South Meadows Elementary students participated in All Children Exercise Simultaneously (ACES) on May 8.

In its 15th year, ACES teaches children the important role that physical activity and proper nutrition play in healthy living, according to information about the program.

To kick-off ACES Day in Chelsea, Farm Bureau Insurance Agent Rick Eder presented South Meadows Elementary with a check for $250 toward health and wellness purchases for the school.

“This is a great event and Chelsea embraces this program,” Eder said in the press release adding, “This year they even incorporated safety aspects and invited Chelsea Police Department and Chelsea Area Fire Authority to participate.”

ACES is a one-day youth exercise program intended to highlight the importance of and need for youth fitness, and students from all 50 states and 50 countries participated.

This year, approximately 1,000 Michigan schools were expected to participate. ACES in Michigan is coordinated by the Michigan Fitness Foundation and sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance.

This is the 15th year of support from Farm Bureau Insurance which allows the Michigan Fitness Foundation to provide free materials to plan the event and to distribute educational newsletters and stickers for each of the participants.

ACES was founded by New Jersey physical educator Len Saunders in 1989. He wanted to encourage his students to be more physically active. Today, the program reaches millions worldwide. A number of National organizations support the effort including the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, National Recreation and Parks Association, and the National Association for Health and Fitness.
