The play structure and the south pavilion at TimberTown Park will be closed on July 8 through the grand re-opening of the play structure on Aug. 17.
Preliminary site work for the TimberTown Reimagined project will start to prepare the area for the main BUILD week on Aug. 6 through 11.
Between Aug. 11 and 17, the “poured in placed” pathways will be installed and then cured before the ribbon cutting celebration on Aug. 17.
The north pavilion will close around Aug. 5. All other park areas – the Community Garden, volleyball courts, pickleball courts, the open green space, and most of the parking lot will remain accessible throughout the summer. Additional parking for TimberTown park use can be found at Veterans Park.
The TimberTown Reimagined project will see the original 1997 Clocktower Lookout Tower area repaired and renewed. New pieces of playground equipment will be installed to create a modern, safer, brighter, and more accessible playground. The toddler area, for 2-5 year-olds, will be completely replaced as it was found to be in very bad condition by the City’s 2022 audit by playground professionals.
Hundreds of volunteers of all abilities will be needed over the course of Build Week. Chuches, civic organizations and businesses are also encouraged to send a team.
Some of the art elements – painted squares and murals – that were created in 1997, will be available to the public on Tuesday, July 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The playstructure is the second part of a 5-prong project, which also includes:
- A new B2B Trailhead to be named in honor of Capt. Joel C. Gentz, Chelsa born and raised, who lost his life in a rescue mission while serving in the US Air Force.
- 6 pickleball courts (opened June 10)
- Infrastructure improvements including paved parking and lighting
- A renewed Pathway to Renewal, Chelsea mosaic created in 2003 as a symbol of grace, beauty and healing.
