This year, The Garden Mill is hosting a fall workshop series called “Autumn Harvest.”

The workshops will be held every Saturday in October at 11 a.m. and last one hour.

They are free, open to all, and intended to provide educational opportunities for gardeners and non-gardeners alike.

“Gardening doesn’t end just because the days are getting shorter and the nights cooler” says Garden Mill owner Jennifer Fairfield, “There are so many things to do in the autumn it’s a challenge to choose just four topics.”

On Saturday, Oct. 5, a guest speaker from Manchester’s Alber Orchard and Cider Mill will include an apple tasting and recipes.

On Saturday, Oct. 12, Fairfield will discuss how and when to plant spring blooming bulbs.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, the focus returns to enjoying all things edible. Guest speaker Trinh Pifer will share recipes for fall crops like kale, winter squash and Swiss chard.

The Autumn Harvest series will wrap up on Saturday, Oct. 26, with a discussion on putting the garden to bed for the winter; including tips for cutting back perennials, mulching, and how to properly clean and store your tools.

“We’re very excited to be offering this autumn series,” said Garden Mill store manager Maureen Tobin, who added, “Spring is all about anticipation and the excitement of new growth. But autumn is also a fabulous time to be in the garden.  The colors of autumn and the fresh produce on the table are just part of the enjoyment of the season.”
