.

“I’m excited to keep serving my community,” De Troyer said.
