The Chelsea Area Festivals and Events committee is busy raising funds for Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights

The free 10-week summer concert series kicks off June 6 and runs every Thursday (with the exception of July 4) through Aug. 15, and showcases a variety of music, dance, comedy, film, and family entertainment.

Now in its ninth season, Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights is one of Michigan’s most popular free open-air concert series, and is performed on 10 stages throughout the historic downtown.

These laid-back concerts are known for their variety of music from jazz to blue grass to country and indie rock.
“As with all nonprofit events, fundraising is an essential part of Sounds & Sights,” says event co-organizer Craig Common.

“We are trying to get the word out that each person’s gift really makes a difference, and allows us to put on a first class, free event,” he says.

There are several sponsor levels for business, individuals and families starting at $100.

This year, all sponsors who donate $100 and above, will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a trip for two to the Terra d’Oro Winery in Napa Valley, California sponsored by Trinchero Family Estates. Trinchero provides the wine for the Sounds & Sights Festival social tent.

“As an avid photographer, I was thrilled to win this trip into the heart of California’s beautiful wine country,” says John Knox winner of the 2012 trip.

The minimum sponsorship level to be entered in drawing is $100, and there may be blackout dates.

Kiwanis Club of Chelsea proudly sponsors Sounds & Sights because of its positive service to our town,” he says. “Not only do the events invite new visitors to come and explore Chelsea, it also is a good way for our community to work together and stay connected.”

“For me, winning the trip was the icing on the cake,” Knox says.

This year’s trip winner will be drawn at a special “Sponsors Wine Tasting” in July at The Common Grill.

The private event is for sponsors only and will feature Trinchero Napa Valley wines and an appetizer buffet prepared by Chef Common. Guests will also have a chance to meet the vintner from Terra d’Oro.

For those who wish to support Sounds & Sights in a different capacity, there is a “Wine & Brew” benefit event featuring Michigan food, wine and beers on Monday, April 29, from 6-9 p.m. at The Common Grill.

Tickets are $50 per person and are available at The Common Grill.
