SRSLY held its first Duct Tape Fashion Show, an idea inspired by a 6th-grade student on Feb. 21 and more than 40 students participated in the event held at Beach Middle School.

Salon Rushelle of Chelsea donated hair and make-up services to the student models, said Reiley Curren, SRSLY coalition director, at a steering committee meeting Wednesday morning, March 6.

She said the hair and make-up was both fun and very popular for the participants.

“The make-up box was very impressive,” she said, adding that youth from preschool to 8th grade took part.

Duct tape artist and retired Beach Middle School counselor Peter Warburton, displayed his duct tape artwork and emceed the event.

There were more than 200 people in attendance who cast ballots for the overall winners in each category.

In fact, because of the tremendous attendance, more ballots had to be printed, Curren said.

‘Adrian E.’ a 6th grade student won the art/sculpture category, while ‘Patricia S’ a 3rd-grade student won both the clothing and accessories categories.
