St. Louis Center (SLC) recently received a $4,227 grant from the Barden Family Fund at the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation in support of the Chelsea Meals on Wheels program.

The Barden Fund supports activities that carry out the Catholic ideals of service and social justice and efforts at building community.

The Meals on Wheels program provides a twofold benefit to the community.

First, it delivers quality meals to homebound seniors who might not otherwise receive a nutritious meal during the day. Second, it provides SLC residents who are intellectually and developmentally disabled with an opportunity for community engagement, teaching them social skills while giving back to the community.

SLC residents have been involved in the Meals on Wheels program since 2016, and this program provides them with a sense of purpose and dignity while also providing a service to the community.

According to Fr. Enzo Addari, St. Louis Center CEO, “For the residents who are dependent upon others every day of their lives, the importance of having an opportunity to do for others cannot be stressed enough.”

St. Louis Center is a residential facility providing a home for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The organization will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2020.
