Recently, members of the Washtenaw County Farm Bureau spearheaded a donation project to benefit St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital Emergency Department.

Members from Farm Bureau’s promotion and education committee (P&E) recently presented several large tote bags filled with card games, bubbles, coloring and activity books, crayons, small puzzles and basic clothing items to Donna Seely, RN of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Emergency Department manager.

Jaclyn Klein, the hospital’s marketing manager, helped coordinate the project with Farm Bureau P&E chair Lynda Horning.

“We see lots of children in the Emergency Department for sprains, broken bones, cuts, and other injuries,” Klein said.

“The donated items will help stock a “Kids Cart” that can distract and entertain children while they are getting stitches or waiting with a family member,” she said.

The clothing items will be added to a “Kid’s Closet” for children coming thru the emergency department who, for a variety of reasons, might need a new pair of pants, socks, or a shirt.

“We’re extremely grateful to our members for their generous response,” Horning said,” adding. “and also to the faith-based community of Our Savior Lutheran Chelsea and the Lambs of Our Savior Christian Preschool who read about our project and invited their families to contribute to our efforts.”
