The Chelsea Area Festivals and Events Committee thanked the sponsors of Sounds & Sights 2013 with an appreciation party on July 15 at The Common Grill.

More than 100 guests attended the event, which featured an assortment of entrées and desserts by Chef Craig Common and the wines of Terra d’Oro, according to a press release.

Chelsea resident and General Sales Manager of Trinchero Family Estates, Scott Stubbs, helped organize the event.

“We are fortunate to live in a great town, where the arts are embraced and supported by the community,” Stubbs said, adding, “My son started guitar lessons at the Chelsea Center of the Arts when he was six and I am proud to say that this year he plays in two bands performing at Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights. “

Stubbs thanked the sponsors for providing a “rare opportunity for emerging musicians is available here in Chelsea.”

Guest winemaker, Kim Voeltz, from the winery located in Amador County, Calif., guided a tasting of six wines.  She poured one white wine, a 2010 Pinot Grigio from Santa Barbara, and four reds from Amador County: a 2010 Barbera, a 2010 Sangiovese, a 2010 Petite Sirah, and a Zinfandel Port.

Also served was a limited edition 2010 Deaver Zinfandel, which is produced from 100-year-old vines.  “You’re not going to find very many 100-year-old vines in California, which is why the Terra d’Oro Deaver Zinfandel is so special,” Stubbs said, adding, “The amount of character that comes from a 100-year-old vine cannot be replicated and must be experienced.”

Stubbs and Voeltz charmed the guests with their knowledge of each wine as it was poured, and Voeltz helped draw raffle tickets for numerous prizes sponsored by Trinchero Family Estates.

The grand prize, a trip for two people to Terra d’Oro was won by the Chairman, President and CEO of Chelsea State Bank, John Mann, and his wife, Anne.

“We are thrilled to win this trip,” John Mann said in a press release, adding, “I never win these random drawings; I guess I have to stop saying that. “

He said he looks forward to “working out the trip details with Scott,” and thanked Trinchero for the prize, Craig Common for his connections, and everyone associated with the Chelsea Sounds and Sights Festival.

Last year’s grand prize winners,  John and Marianne Knox, returned to talk about their recent trip to the Napa Valley.  Knox described himself as a “blue-collar wine connoisseur” before the trip, but after the private wine tours provided by Trinchero Family Estates, he now considers himself to be “a dangerous blue-collar wine connoisseur.”

For those who have not tried them, Trinchero Family Estates wines including Terra d’Oro will be featured in the social and entertainment tent at the Sounds and Sights Festival this year.
