Members of the Venture Crew 357 were out working hard Sunday morning in Lima Township performing a spring cleaning of the Lima Center Cemetery.

American Legion Post 31 Financial Officer Craig Maier said the crew members worked for about four hours Sunday, May 5 “cleaning, sprucing up and raking around the cemetery” before Memorial Day.

Post 31 members and other Chelsea area community volunteers spruce up some of the area cemeteries before they place flags on veterans’ graves in 13 area cemeteries in Chelsea and Sylvan, Lima, Lyndon, Dexter townships.

Historically, Post 31 members place the most flags on veterans’ grave throughout Oak Grove Cemetery the Thursday before Memorial Day at 4 p.m.

This year’s Memorial Day parade will take place at 10 a.m. downtown and proceed from Middle Street to Main Street to Park Street to East Street to Oak Grove Cemetery.

Once at the cemetery, there will be a ceremony and Ron Montagne of Chelsea is expected to be the keynote speaker. The ceremony will followed by a community-wide invitation to lunch at the American Legion post.
