SRSLY is gearing up for its weekly free, outdoor summer movie series during Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights. Movies start at dusk on the lawn behind the clock tower in downtown Chelsea, following Sounds and Sights on Thursday nights.

The first movie is expected to take place on Thursday, June 13 with “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”

SRSLY Cinema attracts more than 300 youth and adults to every show, and this fun, family-friendly, substance-free event is considered one of the most popular initiatives of the SRSLY coalition, according to information from the group.

This summer marks the fifth year of SRSLY Cinema, made possible entirely by broad and generous community support. Local businesses, clubs, and families sponsor SRSLY Cinema with donations of $175-$1,000, which cover the cost of equipment and
licensing fees associated with the outdoor movies.

SRSLY Cinema is currently seeking sponsorships for this year’s event. Businesses, clubs, and families can sponsor a movie for $175, $350, or $700.

Sponsor logos are displayed on screen during previews before the movies every week, and all sponsors are listed on the coalition’s website here.

Interested sponsors can contact Jesse Kauffman, SRSLY Program Coordinator at 734-593-5283.

SRSLY Cinema also needs plenty of adult volunteers throughout the summer, to make sure everyone has fun in a safe way. In addition to sponsors and volunteers, SRSLY Cinema receives in-kind support from area businesses and organizations.

Chelsea High School students create public service announcements that are shown as previews before each movie. Edgar Norman Creative started the cinema event back in 2009, donating significant time to securing sponsorships,  coordinating tasks, and creating the preview reel shown before each movie.

SRSLY Cinema takes place Thursday nights, June 13 through Aug.15, with no movie on July 4 due to the holiday.

Youth run a popcorn and refreshments stand as a fundraiser, and moviegoers are asked to donate $1 to support the project.
SRSLY is a community coalition dedicated to the prevention of destructive behavior in Chelsea youth, which was formed in
2008.

Adults who are willing to chaperone at SRSLY Cinema should call Kauffman at 734-593-5283.
