A dozen Beach Middle School students became published authors recently after their comics were printed in the spring release of CPTN SRSLY and the Super Master Sentinels: The New Generation (Volume 5).

The anthology features stories created by each of the students as part of SRSLY’s comic book workshop held this past fall. Over the course of five weeks, the students learned skills from professional cartoonist and author of the CPTN SRSLY comics Jerzy Drozd.

Drozd guided students through the process of creating a comic from outlining the story to penciling, inking, and coloring them. The students also received coaching and feedback on their comics from professional cartoonists, storyboard artists, and editors via video chat.

On April 22, the student-authors signed copies of the printed anthology and passed them out to their peers during lunches at Beach. Copies of the book are also available at the Beach media center and Chelsea District Library.

The comic’s workshop and book printing were made possible by SRSLY, Chelsea School District, and Chelsea District Library with support from the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs.
