This week’s CHS golf results

Bulldog logo The Chelsea Boys Golf Team got started with SEC play on Monday, April 22 at Hudson Mills Golf Course with a match against Ann Arbor Huron and Ann Arbor Skyline.

Both Huron and Skyline are very good teams, said Head Coach Joe Ewald.

Huron shot a 161, Skyline finished with a 162, and Chelsea was third with a 182.

“Our theme this year has been to get better every time we play, and we did just that, but it was still somewhat disappointing that we finally had some very nice weather to play golf and we were only one shot better than our first 9-hole outing,” Ewald said.

Scoring for the Bulldogs were Teddy Darr and Jonny Mangner with a pair of 44’s and Joe Slusser and Sean Lyons, each with a 47.

On Wednesday, April 24, the team hosted Tecumseh at Inverness Country Club, in cold, wet and snowy conditions.

“Nobody in their right mind would be out playing golf in those conditions, but we found a way to get it done,” Ewald said, but Chelsea won the match 178 to 204.

With the inclusion of  the JV scores we had eight players in the 40s, which is a promising indication of the depth we are developing, the coach said.

“We need them all to just get 4 to 5 shots better, and we will start competing with some good teams,” he said.

Leading the way for Chelsea was Darr with a 41, Slusser with a 43, Michael Purdy had a 46, and Lyons, Blake Salgat, and JJ Duncan all had 48’s.
