Chelsea Pharmacy and the American Red Cross are hosting a blood drive the first day of school, Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 10 a.m.-3:45 p.m.

The pharmacy is located at 1125 S. Main St, and all donors will receive $5 off a flu shot.

Blood donors help make a difference for many types of patients, including children with cancer and those who need ongoing treatment for sickle cell disease, according to a press release. Blood transfusions are crucial to both groups of individuals and play an important to help extend and save their lives.

While thousands of people answered the call for blood and platelet donations issued by the American Red Cross earlier this summer, an urgent need remains for platelets and types O negative, A negative and B negative blood.

As summer winds down and the hustle and bustle of families falling back into school and work routines begins, the Red Cross reminds eligible donors to keep blood and platelet donation on their to-do lists. The need is constant and only volunteer donors can fulfill that need for patients in our community.
