Transition Town Chelsea hosts Zatkovich Pastures at potluck on Monday

Dan and Leanne Zatkovich of Zatkovich Pastures will be the featured speakers at the Transition Town Chelsea potluck dinner on Monday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chelsea Senior Center.

Zatkovich Pastures is a grass-based farm in Stockbridge that raises 100-percent grass-fed beef, pastured dinner chickens, and free-range eggs. The small business is also a vendor at the Saturday downtown farmers market.

Dan Zatkovich will give a free talk about the philosophical ideas that led him to start raising animals for meat, and the development of an existing farm into a business. The farm is modeled loosely around Joel Salatin’s Polyface Farm in Swope, Virginia, in that they adhere to principles of intensive rotational grazing management, symbiotic animal behavior relationships, and humane animal husbandry.

Organic methods are strictly used, and local sourcing of feed, supplies, and animals is used whenever possible.

The potluck portion of the evening begins at 6:30 p.m. and the talk will begin at about 7:15 p.m. Please bring a dish to pass and your own place settings.
