For something fun, introducing “The Kay and Doug Show” at Gallery 100 at Silver Maples of Chelsea.

Empty walls in a gallery just don’t look right – what can we do? That was what the Silver Maples Art Committee discussed when they met in June. And then inspiration hit: we have talented artists right in-house.

Thus, “The Kay and Doug Show” was born.

Doug Race, a Silver Maples Villa Resident, picked up painting later in his life. The show features several of his landscapes, highlighting the nature of Michigan and of Yosemite National Park.

Kay Swank, who lives in the Maples Apartments, works in a variety of forms. Though best known around Silver Maples for her quilts, Kay’s work also includes a variety of painting techniques, including the Dutch pour and “string painting” methods that she started experimenting with during these pandemic days.

“The Kay and Doug Show” has something for everyone; and much of the work is for sale, so if you fall in love with a piece, you may be able to take it home.

Though, due to visitor restrictions, the show can only be viewed in person by Silver Maples staff and residents, we have a video tour you can see on our Facebook page. Contact Emily Meloche ([email protected]) if you’re interested in purchasing something you see in the pictures/video!

Both Kay and Doug always have projects going, and are happy to have a little more room in their homes so that they can keep creating more art.

And residents are thrilled to get the chance to wander through Gallery 100 and admire the talent of their friends and neighbors.
