The Sylvan Township Board met on Monday, April 7, and unanimously approved the American Legion Post 31 summer event, Heroes on the Water, which is scheduled to take place on Cavanaugh Lake on June 14.

In front of about two dozen residents, the board also unanimously approved an amended 2014-15 budget of $891,054.39, an increase from the originally approved budget of $795,963.27.

Sylvan Township officially announced a lawsuit settlement involving a sanitary sewer and water project. A press release stated that “Sylvan Township has settled a lawsuit stemming from legal advice it received from former Township Attorney William Fahley regarding the construction of sanitary sewer and water utilities within the township. The settlement will be funded by the insurance company for the firm that employed Fahey until 2008.”

According to the Sylvan Township Fund Report, as of March 31, approximately $2.3 million was deposited in a Trust and Agency account at Chelsea State Bank. The board, however, refused to confirm if this was the amount received in the lawsuit settlement and didn’t discuss what the money would be used for despite questions from residents.

In other news, the Chelsea Area Fire Authority (CAFA) has failed to reach a contract agreement with the firefighter’s union, and will enter into mediation to attempt to resolve the conflicts.

The board unanimously approved the appointment of John Budinger and Nancy Prindle to the Water and Sewer Board.
