Village Motor Sales donated $1,000 to the Chelsea District Schools’ athletic department this week.

“The contribution is most appreciated and will support our student athletes in a tremendous number of ways,” said Athletic Director Jeremy Barkey.

Tammy Burgess, internet sales manager for the family-owned company said Jim Stock, Village Motor Sales’ owner, has both a daughter, who attended the Chelsea Schools, and a niece, who plays basketball in the school system.

Burgess said this year there was so much interest in girls’ basketball that an additional middle school team was added.

The high school has both a girls JV and a varsity team and Barkey said that perhaps a freshman team could be added in the future.

The donation will go to the athletic department budget to help offset the additional girls basketball costs, Barkey said.

“So many girls are interested in basketball, and it’s great to see so many of them involved in sports,” Burgess said.

Stock also supports the St. Louis Center, she said, and has been part of the Chelsea community his whole life.

“Everyone will benefit from this generous donation,” Barkey said.
