One of the popular features at the Saturday Chelsea Farmers Market are the musicians who entertain during the market. One particular duo stands out not only for their talent, but also because they are both in fifth grade.

Chloe Bagbey and Samantha Beiber have been friends since third grade. The South Meadows Elementary School students both play the violin and the ukulele, Bagbey also plays guitar, and they both sing.

During the summer, Market Manager Emily Griswold saw the twosome busking across the street from the market near the Purple Rose Theatre.

“They were good so I invited them to play at the market,” said Griswold.

The girls made their market debut in September and returned Oct.13, and they may be back again to play at the winter market, which runs from Saturday, Nov. 3, through the end of the year at the Washington Street Education Center.

“We’re talking about a name,” said Chloe Bagbey, referring to a name for the music duo, “but we haven’t decided on one yet.”

“We like to play different kinds of music but like fiddling best,” said Samantha Beiber in between giggles.

Both their moms stay in the vicinity while the girls perform.

“My favorite part is watching how brave these girls have been,” said Christine Bieber, Samantha’s mom, referring to their confidence while performing in front of a crowd.

What’s the key to getting the girls to practice?

“I’m their teacher,” said Bethany Bagbey, Chloe’s mom, who calls her business Bagbey Music Studio. “The key to getting them to practice is setting up a regular routine.”

With their music careers taking off, the girls told their moms that they are never having a lemonade stand again.
