How can Chelsea District Library help you?

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Elaine Medrow for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea District Library facility is closed to the public to support the overall health and wellness of our community in the wake of COVID-19.

Based on CDC recommendations, all library programs and meetings are canceled through May 10 and the library building is closed to the public until further notice. However, knowing that your library provides important resources, we will begin offering limited services to our customers, effective March 18.

Here are the steps we are taking to support you as much as possible during our temporary building closure:

Keeping you current on accurate and up-to-date information and resources on COVID-19.

NEW TEMPORARY SERVICE. We are implementing curbside pickup from 2-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Requests for items located in the Chelsea District Library should be placed by noon to pick up the same day. Please allow at least 15 minutes notice for us to collect your requests.

Place items on hold online or call between 10 a.m.-2 p.m.: 734-475-8732 x.209 or x.219.

Have a question? A librarian will be on call via telephone and email from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Call 734-475-8732 x.219 or email [email protected].

Providing Facebook and web posts for activities and online resources to keep you and your family active and engaged.

Suspending fines on all overdue materials. Items returned after March 13 will not accrue fines.

Suspending sending any cardholders to collections agency until May 30.

Extending library card expiration dates. If your card expired/will expire between Jan. 1 and May 29, the card expiration will advance to May 30.

Keeping you connected through free WiFi access at these public locations, 24/7: Chelsea District Library property – including parking lot, Reading Garden, and the library lawn, and at Lima and Sylvan Township Halls.

In the interest of community health and safety returned items will be set aside for 72 hours before they are discharged from your account and placed back on our shelves.

Wifi hotspots are available from the library. Please return WiFi hotspots that have expired in the library drop box labeled MEDIA. The hotspots will be disabled after the sign out period has ended. We will disinfect these devices to make sure they are circulated in a timely manner to other patrons.

Providing digital collections and online resources such as HOOPLA and LIBBY from our website home page, www.chelseadistrictlibrary.org.

CDL will continue to provide updates on our website based upon the evolving recommendations of the CDC, Washtenaw County Health Department, and State of Michigan. Please check our COVID-19 website page for the latest information and our response to it.

We remain committed to our mission to engage, inspire, and equip our community during this difficult time.
