Thompson’s Pizza resubmitted preliminary site plans get Planning Commission OK

By Lisa Carolin

Thompson’s Pizza received approval for the resubmission of its preliminary site plan for a proposed 7,150 square foot restaurant with outdoor seating and parking at 20650 W. Old US-12, from the Chelsea Planning Commission at its Nov. 10 meeting via Zoom.

It was the second time the planning commission approved the preliminary site plan. It first did so in May of 2020, but because of delays due to Covid-19, the initial site plan approval expired.

At the Nov. 10 meeting, the planning commission approved the site plan contingent upon compliance with items including a street wall, screening of parking lots, site lighting, and signage.

The application was filed by A.R. Brouwer Company, LLC on behalf of KEMIKIDS/Thompson’s Pizza.

Chelsea Community Development Director Julia Upfal told the Planning Commission that deferred parking must meet Chelsea’s landscaping standards and that the applicant will include a landscaping plan for the deferred parking area in the final site plan review. She also said that deferred parking spaces are 9 feet, but the applicant must revise plans to accommodate 10-foot parking spaces.

  1. I wonder how late they will be permitted to stay open and whether they will have a liquor license. I live within earshot of that restaurant and I am concerned about the potential for noise.
