Summer camps offer fun in the kitchen for grades 1-9

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Michelle Craig for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea Community Kitchen Kids Cooking series returns this summer for kids to learn about healthy cooking and have fun doing it.

All classes are taught by Judy Radant and are held at the Chelsea First United Methodist Church.

Adult and teen volunteers can get involved by being teacher aides.

Kids Cooking Camp, with a focus on “Starting the Day Right – Healthy Breakfasts You’ll Love”: Monday, July 30 – Friday, Aug. 3
Grades 1-3: 9 a.m. to noon
Grades 4-6: 1 to 4 p.m.

Kids in grades 1-3 and grades 4-6 are invited to enroll in a single session or take all five classes and earn a Junior Chef Award. Students will learn various cooking techniques and sample the dishes they have created at the end of each class.

The class fee is $25 per day and includes all material and food.

Summer Chef’s Club: Wednesday, Aug. 8 – Friday, Aug. 10
Grades 7-9: 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
This class offers more advanced skills for older kids. In this 3-day series students learn both the art and science of cooking.

The class will include a restaurant or farm field trip and they’ll be able to show off their new cooking skills by preparing a meal on the final day for their invited guests. This summer’s theme will be Italian cuisine.

The class fee is $150 and includes all materials and food costs.

Teacher Aid volunteers for all dates are also needed.
