Although Chelsea dropped a close one, 10-9, to Ypsilanti Lincoln last Friday, and Head Coach Joe Koengeter said it was a back-and-forth game and Chelsea just came up short.

Lincoln was up 7-5 at halftime and the Bulldogs tied it up in the third quarter. They were tied 9-9 at the end of the fourth quarter, which meant overtime.

“We missed opportunities all night including missing the net three times on a wide open goal,” Koengeter said, adding, “There were a total of 25 penalties called during the game — 11 on Chelsea and 14 on Lincoln — and this was the big difference in the game as neither team could get into a good flow.

Almost every time Chelsea would score in the first half and take a lead, Koengeter said, Lincoln would win the face off and get a transition goal a few seconds later.

Lincoln had very few goals on the night that were in a set offense, he said.

Joey Olmsted scored four goals and had an assist.

“It is a tough loss for our kids on senior night, they fought tooth and nail all night and came up a little short,” he said, adding, “The penalty in overtime was the death of us.”
